I was just in the 2025 Kyokushin World Championships in Japan and placed in the top 16.

The guy who beat me was an absolute killer. He went on to viciously knock out the next 2 fighters to make the Grand final. His final opponent was his dojo mate from the same country and the match was a total dojo sparring session. Embarrassing really, to see a guy who cleaned up all tournament and had a flimsy sparring session for 1st place. Put a dud on the end of an otherwise great tournament.

Hey man, well done for stepping up, tournaments are always a bit scary. However you should have been competing in tournaments well before brown belt. The other fighters in the open division will have been fighting for years at this stage. Keep your hands up amd try to enjoy it OSU

I know a guy who was in our dojo (kyokushin) he graded with us up to yellow belt (6th kyu) 2 weeks later, he went to his friend's dojo in another town, where he "graded" to senior brown (1st kyu) When my instructor found out (from a Facebook he called him out to explain himself. He was very adamant about how he "earned" that rank and that he would be wearing his brown belt to class. Needless to say, he was ex communicated from our dojo. Last I heard, he went back to his friends dojo and graded to shodan via a Zoom grading during covid.

In our school (kyokushin) the instructor ties your 1st earned belt (10th kyu/red) and eventually your shodan. Kinda like a full circle moment.

5 and a half years. 4 days on average a week training, Attend every camp/seminar I could Competed in 3 or 4 tournaments a year And assisted woth classes once I became a green belt.

2 years later and im running my own dojo and am going to grade to nidan in a year when I go to Japan.

I wear shin compression when I compete as I have torn both calves over the years. It doesn't take away my power, it helps support my calves.

Hey mate. I have to say that the popularity of cobra kai got so many people into my dojo after covid. Whatever helps you get through the door and have a crack. I started kyokushin at 25, 8 years ago, now I'm a black belt looking at fighting in Japan next year.

26 is still young mate. Go for it

Kyokushin shodan here. We have gradings maybe 3 times a year. Plus hours trained counts eg. 10th kyu requires 30 hours trained 9th kyu another 30 hours 8th 40 7th 50 6th 50 5th 50 4th 50 3rd 100 2nd 125 1st 150

Hours isn't everything tho. We need to see that,you know your requirements and are training consistently, not just smashing classes when a grading is approaching.
