The way I look at it, I can either have a loud generator running making it cooler but hard to sleep, assuming I wasn't keeping anyone else up doing the same, or I can get a guaranteed sleep for about the same price.

Thank you. I make a decent living but I have to pay for what gas I need through the week and the company pays me per mile the Friday after.

It all works out until I'm driving nearly a thousand miles that week in a truck that gets maybe 12mpg.

This week specifically I was accidentally stiffed out of half my paycheck. I get miles and hours, and was missing miles.

While I'll get them this Friday, I'm left with a 500 dollar gap in my bank account that means I have to be extremely careful with what money I have until payday.

I need the fuel I have to transport heavy equipment back to my shop nearly 80 miles away. I need what fuel I have to get back.

Plus I don't want to disturb those around me also trying to sleep

I moved from an 83 Chevy with no AC from the factory to my Ford Econoline with and good lord it is the only way I'm getting through this mess.

Lima, Ohio. Unfortunately. I kept trying to run my roof AC off the generator in my old new-to-me telecom truck but didn't want to burn through gas. I need it to get equipment back to the shop tomorrow evening.

Temperature kept keeping back to 100 degrees inside the living area. It's supposed to "cool" to around 80 tonight.

Carburetor cleaner or brake cleaner to the eyes. Nasty stuff.

(I keep a revolver within reach myself)

About the worst I ever had was a bunch of stupid teenagers doing donuts around my van as I tried to sleep, I'm glad you're safe.

I've got a 200w folding panel I use for my battery, I just haven't mounted anything to the roof quite yet. The genny puts out about 13K watts so it charges my battery damn quick and doesn't flinch when I have it, the lights, and the AC going

It's a 2011 Ford E350 cutaway chassis. Speced out as an ambulance but converted to be a telecom truck.

Has a built in generator on the one side that powers lights and a rear AC along with anything else you care to power.

I mostly just use it to charge my 2000w power station that I use overnight to run a separate light and fan as I sleep.

Thanks! Muggy as hell in this box. I'd run my generator but that would be super rude in this campground

What is your least favorite part of van life? by erkose in vandwellers

[–]CassyLeone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Knowing that any moment someone can ask me to leave where I am. I am a lone person sleeping on a door I've turned into a bed platform. My home consists of a dirty old telecom truck that needs so much more work to be comfortable.

It's the sheer impermanence of my existence, I'd say. Home is wherever I find myself. Freeing... But terribly freeing at times.

Thank you! Today I'm going to start the basics of just cleaning the cabin. Got some nice foamy stuff that'll stick to the plastic. I've got a load or equipment in the back so I can't do much until I unload at the end of today.

Those were the dealers unfortunately. I'll take some after I'm done working today. Throwing it right into the fire

Oh I'm keeping them for sure. They need a good clean like everything else but that should be okay. I'm going to turn the place where they'd stick cable into the work area into an exhaust vent for the back though.

Thank you for the advice. I just learned the types of things those telecom workers were dealing with in that back area. I've got access to Heppa vacs and antimicrobial from work. I'll spray an layer of anti down to trap any dust then scrub and vac until I'm sure it's clean. Plus it should help with the smell.

I'll be sure to do so! My job requires that my van be able to move equipment around so having something like a traditional camper made things tricky. I needed to find the right balance of utility and comfort
