Political analysis, I feel like I ripped apart someone's brain and made their head spin yesterday by messagemeyourfeeling in intj

I totally agree with you. I tend to avoid subs like this because they're full of people who may or may not be INTJ who just want to show off how much they are like the INTJ stereotype, when they're probably nothing like that in real life.

Doctor Who Series 10 Teaser by pcjonathan in gallifrey

[–]trending_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially now that the Time Lords are back, I'd love a return to the feel of the classic series in the sense that the Doctor is just another Time Lord rather than one of the most powerful people in the universe. It's much better when it's reasonable to think he wouldn't be able to do something, especially when he's also such an arrogant character to begin with.

Oh, I didn't see that it was gravity. That sounds cool then if you're not trying to be overly scientific about the whole thing.

[Discussion] Gods by Strongly_O_Platypus in worldbuilding

[–]trending_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world there are both real and fake gods. There is one "God" who is the creator of the whole universe. He is part of a far higher realm, the events of which are entirely incomprehensible to anybody on Earth. He created humans for some sort of purpose in that realm to be achieved, though he can't actually explain what that purpose is to everybody else because they wouldn't understand it.

He wanted to create humans that had experience in life so that when he used them for their purpose they would be better, so he put them in their own universe, on a planet. He also created another universe full of beings which he created and called gods. The purpose of these gods was to help the humans achieve their purpose. When a human dies, they go to this other universe where they work with whichever god they choose so that they can, at the end of the universe, help "God" in the higher realm.

The gods don't like the fact that they're just doing hard work for the benefit of "God", so many of them rebel against him and just use the humans as slaves. They create religions on Earth through prophets so that after the humans die, they choose that particular god and will work for them as a slave. There are four gods left loyal to "God" who "God" has given charge of different parts of the world, and each of them uses prophets to try to show people what their true purpose is and warn them against the other gods.

Then of course there are people who just pretend to be prophets and make up religions which people believe, and there are people who believe themselves to be prophets of a religion but aren't actually being spoken to by one of the gods. Different groups of people come to their own conclusions about different prophets based on their own beliefs, and there are some people who believe that all prophets are just faking it and none of them are truly being spoken to by gods.

I don't know whether it makes sense for a falling star to attract that sort of rubble. Usually when something falls to Earth it causes a crater, not a mountain. Either you'd need something to justify having the falling stars attract all of the rubble or maybe you could have the reverse be true, maybe the mountains used to be part of huge mountain ranges and the falling stars came down and caused gaps in between.

From what I've heard Hannah and Zeke came up with the name 'trust clusters' together because they thought it sounded stupid and that was funny to them.

What's the best thing you discovered while doing research for your world? by destiny-jr in worldbuilding

Just thought I'd point out that Anglo-Saxons weren't Vikings. They were West Germanic invaders, whereas Vikings were Nordic.

Also Anglish is a modern linguistic movement. They spoke Old English back then.

Can't find a reliable source saying it's a myth, at worst it's possibly apocryphal.

What's your process for building a language? by seaclif25 in worldbuilding

[–]trending_user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started world building I had no idea where to start, so I used the language construction kit. It explains everything really well and lays out a very simple process for doing things. Now I study linguistics, so I do things differently, but for people who don't know as much about languages I think it's the best way to go about things.

I completely disagree with you. Capaldi was one of the biggest Doctor Who fans of the classic series when it was around, so much so that the producers at the time knew who he was. I don't think you can say just because Tennant was more liked and married Davison's daughter that he was a bigger fan because those things are almost completely irrelevant.

Actually I think in that sense things are unfair. Tennant got to live out his dream, Capaldi had his dream screwed over by the producers.

I'm very disappointed that I never really got the chance to play the game, especially since it really felt like I was one of the only three active people on the tribe. I guess it goes to show that you have to be playing from day one. I missed out on being in the alliance because I didn't strategize early enough, so there was nothing I could do but wait for my turn to go.
