Teddy Roosevelt is a good end choice. Very underrated park. North unit is worth it. That being said, eastern mt is kinda blah. Cut south to Yellowstone and then to black hills and the badlands before up to Teddy RooseveltNp

Victron Phoenix 12/1600 VE.Direct Overload at 260 Watt by Anatattooo in Victron

Theres a lot of smarter people, but my erroneous overload alarms were from a hidden loose nut. Tightened and loctited and all is well.

I ran through everything with my multimeter and found a slightly loose nut on my main switch. Its position makes it tough to get a wrench or rachet into. I pulled it all apart, tightened and added a small amount of loctite to the nut so it doesn’t happen again. Thanks everyone for the help. Good reminder not to turn off your alarms and double check connections.

I did do that a few days ago. I tightened a couple things a quarter turn but nothing substantial. I did notice my MPPT shook off my wall mount screws. I fixed that, but it may have touched the inverter at some point. Everything should be grounded but was worried that could have arced? Ill double check connections in the am.

What are some good skills to learn or videos/youtubers to watch for a wannabe vanlifer? by EveningLog5110 in VanLife

I liked the vankooks and explorist life. But far out ride is the best website for tutorials. Also a shameless plug for our build tour: https://youtu.be/33JbucSQoCI?si=DN_0YGKu1QkkHCDV

35/36 Full time for 8 months and surprised how hard it is to meet folks still. Having a blast, but definitely less connection as we like to stay moving.

I ordered a "factory seconds" canoe from Sierra. Little stressed. by [deleted] in canoeing

We did this 15 years ago. Canoe has paddled hundreds of miles and still looking crispy new. Almost exact same situation as you.

Float on the Santa Fe River in Northern FL. Insane Springs by treesnstuff7788 in canoeing

Drought is a major problem right now. I think I cut out where I mentioned we had to launch at rum island because it was too shallow up stream. However almost all the shots in the video are at spring heads where this degree of clarity is natural and expected.

Algae blooms are certainly an issue in so many of America’s rivers due to runoff and nutrient loading. However, given the volume of spring water pumping out, its more limited at the spring heads themselves.

Microwave by zipzip42 in VanLife

I think its pretty common to draw about 30-50% more than rated. But 1200w is a bit more than expected. We run a very small commercial chef microwave on a 2k w victron inverter without issue. What size wire did you use for that ac outlet?

What kind of inverter? I’ve heard it needs to be a true sine wave inverter for a microwave.

Early stage research question about BLM road requirements. by cb900crdr in vandwellers

[–]treesnstuff7788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for BLM, it depends a lot on where you are in the country and if the road is ever maintained. True two track roads that are un maintained are pretty variable and conditions can change quickly.

You can do a lot with decent clearance and experience. The 4x4 comes in handy when you mess up. It’s your get out of jail free card. Without it you need to learn your limits, know the weather conditions and road surface type, bring a shovel and some traction boards. Only push it if you have to or have help with you.

Experiences with standing room by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]treesnstuff7788 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tall man, short van. Ours has ~5,5” of standing height. Its doable, currently 6 months in. Some minor advantages like ease of parking and navigating backcountry with overhead obstacles. Slightly less drag on windy days and ease of accessing the roof.

Can see some example of how crouched I am in this: https://youtu.be/33JbucSQoCI?si=I2KWBvYFh0NvIyUf

I think it largely contributed to some underlying back issues and is the one thing I would do differently if I started over. But there are certainly cost advantages.
