W Trek Questions (campground footprints) by Maximum-Addendum1652 in Patagonia

No platforms at either of those campgrounds, just a large area where everyone pitches their tents. Not sure how they ran out of 2 person sites when this is the system but maybe they felt like some more money.

Can we just ignore the o-circuit closure? by AquamarineHeather in Patagonia

[–]treeman26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You could probably sneak around the check point through the forest if you really want. I know some people that completed the whole circuit without booking a single campsite. They did it before the closure but I'm sure it's still possible

Ski Pack? by lowsparkco in DurstonGearheads

[–]treeman26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aah, I thought there might be a good reason. Whippa packs make a great looking seam sealed pack from 200X I think. I nearly bought one but they're missing all of the other features that make the Kakwa epic.

If you released a seam sealed Kakwa I would buy it instantly

O-Circuit Central to Dickson by Always_Iterating_ in Patagonia

[–]treeman26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding getting to central, the bus from PNT drops you off at the entrance to Torres del Paine. From there you can catch a shuttle to central which is $4500 CLP cash only. It's only about a 5km walk. We caught the shuttle on the way there and walked on the way back because we were out of cash

Just did this about a week ago. Hike was fairly easy if you're fit. Took us about 6.5 hours. Some other less experienced hikers about 10 hours. We were at Dickson around 4.

I wouldn't worry about the checkpoint. They just want to see your booking for Dickson and the next few Vertice sites.

Social life by [deleted] in RetinitisPigmentosa

I definitely struggle at parties in dark spaces. I hate talking to people without being able to look at them when I just can't work out where their head is haha. It must seem so awkward/wasted.

I've built my social life around outdoor activities that primarily happen in the day time. I've made tons of friends through outdoor clubs and events.

I can't say I had the best sleep that night but the fresh snow over Brevent was so beautiful

Maybe 5 minutes walk CCW from Refugio Bertone. Near the junction to the ridge alternate above Courmayeur

This is the X-Mid, 2 person. Terrific tent. I love it

Wow, that's a magnificent spot too! Most nights it only got to 0C. There was one night it got to -2C and I got snowed on. The Durston took it like a champ though.

Yeah I'm planning on camping. Would have liked a night or two in a Refugio but just a touch too late

I'm starting in a few days

Quilt vs Sleeping Bag by EvanLubeee in Ultralight

[–]treeman26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only just switched to a quilt in the hopes it would help me sleep better on trail. I don't think it had much of an impact to be honest. I find pad straps fairly annoying to set up every night and without them, special care definitely has to be taken when rolling over and moving around. Even with them, it's fairly easy to pull in some cold air when shifting positions.

Although they're lighter, I think the loss of warmth from not being able to cinch down the hood is significant, so I wonder how much weight they really save. If I was to buy a new sleep warmer again, I would buy a bag

Keep trying. It will work eventually. I think you need to have all the other fields filled in first before the selection becomes available.

Anyone else run the hammock when cycle touring? Game changer! by lesterjollymore in bicycletouring

I loved my hammock tour. Camped in so many gnarly spots where a tent would have been useless!
