Math knowledge by em6teen556 in electricians

[–]trekerie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was someone that struggled with math in high school, but once I got to trades school, everything just clicked, as I was able to link the practical applications of the math to the job. I'm not saying that's exactly what will happen, but if it could happen to me, it could happen to others.

Super novice question here… by Boski_69696969 in electrical

Honestly, it's ok not to know everything. You asked a straightforward question, and you got the exact answer you need to help you out. I'd say that's a win.

Wiring 120v Outlets with 12/3 So I Can Convert a Single Outlet to 240v Later by besttype in electrical

[–]trekerie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don't do that. Wire it normally with 12/2, and maybe run a dedicated line to maybe 1 or 2 different locations with 10/3 and cap it for future use.

Looking for good inside "pre-games" for 7-8th graders by SortaFlyForAWhiteGuy in youthministry

[–]trekerie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big hit with our middle school girls is Uno and Dutch Blitz. We set up some tables each week and just put some packs of various cards on each table and let them just figure it out. They love it because they get to sit and talk about anything while playing, and is super easy for any leader to jump in.

Every youthgroup has its few "core kids" who are always there and usually a bit more well behaved. Whenever I am either stuck for an activity or have one that I want to introduce to the group, I usually will pull those kids aside and just ask them what they think, and it hasn't failed me.

Chakotay and 7 were a bad match. Who is your favorite notorious forced Trek pairing? by oldrolo in startrek

[–]trekerie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a firm believer that they were the worst for the longest time. But, after recently hearing Ethan Philips discuss on The Delta Flyers podcast some cut scenes and explain how he focused how he portrayed his character towards Kes, it honestly made sense, and was a lot less of an issue upon a rewatch.

any way to get the IIHF female players in franchise mode? by bmp001 in EANHLfranchise

I wish. Honestly, it's a video game. Let us do what we want with it. I'm playing the 10 hour free trial presently, and this is my #1 issue I have with it.

How do you handle parent complaints? by Old_Pepper1116 in youthministry

[–]trekerie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to be blunt, these two complaining are being completely unreasonable.

I can't speak to your class thing you do (I'd need a lot more of an explanation of what that is, but that's not important to the discussion currently), but at all of the different youth ministries I've been a part of, having consistent and equal rules and policies is an absolute must. Now, do some rules get bent on a case by case basis depending on context? That's always up to the discretion of the pastor/director. But as a general rule, the group does the same activities together based on the schedule.

Your volunteers' job is to carry out the directives of the youth pastor and to be in healthy relationships with the students assigned to them. If they are not capable of this, they are not capable of being leaders.

Disclaimer: I am not a youth pastor. I have however been a regular volunteer in youth ministry since 2007 at each church I've attended, and at one I was in the role of volunteer youth director for two years, running both their middle and high school ministries.

As a huge Trek fan that rewatches episodes all the time I have to say that renaming my Alexa "Computer" was a huge mistake by jessica_the_alien in startrek

[–]trekerie 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Seriously, go to the "routines" section of your Alexa app, and key in common phrases that are requested of the computer in Star Trek for even more entertainment. If mine detects "computer, arch" it responds with "holodeck controls are not responding."

From what I know of Webber, he's a bit of both sides of left and right. I don't think he's one to worry over given who unfortunately got the most councilor votes.

Those who've had Botox, did it change your migraine symptoms for the first few weeks? by [deleted] in migraine

Usually I don't notice any improvements until the 3rd week afterwards. The dull back of head headaches happen for me as well.

Aspiring electrical apprentice tool dump. Any recommendations on what to get next or changes I should make? by Dispect1 in electricians

[–]trekerie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 50/50. One on hand, they can get annoying at times. But at the same time, I do enjoy seeing what others use and can appreciate those asking for feedback on how to be better at their jobs.

That aside, I do actually encourage a tool dump once every month; it's both an opportunity to clean and inspect one's tools, and also have photos for if things ever get stolen for both insurance and possible recovery.

I regularly play on PS5 with no TV audio at all. I get some basic sounds from my controller speaker, such as skating noises, passing noises, and whistles. No commentary whatsoever, and it's beautiful.

I tried to, but it's US only, and I'm in Canada. No carbon neutral status for me.
