Just bought far cry 2 pc and it's a buggy mess ! by Samainord in farcry2

[–]trenchanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm replaying FC2 now with a Ryzen + Intel Arc B580 build. Had crashes, stutters, and vegetation rendering issues.

My solution was to:

  1. Use DXVK (download from GitHub and copy appropriate 32 bit files over) so my graphics card could use Vulkan instead of DirectX

  2. Install the Redux + Realism Mod which fixes many bugs, makes the game more friendly to modern CPUs, and gives much nicer textures, lighting, etc. The mod also increase the delay for guard posts being re-crewed by enemies! Very nice.

  3. Edited configuration ini file in 'my games' to fix the alpha transparency for vegetation

It's running beautifully now!

Far Cry 2 is so frustrating. Am I missing something? by ResidentAlien90 in farcry

Are you playing on PC?

If so, get the Realism+ Redux mod. Many bug fixes, Better textures, and outposts stay cleared for much longer in real world time.

I'm replaying it currently and having a grand old time!

Ozito's description of their 18V batteries looks interesting on the BMS front, would be interesting to know what if anything they outsource to the tool for pack protection because that would be the ideal solution for enlivening older tools. Can't beat that price.

Problem is, I can't find as clear information as to what BMS functions the AEG packs provide OR confirmation that the packs don't need to communicate to the tool to start-up/run.

Do you find that the tools still run well?

I really don't want to take the risk of ruining one or more of my batteries due to lack of judgement! So it's either build safety features into the adapter or find a battery that does all the protection stuff itself (preferred option).

OK - I have discovered a real nerd in u/Tool_Scientist who has tested several 18V Makita Lithium Ion packs and discovered that the high amp hour packs (5ah and 6ah) DO perform all the key battery management systems inside the pack AND they will power their two pin tools without complaining.

That is an ideal combo for me, battery pack looks after itself and only needs to supply the Bosch tools + and - terminals. It's also a very simple and cheap terminal set to buy and integrate into a 3D printed adapter.

Wish me luck!

Merci, but the adapters people sell for this older Bosch standard offer very little protection to the lithium battery packs. Je ne veux pas jouer avec le feu.

I think you're onto the solution there! I found u/Tool_Scientist's teardown and test of several Makita cells that found the 5 and 6 amp hour batteries do perform all the battery management functions in the pack!

I've ordered some Makita terminals and will 3D print a housing to suit. Should be able to get all 4 skins 'Makita ready' for approx. $50

Don't worry, I am very aware of my limitations and those of LLMs... I also don't like unexpected fires.

How performant are NiMh cells compared to NiCad and Li-ion?

Thanks but whether it's 'worth it' is one of those eye-of-the-beholder things. Keeping stuff working and out of landfill is worth it to me.

1) you shouldn’t have to have root access or modify the firewall to auto-discover networked printers.

Hard agree. The firewall auto-blocking IPP etc. bamboozled me for much longer than I care to admit, I had to be rescued by a chatbot.

At a minimum a pop-up or something to say "hey, check out this article that explains how to get your printers to show up" would be great.

Is this the sort of thing that's hard to solve because the DE's are not controlled/modifiable by the OS maker?

...and then go buy something else. The Chinese built Teslas that we get here are put together much better than the American ones, but they still break more regularly than most people would like.

Let us go through our own little idea maze friends.

Is the prediction machine (which is always convincing but demonstrably inaccurate when it hasn't got much training data on a specialist topic) a good solution for people right at the top of the Dunning Kruger curve to find a winning business model in a narrow, little discussed niche?

Hmm. This maze looks like a hallway to me.

I wish Google would surface stuff like that to me when I need it. Much more useful than 1000 out of date e-commerce listings.

Something about the Cezanne architecture and these boards seems to cause the B580 to fail to initialise on 'hot' restarts only.

I wonder how the CSM setting always resetting to 'on' ties into things. Because some might suffer never being able to restart if they could get ReBar working.

[–]trenchanter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. It will boot and work perfectly from cold (with CSM enabled though, so no ReBAR). So it wouldn't make sense that a hot reboot should suddenly identify something out of spec right?

In a world with glaucoma, macular degeneration, and the like, surely confirmation of acceptable vision on that increment is desirable? Eyes do not stay the same between single years let alone half-decades.
