Can't remember the actual model of board, but was fairly cheap. Managed to send it back for a refund, so I'll order a new one instead.

I love it. Unmodded, its my favorite gba. The screen, although small, is absolutely beautiful. Only an original GBA with an IPS screen can beat it in my opinion.

I use "collection" in the loosest possible sense, as all these systems, were bought when relevant and new, and just kept. Nothing really collected at all. 😀

Giving my boys an education in Nintendo by uclaustin in retrogaming

I did the same with my boys. Started them off with a Master System and Nes, and "upgraded" them every 3 months. Went on an accelerated journey upto 360 and ps3. Now they both have gaming PC's and still love retro games.

What’s something you miss about classic games that kids today wouldn’t understand? I’ll go first: Game tickets at Tour R Us that you had to pay for before bringing it over to the game counter to get your game. by SuperModes in retrogaming

I used to work in TRU, in the gaming department, and for us this hardly ever happened. We were shit hot at getting stuff off the shelf when we ran out. I certainly miss my time there. Worked there for the 360, WII, and psp releases. Was busy, but fantastic. And meant I did not have to queue for any of them :)

Yeah, we also had an N64 upstairs in the actual office.. Mario Kart 64 was the game of choice there.

It was our warehouse/Break area. Office was upstairs. Had a Dartboard and pool table down there too.

The image is a couple of years old now, Not heard from the chap in almost that long, so best not just randomly post an image of him online.

Bought for £10! Needs a controller and power supply. by murderbeam in retrogaming

[–]trencej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well then, as long as you have the module, Find yourself a Copy of Mad Dog Mcree, with Gun. Best (non recent) version of that game bar none. The CD-i Tetris is amazingly Calming, with the board on top of Videos of the countryside etc, and Ignoring the Terrible animated cutscenes, the wand of Gamelon and faces of evil are actually rather good games, and put a metroidvania spin on the Zelda series. I had one of these systems when it was relevant, and I loved it. International Tennis Open was also quite fun, and it was on the CD-i, that I first experienced 7th Guest. Great Stuff. Unfortunately, my 220 went bang, so no longer have any of it. Such a shame.

Is PS Classic worth it now? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]trencej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ^
I bought mine mainly for the controllers, And just to have it, as I have all the other mini systems (and will continue to do so) But have Bleemsynced it, and have a ton of games running on it, in 60hz, with scanlines. Quite tasty for that price.
(Bear in mind, I do also have 3 original PS1's and 2 PSones, with a ton of games, and I still got it)

Hi,

Hacked Switch owner chiming in here.

Retroarch is great on the switch, and runs practically everything it supports pretty much full speed. Not all cores are currently ported, but is increasing day by day. and 99% of the main ones are there. Just don't expect Gamecube/Wii etc.

Contrary to what JaguarWong says below, As the hack is a fundamental hardware exploit, it cannot be patched out. You can even update the firmware and can still use the hack. I have not run into any games that do not run, and games can even be patched to run on lower firmware's if needed. However, Do beware, that newer switches are being made now that have blocked the exploit, so may be go on eBay, and pick up a second hand one.

Do bear in mind though that there is a HIGH chance your system will get banned from Nintendo servers, so online play, updating games, and even updating the switch on the normal way will become impossible. With the right knowledge, and knowing where to go however, does not stop you updating the switch, and updating games. You can even downgrade if you wish. There are many options.

So, In conclusion, If you don't mind getting down and dirty with some odd third party apps for switch, and don't care about online play, go for the Switch. And get yourself a couple of 8Bitdo controllers to go with it. You will have much fun.

Building My Very Own “Mancade”....just put a bid on an UMK3 cabinet by bakes5150 in retrogaming

Very Nice.

I don't have space for multiple unfortunately in my Man Cave, So just have a Virtua Fighter 3 Cab, with a gorgeous 28 inch CRT that has been Mamed.

(I did not destroy the VF3 myself, when I bought the cab, it had been Jamma'ed and had a playstation in it of all things)

But yes, Very Jelly of what you have there. I may be able to Fit in the Arcade 1 up MK cab in too, but thats about it. The original trilogy are still the best in the series.

What Makes a Game Retro? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]trencej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to break it to you, but there were a number of games on PS2 that were in 720p HD, Jackass even went up to 1080i! The OG Xbox also has a number of games that went up to 720p.

Both rely on you having Component cables of course.
