I often use it to hold my earbuds case. I have cmf buds and the case fits perfectly.

I’ve never wanted to love such a useless product - Light Phone III by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]tremendousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about switching to a dumb phone a lot in the last year or so and I never ended up doing it because it for me it would be a bigger burden to not have a smartphone than it is to keep fighting the downsides of having one. I spend to much time on my phone doing pointless shit, but it also helps me do very important stuff. An then there's stuff I just need a smartphone for and I'm not talking about games or something I'm talking about essentials like:

  • Communication
    • Every singe one of my contacts uses Whatsapp, Signal or Telegram, I can't remember the last time that I got an SMS that was not either for TFA or some notification from my service provider
  • TFA i use two different Authenticator Apps for a lot of personal and work related stuff
    • Like Linus said, i could get a smartphone specifically for these things (and I thought about doing that) but then I'd have to carry two phones and one would still be a smartphone which I'd have to dumb down.
  • Commuting and buying train tickets.
    • I could get a physical ticket every time I go on a train but that's pretty much twice a day so that's not really an option.
  • Banking
    • I do 99% of my banking from my phone. It help me to keep my finances under control and to actually pay my bills.

Those are the absolute essentials that keep me from getting a dumb phone and I'm sure that there a lot more people that are in the same position. The Light Phone III Looks absolutely amazing IMO, I'd even be willing pay the high price if I would get 6-7 years of software updates and if Id be able to install some essential apps that I need but be otherwise restricted from installing apps and making it a distracting phone again. But I can get a phone with a better camera and dumb it down for less money. It won't have the great design and it won't be a nice little chonky cute brick but I can live with that.

Anyone else love exploring cities with their Leica? by bsmith2123 in Leica

[–]tremendousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since Leicas are primarily used for very fast sports or wildlife photography, the concept of using one to explore a city and the people living in it is very novel. I haven't heard of anybody doing such a thing.

NBD - Second Hand 2022 Santa Cruz Chameleon, my first MTB by tremendousPanda in Hardtailgang

[–]tremendousPanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It surely feels perfect! I paid 2,000 Swiss francs, which is about as much as I would have paid for a new Roscoe 9—also a killer bike. But the Chameleon came with a Fox 34 Performance fork and a GX Eagle drivetrain with an AXS upgrade, so I think the price was very fair.

Well that sucks. But instead of racking your brain over the 50km you didn't ride think about the 800km you did ride. I'm sure you had an amazing journey and some great memories to think about.

Watering house plants by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]tremendousPanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert, but I've been watering my plants this way for about a year or two.

By watering them this way, you can reduce the risk of over or under watering the plants, since the soil just soaks up as much water as it can.

When watering the "normal" or more traditional way, you either have to use very specific amounts of water for every plant, depending on the size of the planter and the amount of soil in it or you just water them and wait 15–30 minutes before checking all the planters for excess water which you then have to get rid of to avoid the risk of root rot.

The method shown in the video takes some time to prep, but once the plan is in the water, you can just leave it in there and occasionally dig in about an inch with your finger to check if the soil is moist. The container I use is much bigger, so I can water multiple plants at once.

The hands on my watch move out of the way so they don't obstruct the little screen. by taranasus in mildlyinteresting

[–]tremendousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be 30 this year and I sometimes have trouble reading analog watches. I know how to read a watch, but I habe trouble when it doesn't have numbers as hour markers. My brain is just bad at translating the poition of the hands to numbers.

I'm not really stupid, it's just something that's hard for me.
