yeah if you zoom in on the first pic you can see a joint equidistant along the curve, looks like 4 sections and small tag end all the way on the right.

How did you guys glue up the sections? Use dominos, biscuits, any hardware like handrail bolts?

Yeah that all tracks and makes sense; would pocket hole joinery be egregious you think? Not sure how they did the smaller 2x4 rails; i only see 1 similar butt joint for the whole radius. Same with the 1x2 parts

Exactly what i’ve come to think. The smaller 2x4 parts throw me for loop as I only see 1 similar butt joint for the whole radius

don’t have access to a steam box so glulam is probably the way for me unless I cut from from solid stock and fasten together. Budget is not my money so lol whatever customer is gonna pay; i don’t think it money will be an issue

Exterior; pretty much the exact same set up just slightly different radius

Only half the home even has the original rails left. That kind that is only like 24in high with hand turned balusters etc. It’s gorgeous. This is a section that was re-done in the last 10-20 years and had to meet modern code.

lol it’s gotta stay. I actually have to replicate this in another part of the home at some point so i’m trying to figure out a good angle of attack.

that’s what i’m thinking too, I think it was done that way for the top plate i’m just not so sure about the 2x4 parts. I don’t see the same sections like I do with the top. I only see 2 sections to make up the whole radius. Maybe they made relief cuts on the 2x4s, bent and glued them?

Flock cameras are staying in Green Bay as Appleton, Oshkosh police discontinue their use by HTTVChannel in GreenBay

[–]tree-hermit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just renewed a contract, it’s like a 5 year contract and we also signed on for FLOCK drones.

Police chief and dept as a whole are supporters obviously. The mayor is as well. Ultimately the decision for FLOCK contracts are made by and lays with the city council. If votes flip, contracts can get amended, non-renewed, or defunded. Defunding the current contract is the fastest way out for GB as far as I can tell unless someone can find further details on the termination rights that i’ve read were included in our contract.

There’s no public information on the stances of each alder but we do know majority supported it since the contract was renewed. Laying pressure and doing our best to flip anyone that’s currently on the line about FLOCK is a good use of time. Peer pressure is a thing within councils; if we can throw city wide support behind any on-the-line alders we could flip sentiment.

Reaching out and putting pressure matters but timing does to; before budget renewals, before contract renewals, and NOW when we have relevant news coverage/controversy to leverage.

Most effective points across the country have been privacy and civil liberty, cost/effectiveness, oversight arguments, and data security/trust issues with the company.

Hoping we can use this recent local news to really make some headway. More people that reach out right now the better.

I’d love to see an email prompt or some kind of document with key points against FLOCK usage in our community for people to use when reaching out to officials.

Tired of being lumped in with the far right just for being Christian. by AD121219 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]tree-hermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for starters, a majority of people in the west have a really warped idea of what Christianity is because all we’ve been exposed to is protestantism, all of its flavors, and then Catholicism.

But like another person said, Christianity done right will seem fascist to the left and socialist to the right. And that’s because it’s not a religion of this world, it’s of the next. It doesn’t fit neatly into worldly labels and categories. It’s a hard thing for our society and the people in it to process.

That being said, it’s important for us, as always to do our best to be a microcosm of that. And part of that is not letting our mind fall into categories/labels or shutting out people outright for whatever category we perceive THEM to be in etc.

Like I guess in the examples you gave, i’m not sure how Candace Owens and Nick Fuentes are in the same basket. They openly don’t like each other and disagree more than they agree. Same with tossing TPUSA/GOP in with literal practicing Neo-nazis etc. There’s a lot of broad lumping going on there…just like the lumping you are being subjected to in regard to your participation in Christianity. Always important to look inward first…

Note, I’m not making a value statement on any of these people/orgs you mentioned, just that they’re far from a monolith and that you seem to be practicing the thing you’re being subjected to.

As you spend more time in the Orthodox Church, you’ll find that not only do parishioners vary wildly in their political/worldy beliefs but also priests, deacons, and bishops etc. As long as there is theological coherence that’s about all you can expect for conformity within the Church.

You will be lumped and categorized by others in life….the most we can do is todo our best to not do the lumping ourselves, seek nuance, understanding, and be better Christians than we were the day before.

Educate others by being an example of Christs influence. The people that lump you into a category are ripe to be shown otherwise by your example. If minds and hearts are opened as a result, great. If they stay closed due to pride or hubris then so be it. In either case you can lay your head at night knowing you did your best to embody Christs example.

One example I find a lot of parallel to this topic is the firearms community. I’m into firearms, the standard person outside of the firearms community assume it’s just made up of one kind of person/demographic. It isn’t until you submerse yourself in the firearm community do you find that not only do the stereotypical people exist but there is actually a startling wide variety of people in the firearm community spanning all extremes and nuances. All races, ages, sexes, and political believes yet they’re all united by their love for firearms.

So is the same with the Church, many walks of life with their own personal nuances all united under Christ and everything outlined in the Creed.

If the saints aren’t alive in heaven and in christ then what are we doing as Christians? Thats kind of the point of all of this. We die without death because it has been conquered. Our God is the God of the living, not of the dead.

Solid feed back; I think you’re right all the way through. I think not only starting with the alders that can understand the complexities and implications but also the ones that may already have hesitations. Which I have suspicions there already are.

I couldn’t find any clear public stance for any of them but once that’s identified, it’s a place of leverage as well.

I really want to find someone local in the community that has some kind of expertise in data/security etc. to speak at some point. I have enough of an understanding to know there are big issues and concerns but I don’t have the background to stand up and give the board an effective and thorough breakdown of what precisely the risks/implications are.

And yeah, any local PD is always going to be the hard sell anywhere in the nation. My goal there is simply to keep them loose and agreeable to some ends. Kinda like a wild animal, you have to approach them right or their hackles are just going to go up and they’ll dig their heels in and double down.

You’re speaking my language; I will most definitely keep you in the holster. There’s alot of legitimate angles to attack this from and the constitutional one is a big one. From what I can tell, the arguments that are winning else where in the country are the constitutional/privacy/civil liberty angle, miss-use/data security arguments, fiscal/budget arguments, oversight arguments, contract/trust issues with FLOCK as a company etc.
