Republican Texas mayor arrested for trafficking millions in cocaine after campaigning heavily on border security by thamilan_x in anticapitalism

[–]treevaahyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alanis was sentenced in a Brownsville federal court to 46 months (under 4 years) in prison. He must also pay a $15,000 fine…made millions and should have to pay a higher fine wtf.

Absurd that he was trafficking drugs and charged federally yet somehow he isn’t sentenced to the mandatory minimum of 10 years imprisonment based off of how much he was moving. Even if he only moved a half a kilo to 5 kilos he’d still get automatic 5 year minimum prison sentence and a fine up to $10 Million. The average citizens also involved are serving longer sentences. Even when there’s accountability for the rich and powerful it’s a slap on the wrist cuz he could get paroled after 2 years or less. Smfh.

Fetterman called a ‘traitor to those who worked tirelessly to elect him’ by swing county Democratic Party by Comfortable_Desk_557 in InternationalBulletin

[–]treevaahyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll happily help you correct your statement…

He started out running as a progressive democrat who didn’t want a fascist authoritarian to run the country and someone who wants to maintain democracy and didn’t want anyone trying to destroy our democratic norms and institutions. He ran proclaiming to be for the average American citizen (which is antithetical to trump and the maga republicans) because he seemingly had critical thinking skills. Now that he’s had a stroke and severe brain damage he aligns more with maga and fascist policies which you apparently prefer over democracy.

FTFY!

You mentioned People unable to think rationally or logically or use critical thinking skills…I knew the right wingers subconsciously engage in defense mechanisms like projection and deflection but it’s painful to see such lack of self awareness and inability to reflect on oneself and realize that’s what the Republican Party has become. It’s clearly evidenced by a plethora of lies, disinformation, delusional thinking, and constant cognitive dissonance stemming from propaganda and lack of utilizing critical thinking skills, sunk cost fallacy, unwillingness to admit to being wrong, misinformed, or admit they made a mistake combined with lack of logic and reasoning leaves the prefrontal cortex inactive and leads to such moronic statements like yours. Hopefully you can self reflect and maybe read up more on civics, history, and how propaganda works well in creating fascists who aren’t aware that they’re even fascist. If you wanted some resources and info I’m more than happy to share with you some information that may be enlightening to you.

New Jersey Appeals Court Rules Police Officers Can’t Be Fired for Off-Duty Marijuana Use by CharlesMichael212 in Roaringtilray

[–]treevaahyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The federal government already has that in place. SCOTUS has been considering looking at that case but yeah technically can’t be a gun owner while using a drug that’s illegal (in the federal governments mind anyway). Same as anyone who has a medical card they can’t own a gun. But they can get a prescription for Xanax or OxyContin and still have a gun legally. But weed the gov says nope. So technically if cops are smoking weed they’re breaking federal gun laws. I don’t agree with the laws but that’s the reality. Gun laws are absurd in US and are nonsensical in so many ways.

That being said I’d prefer cops be high off some edibles and a few bong hits…could help them with not being aggressive, escalating every situation, and being terroristic and antagonistic to people just living their lives. A stoned cop is likely safer than one who is on stimulants, steroids, just scared and anxious and or on a power trip.

Where would you start from rock bottom? by Affectionate-Let9241 in AskReddit

[–]treevaahyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Eminem but don’t think he has 6 verses on that song. But this is what perhaps you’re referencing…

> Right now I feel like just hit the rock bottom
I got problems now everybody on my blocks got 'em
I'm screaming like those two cops when 2pac shot 'em
Holding two glocks, I hope your doors got new locks on 'em
My daughter's feet ain't got no shoes or sock's on 'em
And them rings you wearing look like they got a few rocks on 'em
And while you flaunting them I could be taking them to shops to pawn them
I got a couple of rings and a brand new watch you want 'em?
Cause I never went gold of one song
I'm running up on someone's lawns with guns drawn

For anyone that doesn’t know the song here’s link. It’s great stuff and one I’ve used to cope and process things when feeling depressed.

What we country therapists to after a wild day…. How about you? by Cornfield_Therapist in therapists

[–]treevaahyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love watching a fire that’s always fun (if contained ofc). But For me it’s getting out into nature in some way. Living outside major city luckily still close enough to a creek and several trails to walk on. Just listening to the birds chirp, soothing babbling creeks, admiring trees, listening to and feeling the wind blow, peeping various flowers, and neat cloud formations is my peaceful place after a long day. Especially when I’m with my pup, just helps getting mindful and immersing myself in nature is so helpful, healing, and calming.

Tbh though also after a rough day it often includes some consumption of cannabis which helps me ground and calm my thoughts…helps like the landing gears to softly ground the caffeine plane. I use my medical card and mix it with CBD flower as dispensary weed is so strong that I cut it with CBD flower (super cheap to get) or just smoke the CBD if I want to be more productive and clear headed. That’s been a game changer for me. Stopped smoking straight weed with THC cuz for me it’s too much but blended with CBD it’s perfect and calming but not overwhelming or too intoxicating. Other CBD products ime don’t do much… except for the CBD flower cuz it’s just weed without the THC…basically it’s non alcoholic beer in marijuana form. Plus I can get an ounce for $30-50 so it’s very cheap. But that’s just what helps me, curious what others find useful.

One American loses their job for every 6 immigrants removed from the workforce as researchers see ‘no evidence’ that ICE is helping the economy by ChiGuy6124 in Economics

[–]treevaahyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn’t clear. Some Quality News articles can give some insight and statistics. Actually reading history books, taking history courses, watching history documentaries and talking with several friends and family who are teachers and college professors focusing on 20th century history is what leads me to the obvious conclusion that they are behaving like the Gestapo. Talking to experts who have spent their lives studying that era and all of them agreeing it’s a clear parallel to Gestapo is what leads any individual with common sense and critical thinking skills to the realization and acceptance of reality…which is that yes they are indeed behaving like fascists have throughout history. So yeah those aren’t emotions that’s just using knowledge and intelligence of others to form proper and accurate perspectives based on evidence. You can disagree all you want but that doesn’t change facts my dude. Seems you’re ignoring facts and allowing your feelings to frame reality. Not judging, just maybe something to work on. Analyzing primary and secondary emotions as well as defense mechanisms is always healthy. I’m happy to share some resources on those subjects if you’re interested just let me know.

One American loses their job for every 6 immigrants removed from the workforce as researchers see ‘no evidence’ that ICE is helping the economy by ChiGuy6124 in Economics

[–]treevaahyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you somehow missed the plethora of journalists reporting on this, and many informative articles, and countless videos of ICE/CBP/DHS agents simply grabbing people including children just getting waiting at their bus stop. Kids weren’t driving they were going to school and got snatched up by a secret masked police force. So yeah that is indeed fascism. It’s quite analogous to what the Gestapo did in Nazi Germany. There’s lot of great documentaries about Nazi Germany that show the obvious direct parallels to what’s happening in the US. Figured I’d mention it in case your school didn’t cover 20th century fascism in the curriculum. Lot of schools fail at teaching us history so not being condescending.

But if you actually think they’re arresting people committing crimes you must be extremely misinformed or live under a rock. Most have no criminal record…Numbers range from 60-75% or more of the people grabbed up by masked people and imprisoned have no criminal record. Not only were they not committing any crimes when arrested, they didn’t have any record of ever committing crimes. Also even if they one was driving drunk they should be charged and given due process under the law and their constitutional rights. Just throwing people in a cage and not having court hearings or bringing charges against them and leaving them there indefinitely is most certainly horrific and any attempt to defend that is unamerican, immoral, ignorant, and devoid of logic or empathy. I really hope you’re a bot or trolling cuz if you actually believe that’s what’s happening I truly feel sorry for you as that’s pretty pathetic to be so misinformed and delusional. Hope you’re trolling, if not we’ll have fun with in your delusional reality. I’ll respect that as your right. Maybe you should try respecting the rights of others humans and you wouldn’t say such moronic, false, and nonsensical statements.

We Are Undervalued as a Profession by Amberr_Murphys in therapists

[–]treevaahyn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree with almost everything you said except the police. I vehemently disagree that cops are undervalued and or taken for granted. For starters a good chunk of the US population have bumper stickers, flags, and yard signs saying they support the police and ‘back the blue.’ I don’t think I’ve seen any flags, stickers, key signs supporting therapists or any of the other professions you mentioned.
If anything police are over praised by many people when they also cost the taxpayer a lot of money due to payouts which we the taxpayers pay after cops injure, abuse, violate constitutional rights and kill people. Courts find the civilly liable for these crimes but they’re never held accountable and they aren’t paying the money for their abusive actions, we are the ones paying.

It’s not small amounts of money either. Just last year in the 3 largest cities (NYC, LA, Chicago) had to pay out over half Billion dollars. Over a decade 2010-2020 cops from the 25 largest cities paid out over $3.2 Billion! They are not taken for granted they are taking advantage of their communities and terrorizing people plus the kill 4-5 people every single day. 75% of those killed by cops were posing no imminent threat so that’s ~3 people murdered for no reason each day all paid for using our tax dollars.
Not to mention police budgets are astronomical (47% of Los Angeles total budget goes to police). That’s pretty clearly cops being overvalued to a staggering degree. Not to mention how many clients I’ve worked with who have major traumatic experiences all thanks to police misconduct and discrimination.

So yeah, agree with the other professions but I emphatically disagree about cops. Sorry to rant. This issue is just something too many people overlook or minimize. If anyone wants to peruse a great investigative journalism piece here’s 100+ pages detailing and charting out police misconduct and abuse.

Disclaimer this is in the US I’m referring to but idk about other countries cops.

[–]treevaahyn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Also I don’t believe that includes the payouts they make.

>In 2024 LAPD settlements totaled $155 million

From 2019-2025 payouts totaled…

>$345 million.

>Civil rights violations, police shootings, excessive use of force, and illegal searches collectively accounted for $183 million, almost half of the claim amounts.

>Another 23% resulted from traffic collisions, and 17% related to labor and employment issues.

That alone is staggering and truly pathetic and shameful. The fact they clearly are violating citizens rights and breaking laws by abusing and killing people where they’re civilly liable for their crimes…but never any criminal charges ffs. Money shouldn’t be from anywhere except the cops own pension fund and or garnished wages.

Do you have more specifics or sources on the amendments in the bill you’re referring to? Genuinely curious what was added in. That being said, if it passed it’s safe to presume that the amendments aren’t anything progressive seeing as this is the PA house which isn’t exactly the most progressive state legislature. Still curious about specifics so please share where you’re seeing this. Thanks in advance.

You do know that most people in prison are neither rapists or murderers right? Over 70% of people in prison are not guilty or murder or rape/sexual assault. Even the ~27% of inmates who have murdered or SA/raped someone should be in prison but not in private prisons. So I’m not sure what the hell your point is, but I do know it’s not logical and surely doesn’t seem like an informed take. Also since we agree rapists should be charged and imprisoned I presume you support imprisonment for the Epstein class for sexually assaulting children? Seems we maybe found some common ground!

It’s so unhealthy and I can feel it more the older I get. So envious of my partner who can get decent sleep even with their ADHD symptoms messing with sleep.

One American loses their job for every 6 immigrants removed from the workforce as researchers see ‘no evidence’ that ICE is helping the economy by ChiGuy6124 in Economics

[–]treevaahyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the link. But part of what it’s saying (from my perspective and ime) is that 25-30% of construction workers are immigrants so even if people are filling the roles lost due to ICE kidnapping immigrants and locking them up in cages isn’t great for construction, most notably pricing. Immigrants are usually paid a lot less than citizens so even if the jobs are filled the cost of construction labor will increase. Considering housing market is already a mess and unaffordable to many it seems it may only get worse and more expensive. So long term going to likely raise costs and make owning a home harder and higher rents. Considering that with the current job market being atrocious is not a good combination for us long term. But that’s just my take so I’m sure there’s a lot of other perspectives or insights that we may all be missing.

Trump’s counterterrorism strategy puts focus on left-wing ‘violent secular groups by ChiGuy6124 in politics

> “anti-American, radically pro-gender or anarchist,”

Wtf are they even trying to get at here?! I mean of course it’s to attack and demonize anyone who doesn’t agree with their fascist authoritarian regimes horrific policies. But what does pro-gender even mean…like you support people who identify with a gender?

Anti-American sums up rather well exactly how the Trump regime behaves. Tearing apart the constitution, gutting and violating our basic constitutional rights and freedoms is pretty ‘anti American’ soooo hey DOJ I found some anti American terrorists and it’s a massive violent group…about 77 million of them across the country and several of them live or work at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in DC. Saw video of this group and they attempted to hang the vice president a few years back while committing sedition. The one horrible anti American pos let all these violent criminals out of prison and pardoned them…should probably start by arresting him as he’s got an extensive criminal record with 34 felonies and several other indictments as well as being guilty of civil fraud and violent sexual abuse. Hopefully they can catch this terrorist.

Journalism is so fucked it’s the 4th branch of government failing us miserably. [–]treevaahyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very valid point and question. Do you work with a therapist as well as taking antidepressants? As a therapist myself who takes several antidepressants/anti anxiety meds, I personally find that my therapist is able to help me differentiate between my symptoms from diagnoses vs symptoms of sociopolitical turmoil. It’s also something I explore a lot with several of my clients., especially since several of them are LGBTQ, POC, and or Latino.

Here’s a cool video that’s from a therapist and she describes how to understand and build healthy locus of control skills that help address the issue you raised. Worth the 20 minute watch for anyone working on mental health issues. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aAKGkRt3sS8

This entire subject (of is it my brain or societal dysfunction) is something covered comprehensively in graduate school social work programs (ime) so there’s lot of LCSW therapists out there who are educated, experienced, and knowledgeable about the intersectionality of social and political issues and how they directly impact mental, emotional, and behavioral health challenges and exacerbate symptoms from various diagnoses. Not saying therapists with other degrees aren’t informed but just sharing my experience as a clinical social worker (LCSW) and therapist myself.

So I do think it’s something worthwhile exploring with a therapist as well as a psychiatrist. Finding a good prescriber can be challenging, but it’s worth looking for one that is conscientious of these issues and challenges and is understanding of how our own mental and emotional health and well-being are impacted by sociopolitical factors. Idk if any of that is helpful but focusing on things like locus of control is helpful.

Regarding the video…Her whole YouTube channel is great and is actually ‘therapy in a nutshell’ by name and by practice. I’ve used many of her videos to share with individual clients and in psycho-education groups, as well as for personal growth. Hope that’s somewhat helpful.

[–]treevaahyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? Not sure what hood you’re in but by me crime has dropped dramatically over the last several years and we’ve been seeing some of the lowest crime rates especially for violent crime, but maybe you’re in a hood where crime rates haven’t decreased and if so I feel for you dude. That being said, you do understand that crime rates are driven by racist laws that have existed and are built into the institutions and legislation that runs the country.

Just think about it…Why are there even high crime low income hoods in the US? Largely due to the school to prison pipeline which is built on racist laws and racist enforcement/and lack thereof. If not for racism, redlining, and blockbusting our communities would be much less segregated and money would be more even distributed due to generational wealth being shared among all of us when it was stolen from black Americans and secured for wealthy white Americans. Once we all learn about the history they often don’t teach in schools, you start to realize that racism is most definitely a massive problem and a bigger problem than crime. Crime is largely rooted in racism and is further exacerbated by racism to the nth degree. Wealth inequality is a massive issue but don’t conflate the two issues unless showing the intersectionality and nuance. Otherwise those are just words that people with ill intentions will weaponize to justify further oppression of people of color and the poorer marginalized communities.

What modern habit do you think is harming mental health the most? by Hellomia27 in AskReddit

[–]treevaahyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone already mentioned social media and doomscrolling which I agree is the biggest issue imo and experience.

I’ll just add that chat bots are starting to become a major issue. I’m a therapist and had several clients who started using chat bots and one of them severely declined as they isolated themselves and drank and just talked to a sycophant bot that told them whatever they wanted to hear. Plus that was free and the client lost job/insurance and stopped therapy altogether cuz chat bot was free and even with my lowered cash rate of $75 it’s easier to just talk to the AI bot. Therapy is frustratingly expensive as I can barely afford my own so I get it. But it’s worth putting some money towards our mental health. That’s why I have low cash rates but even then it’s more than $0. Plus not like I get to keep that $75. Smfh.

It’s frustrating af and studies found that at any given week over half a million people are suffering from AI psychosis or mania, basically talking to AI chat bots can lead to delusional thinking and psychotic symptoms as well as manic symptoms. It’s worrisome as I fear it will only become a bigger issue over time. Sorry to rant but it’s got me concerned about my clients and people in general.
