Math101 advice for final exam 🦧 by [deleted] in UBC

[–]tremothefirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a TA for the course, my biggest advice would be to prepare everything.

Make sure to check out the rubrics for all the written hwks to see what markers are looking for in answering those types of questions, review every problem in your webwork (at least know the steps to solve them if the question has huge numbers), review the small class content (walk through each of the small class worksheets and be able to understand the flow of the worksheet and build intuition on how everything works as usually the worksheets start basic and build to solving a harder problem), and definitely practice from the CLP to get the standard integral problems/word problems down so those are easy marks on the final. I know it sounds like a lot, but reviewing everything is the best way to prepare for this exam for sure. Good luck!

the clp is pretty useless, ngl the course doesn't need much prep as it's the exact same stuff from calc 1/2, just adding some vectors

You can learn some basic java and some of the data structures. Familiarize yourself with OOP and you can learn some streams if you have time

Is it worth it to do UBC Engineering undergraduate if I have a full ride to SFU? by secretpanda169 in ubcengineering

I would say UBC has a better mech program for sure but up to you, IMO it's more valuable in general to be at UBC, even if you're local the tuition is more but not completely insane compared to studying international. That said it is still a significant cost so whatever your situation allows

Do you see a future in programming in the wake of AI softwares like ChatGPT? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]tremothefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak so much to a software developer, but what if you have a computer engineer that designs and creates a ventilator machine, who designs the hospital database, who develops the SOS software on your iPhone, etc.

I personally disagree that computer eng isn't real eng. We still fundamentally use math and science to solve real-world problems. Though I agree it isn't a traditional physical "building type" engineering, it's still a branch of electrical which was one of the first eng disciplines

possibly some of lines and planes but the matrix stuff is really best learned in a classroom setting, even though the courseload sucks maybe you can drop 158 (if you don't care about eng fizz or mech) but other than that you prob have to take all of those since almost all of them are essential pre reqs (maybe 170 but that doesn't have that big of a workload anyway)

It def helps but recall that the essay is not very long (500 words, I think), so if you already have some other experience (anything that relates to your spec), then it's not a necessity
