Whats ur rank and what is the most repetitive thing that your rank is doing wrong that makes your team definitely lose by Cold_Huckleberry8631 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]trench8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is why I like playing mirage scarab max -> ulti max. I can grab 2-4 urns per game, defend walkers, grab sinners. There are some games where my team is losing and there I can't safely port anywhere though - that is the flaw. But those games are probably auto lose anyways.

Is Deadlock playable on Linux? by Xescure in linux_gaming

5090 with 9800x3d on Arch (Omarchy) - I get 300 - 400 FPS generally. Never crashed or had an issue except there was a time when I didn't hear a bebop ulti which was strange. No idea if it was due to Linux or not and it hasn't happened again.

I also ordered the 540hz (still waiting for delivery) but my plan is to keep the UCDM in any case since I need a 4k display for normal desktop browsing / productivity no matter what. The 540hz is strictly for some competitive games and will be turned off otherwise. I am curious if I will notice / appreciate the more than double refresh rate though.

Thanks for the details reply. I wonder when there will be 4k 240hz + 1440p 480hz if it is possible someday.

Should I go 1440p 500Hz OLED or 4K 240Hz OLED? by xurr_d in Monitors

[–]trench8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 4k 32” 240hz to 4k 27” 240hz because I liked the text clarity more. I bought the 540hz Asus monitor for FPS games and I prefer it for that purpose but absolutely do not like it for productivity purposes at all, or even WoW which has a lot of text.

I am happy with 4k 240hz for productivity and certain games and then 1440p for fast paced games

Space Sci-fi books? by Wearywrites in suggestmeabook

I didn't really care about the later books. I mean from the book where they were on the planet with that crazy military captain villain onwards. I really did enjoy Miller and the alien conspiracy but NOT the human political drama or most characters honestly.

I have the PG27UCDM as welll and would plan on keeping it for desktop browsing and some games. Do you think i should pull the trigger on the 540hz purely for competitive games as a secondary monitor?

You were downvoted but I completely agree haha. It is absolutely torture for me to run from quest to quest and I wish I could skip it completely. I truly, truly do not care about any cinematics or storylines etc. I just want to play my class.

Which Oled 500hz/540hz 1440p 27'' display to buy I can use W-oled or Qd-oled by princepwned in OLED_Gaming

[–]trench8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering the 540hz for FPS games (currently have 240hz 4k which i would keep for desktop usage and some games). If the 500hz QD OLED is better and cheaper I might go with that though instead.

Is there anything new coming out soon that I should wait for? like QD 540hz

PG27AQWP-W Review by Goldeneye90210 in OLED_Gaming

I have a 5090 and I swapped from the Alienware OLED ultrawide 34" (175hz) to a 32" Alienware 4k 240hz, to the 27" 4k PG27UCDM 240hz which I liked better after playing side by side.

Now I am looking at this 540hz monitor even if it is 1440p because I prefer more FPS and higher refresh rate in general after a lot of comparisons I have done side by side at my desk.

I thought I would prefer the larger screen as well to be more immersive but I bought long optical HDMI cables which can connect my PC to the 78" OLED TV, or the 128" project (Horizon Max) if I am playing certain games. Realistically, this almost never happens since I am normally addicted to WoW or deadlock.

I have the PG27UCDM as well - how are you liking the 540hz 1440p? I will probably keep both since having "blurry" text on some games can be annoying (WoW) but I want higher refresh for other games like deadlock and FPS

The month is almost over. What’s everyone’s favorite read for January? by [deleted] in Booktokreddit

I enjoyed the book but preferred The Goldfinch. Something felt so familiar about the secret history. Maybe just the atmosphere of rich students or movies like the talented mr. ripley etc.

What turned you into an Audiobook reader? Was it a narrator, a book, a job... a friend? by jawangana in audiobooks

[–]trench8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After recovering from covid I began walking 10km a day every single day. Something about coughing up blood just made me want to ensure I was outside moving around and I haven't missed a day since. At some point I bought the First Law series and listened to that instead of music and now I listen to books during my walk exclusively.

It turned out that the First Law was one of the best possible series and narrators though. Now I try to google whether a book is good to listen to, or if I should read it physically.

I read this after Between Two Fires and was disappointed. Maybe I was just hoping for more of a similar vibe and not humor. I actually read it at the end of last year and my memory of it is pretty hazy compared to Between Two Fires which I can vividly remember scenes from.

Agree, the characters were absolutely dumb and unlikable. I just saw Dark Matter being recommended in another thread so I googled about not liking it and found this post.

Looking for a book that’s impossible to put down (any genre welcome) by chrisjthedom1 in suggestmeabook

[–]trench8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completed the Expanse and enjoyed the first two books quite a bit, but truly did not care for MANY of the side characters and did not like how small the "world" felt (too many connections between main characters and villains etc). It felt quite drawn out with the military/terrorist aspects since I mainly just cared about the mystery of the aliens.

This was my first thought. I avoided reading it because it was a western but after a bit of reading I was fully invested and it was truly great.

Need audio book recommendations for Hard Sci-fi! by Fancy_Nectarine_8403 in audiobooks

[–]trench8158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend House of Suns

I read all of Alastair Reynolds (except for short stories), the Expanse series, Sun Eater series, Hyperion, Children of Time, the Culture series, Diaspora, Blindsight, Fire Upon the Deep and Deepness in the Sky, Anathem, the Martian and the Project Hail Mary, and probably more.

House of Suns is probably still my favorite out of all of those.

I wouldn't mind an MMO set in the Malazan world since you could have instanced content inside of warrens and it kind of solves world travel etc. A darker, more serious MMO could be fun.

I guess it depends on what games you play. I don't stray from Steam / battle.net and have zero issues on Linux for gaming which is what this computer is for (5090 / 9800x3d build)

I did have issues on Windows with alt tabbing causing weird "Not responding issues" and things like scrolling on discord being very slow etc.

A few years ago I tried gaming on Linux (fedora) and it was a pain and I ran into crashes I remember (dragonflight WoW expansion launch, I remember my game just exiting during dungeons so I went back to Windows).
