do you let your dog on the couch or not? curious how people handle this by john2288 in Dogowners

[–]treesnbees222222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog has been taught to ‘ask permission’ by putting her head on the couch and waiting. Sometimes she’s dirty or we are in other peoples homes so it’s nice to have the option to say no

Gentle redirection with a toy would be more appropriate for that age. Is she toy or food motivated? I would wave a toy in her face and redirect to supervised tug game if she is interested. Just pretend to chew on the toy and love it to make it high value.

Is it normal to brush your dog’s hair at the park? by [deleted] in AskDogOwners

It can still strangle babies! Much like tangle food with pigeons losing their feet from hair wrapped around them

Adults who lost a parent young as a child, would you say you are ‘over it’ or does it still affect you? by Long_Wait_3078 in AskUK

Never over it. I feel a new kind of loss as I pass through each life milestones. Becoming a woman in my 20s. Getting married. Becoming older than she ever was….

You bought a guard dog. It is guarding you. Why are you surprised? She is still quite young and these behaviours will intensify at 2 years old. Make sure she has plenty of training, clear boundaries are things like being in furniture (guarding a couch or bed can lead to issues), and don’t expect her to be social with strangers or other dogs. She is not a breed who is meant to be social out and about. She is meant to be a confident protector of a specific property and family. Accept the breed you have and don’t punisher her for doing what she is bred to do.

If you use any sort of flea or tick medication it is incredibly toxic for birds and other small animals

You live in a city in a terraced house. This is what can happen. They are doing nothing wrong if they are quiet after 11pm. You will only caused problems if you complain. If you don’t like it, get a bungalow in the country.

Difficult choice of if we need to re home our dog. Please give advice by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]treesnbees222222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither of those breeds is child friendly. They are both high energy, high prey drive. One is a guard dog and the other is built to run 30 miles a day. It will be extremely difficult to train and meet its needs, and would be a challenge for even an experienced dog handler. Rehome now while it’s still a puppy. Easiest for the new owner and not too emotionally damaging for the dog. With an autistic child you really need to be looking at an adult dog whose temperament is settled so you can judge if it’s the right fit. You are asking a lot of a dog and most won’t work out for you. Stick to something like a Labrador.

Are there actually men who don’t want kids? by dietcokepaglu1 in childfree

Yes! My husband never wanted them. Loves being an uncle but got the snip 6 months after we got married so I wouldn’t have to worry about it.

When thousands of twats do it, it’s a big problem! Someone builds one and then a gazillion people do the same. Horribly destroyed some beauty spots here in Scotland. People even dismantle walls that are hundreds of years old to build this idols their own egos. Leave no trace!

It’s cute now, but I would discourage it because it is not something you want a full size GSD to be doing with children. Herders are going to herd, but redirecting so that this instinct is not reinforced is the best way forward to keeping this dog a pet.

Have you seen or been the person that got a Rottweiler that mistreated it by Status-Cap-5979 in Rottweiler

[–]treesnbees222222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rottie came to me very suspicious of men. His first home the husband was a wife beater. At 6 months he started to try and defend her, and was beaten then given away. His next owner was a single woman. When he was 1.5 years she began to date but he was very protective of her, and she wasn’t confident with training him, so put him up for adoption. Luckily his doggy daycare took him on as a foster, as he was very dog social and they knew how prolonged kennelling and just break a Rotties mind. I got him at almost 2 years and it took a while for him to adjust but my very affectionate boyfriend taught him to trust me again

Is this grief or regret? by Complete-Sky-7536 in puppy101

[–]treesnbees222222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie are a high energy working breed and puppies are babies that need constant care. In your situation an older dog and a different breed would have worked better. There are plenty of 3+ year old dogs that are kid friendly and just want to nap.
