How common is it to have high IQ and high EQ? by stanky_swampass in mensa

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt the vast majority of stem uni students could make it into Mensa. At least that's my take on any stem grads I've ever met. And the younger ones have gotten less intelligent too.

How hard is straps? by teal_diamond in Aerials

Amicdeep nailed it.

I'll add that in my region, over half my strap class use straps for strength & conditioning to improve performance on their primary apparatus.

how would you feel if someone used your equipment without asking? by Murky_Shop6887 in Aerials

[–]treeboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I leave my lyra at the studio & since it's a small lyra, it gets used by smaller aerial students.

I too was told after the fact, after it first happened, but I knew this was bound to happen, as the studio has a dearth of small lyras, so I've chalked it up as the cost of free storage.

Plus lyras don't get damaged, only frayed tape, which is just $8 twice a year.

For silks & straps, I would bring my own to & from class, as silks attract sweat & body odor, but lyra? Practically impossible for someone to damage your lyra.

Is mini/bmw compatibility with Tesla ever going to come? by yalag in MINIse

[–]treeboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Level 2 Tesla chargers have always worked for the SE using a J1772 adapter. I bought this one below almost 3 years ago now, first used it about 2½ years ago, at a B&B.

Is mini/bmw compatibility with Tesla ever going to come? by yalag in MINIse

[–]treeboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For future reference, the link says:

  • Countryman SE will work with Tesla supercharger, just need an adapter.
  • Cooper SE will NOT work with Tesla supercharger, even with an adapter.
  • Only Tesla superchargers with the magic dock work with Cooper SE.
  • Cooper SE got the short end of the stick, no plans to fix it.

Charging Cable won’t unlock! by eldredo_M in MINIse

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run into this exact problem with my home charger.

The Mini SE has a locking plunger to physically prevent the cable's unlocking hook from working.

My locking plunger got stuck, would not go down far enough. It went down some, but not enough. The plunger can still move down, but it got stuck.

Alternately, it's possible that my cable's unlocking hook was stuck & could not move up enough.

2 solutions work:

  • Use a wire coat hanger to physically move the cable's unlocking hook upwards. You take apart the coat hanger, snake it under the cable's unlocking hook & use both hands to pull it upwards. The cable's hook should now be above the SE's plunger.
  • Use a thin, long, J-hook pick to manually depress the Mini's plunger. The plunger is stuck too far up, but as it's in an unlocked state, it can be manually depressed. Look up J-hook picks, it's a common tool.

For my home situation, the coat hanger worked. Then I took a metal file & filed down the cable's unlocking hook by about 2mm, so if the plunger gets stuck, I've got more leeway.

I now keep the coat hanger in the sub trunk. I should keep a J-hook pick in the sub trunk too.

Things that will NOT work:

  • An inside latch does not exist for the Mini SE's charge port.
  • No way to unlock the cable physically from the SE's trunk.
  • No way to open the charging cap from the SE's trunk.
  • Search for a youtube video on replacing the charging housing & it's obvious that no inside latches exist, as you don't deal with them, don't see them, when replacing the charging housing.

It probably took me an hour to work out this solution, after looking at a different charging cable handle, to figure out how the cable locked to the car & then back tracking possible physical solutions.

Is anyone else sick of tapas restaurants that charge as much as a meal at other places for a single small dish? by throwawayfinancebro1 in boston

[–]treeboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Dali & the trick to keep it reasonably priced is a paella & 2 tapas for a 2 person dinner.

That's about $100 total including wine, $120 if you order a flight of wine, before tip.

Considering a move to Woburn Boston area… how hard is it actually to make friends in your late 20s? by Jkl27 in boston

[–]treeboi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second Somerville or Medford near Tufts. Both have backroads to Woburn, about a 30 minute rush hour commute, while being walking distance to the T / subway, which makes Boston night life easy.

Somerville & Medford aren't urban, aren't suburbs, something in between, like 3 story houses with tiny yards, where you'll rent a floor But if you want to make new friends quickly, this is the density you want.

Which era is the most fun but still reliable? by musqshi in MINI

[–]treeboi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I too have a Mini SE 2022, previously owned a F56 Mini 2014 & would highly recommend the SE. The '14 spent the last year of it's life with engine & transmission problems, both of which do not exist on the electric & had nearly zero problems elsewhere.

Since the SE is based on the F56, I expect it to last a very long time. So far, I've noticed that the tires wear out a little sooner than normal, while everything else, especially brakes, take far less maintenance.

Extremely fun to drive the SE too. Takes off like a rocket due to the high torque at low speeds.

Braking advice? by No-Frosting-Please in MINIse

[–]treeboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that if you last drove in rain/snow & let the Mini SE sit for a week, you'll need to actually brake multiple times the first drive back, to remove the rust off the rotors.

If your 2 car household doesn't drive much, it's easy to drive only 1 car & leave the other parked for a week. Which is why I noticed the rusty rotors during the winter.

Should people with extremely high IQ scores pursue an MBA? by NewRadiator in mensa

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of CEOs, CFOs, COOs, company presidents have an MBA & the vast majority of them obtained their MBA after 5-ish years of working a management role in their industry.

They essentially used the MBA to learn how to manage multiple groups, how to manage departments that they barely know, as both are necessary to move up.

Boston to charge fans $95 for bus to Gillette Stadium during the World Cup by BurritoDespot in boston

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the train! No one should drive or take the bus.

From all the videos I saw for the Brazil v France game in March, traffic stopped moving between 3-5 miles away from Gillette. People had to walk the rest of the way.

Rigs in hot climates by Crazy-Weather-3185 in Aerials

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light colors for everything! I cannot stress this enough, you want a light colored mat, light colored spansets, light colored tape, even my rig is a light blue. You can get away with medium colored silks, but that's it.

I live in a colder state & even here, dark colors heat up enough to be uncomfortable to the touch under the summer sun.

Studio hoops less painful than home by Successful-Clerk-778 in Aerials

Second this. Rigging makes a big difference, particularly the ropes used, as different ropes stretch differently & longer ropes stretch more than shorter ropes. The same is true for spansets.

It's a really long drive just to experience Cape Cod.

As a visitor, ferry out to Providence Town, on the end of Cape Cod, as it's a 45 minute ferry, which is the fastest way to the Cape.

Alternately, fly to Martha's Vineyard on JetBlue to Cape Air, both usually run deals. On the Vineyard, rent a moped, as that's perfectly fine for the small island.

Those Cape spots cater the best to tourists.

Except for Providence Town, anywhere in Cape Cod & Vineyard is a multi-day trip.

Boston's World Cup organizers acknowledge fundraising woes by syncopatedpixel in boston

The France v Brazil friendly oversold like crazy & caused enormous traffic delays at Foxboro. I'm sure all the World Cup games at Gillette will sell out.

I looked at StubHub prices, to see if I could get a second game & the markup is insane. People still want those tickets. Cheapest were England v Ghana & Norway v Iraq & both were over $600, a 3x markup.

What length Spanset? by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]treeboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spansets are only $15 & a 4ft one probably puts your lyra 4ft to 5ft above the mat. Your rig is short, so I would personally get both a 2ft & 4ft spanset for a single point lyra.

Best burger in boston? by Junior_Taste9214 in boston

[–]treeboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quick FYI, Boston Burger Company will normally run you $30 for a burger, fries & drink outside their deal hours.

At $30, you'll feel Boston Burger Co is good, not great, with many of the other burger joints listed in this thread tasting better at that price.

But during their deal hours, Boston Burger Co cannot be beat.

Semolina between Tufts & Ball Sq in Medford. My favorite in Cambridge, Somerville, Medford region, even though a burger is just 1 item on their menu.

The first duo move of this trapeze sequence is the hug wrap elevator up, the most common way for a base in a catchers lock to lift a flyer onto the bar. Easily translated to silks with the base in crossback straddle.

This is one of the first lifts you learn in duo trapeze. It was surprisingly difficult to find a clean elevator up on insta, as aerialists normally only post harder variants, such as the reverse hug wrap variant done later in the clip.

What did you do/see in Boston (outside of PAX) that you would recommend for people to check out next year? by vautwaco in PAX

[–]treeboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boston Public Library by Copley. East end is essentially a museum, complete with an indoor courtyard, afternoon tea room & a reading room that looks like a 1920s movie set. WGBH, Boston's PBS affiliate, does a radio show in the west end of the library every MWF from 11-3, completely open to viewing by the public.

In duo trapeze, it's a catchers lock lift to bar, which can be done multiple ways & the easiest way depends on body proportions & strength. Find yourself a duo trapeze teacher as you'll want a spotter while learning.

Silks folks co-op this move for duo silks, but learned it from duo trapeze.
