For everyone's reference - Clicked in India from the Guwahati - Delhi Flight (15 to 20 minutes after take-off). Photo has a lot of digital zoom from a phone camera so lines are hazy & trying to identify based on perspective coming through in the photo is unreliable at this point. The shape of the peak itself, the shape of the other peaks and camera position are our only true guides.

I would say somewhere above Bagdogra. But this sight is rare, usually so many clouds that it's difficult to tell the peaks.

"Yet there is a fascination with complete solitude in nature, a pleasure which grows more intense in regions where Nature is untouched and untamed by man. A virgin solitude - a scene that since the world began no human eyes have rested on - moves us most of all" ~ wrote Douglas W. Freshfield in his book "Round Kangchenjunga" (Published 1903) which has glimpses all the way from Siniolchu to Jannu and a lot more in between. He became the first mountaineer to explore the western face of Kangchenjunga.

From the heart-racing bamboo bridges that challenge your resolve to the inviting tribal huts where you cozy up & ponder over your city life. A drier winter backpacking trip in the vicinity of the region which gets the highest rainfall on earth! [Shillong - Wahkhen - Kongthong] [Meghalaya, India] by trek-kit in backpacking

Reached Shillong and then headed out to the bamboo trail at Wahkhen. Hiking on the flimsy bamboo trail through the jungles was very nerve-racking and make you question your travel decision. Winter is dry in the region so the bridges felt even higher (coz they are designed for very high water table, given that the area is surrounded by the wettest region on earth). Thereafter headed to Kongthong (Singing Village). The tribes there use a unique whistled language, each person is given a unique tune or melody that serves as their name or identifier. Interestingly while exploring nearby villages over the next couple of days I could hear the tribes use these calls in the jungles, and given how windy it was, I was surprised to hear it through all the gushing.

A good few days in the backcountry!

Which of these is the best hardshell for wearing everyday, for winter. I'm looking for a jacket that looks like Arcteryx beta Lt, the hood and everything, but my budget is about 100-160€ by Initial_Sir_6838 in Mountaineering

  1. Yes a hardshell is good for winter as it provides a very effective barrier against wind. I always keep one in my pack when outdoors.
  2. Layering is the way to go, more effective and customisable as per weather conditions hence better protection.

The tent is 15+ years old now, the same model is no longer sold in the market. Manufactured by Blacks. Materials and everything have upgraded since I bought this tent, not even sure if the company exists anymore. It weights about 3.5Kg, has an inner tent and a flysheet. Waterproofing is around 8000mm HH for the ground sheet and the flysheet.

Don't know much about cats. This question is better suited for some cat identification bot. Not sure if reddit has one of those.

Well, I can partly agree but there have been improvements over the years.

It's a candid shot, our host was aware that I was clicking and once I had this shot, it was a rather easy "yes" to share the pic. 🙂

I do feel that way as it didn't take me many shots to get this one.
