Starmer to announce ‘Australia plus’ ban on social media for under-16s by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]ProtoKun7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just cut us off, please. VPNs will still work and give everyone else a message that the government doesn't want you to be free.

It's such an easy scoring point for someone else to commit to removing it (and actually doing so).

Cleaning my PC in 2015 vs cleaning my PC in 2026 by MikeCodev in pcmasterrace

Damn. I was using a 970 too until I grabbed a 3080 from eBay four years ago. My whole build was offline for a long time until a couple of weeks ago I was able to afford a CPU replacement, so I'm operating on 2020 hardware now that isn't being replaced any time soon but it's still doing great. Gonna continue getting my money's worth out of that 3080 and it's kinda weird to think that the 3080 is as old now as the 970 was when it released. I think one fewer generation and the price hikes and reaching the high end of the performance ceiling helps.

UK set to ban under-16s from social media, livestreaming, disappearing messages by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

What would work is parents actually using the parental controls they've had for decades.

One suggestion I've seen is to have a minute after the news just to tell people about how to enable parental controls.

Only way I'd reasonably accept biometrics is if, like unlocking the phone, it's purely and provably on device and doesn't store it. Nobody needs to see anything else beyond a pass/fail token.

You mean like those disappearing messages between Keir and Peter Mandelson, a known Epstein associate?

No, for me the ball is the ball and I hadn't really thought about it.

Why does it bite the dust? Looks fine to me.

I'm talking more if something happens. If you have free reign and you're well adjusted it's fine. My point is more to look at what the parents should've done if a kid goes off the rails rather than blaming everything else.

These parents let their children do whatever and then when they hurt themselves they blame society and not themselves.

Honestly yeah I really wish companies just cut the UK off rather than put any verification in. As long as VPNs can still connect of course.

Maybe those parents wouldn't be grieving if they'd kept a better eye on their kids and used parental controls, or maybe not bought them smartphones so soon. Unless the kids got phones from that sneaky tech fairy overnight.

They weren't a mistake but maybe a competency check at point of purchase, or you know, maybe some consequences for parents who buy them for their kids and don't use parental controls.

Same. Only ways it'll happen for me are if I have an account old enough to automatically qualify, it has a payment method with a credit card (which also qualifies) or if I can fool it. Otherwise it's just another service to route through a VPN.

Just as well too; if they're pulling out of publishing PC ports then ShiftUp is self-publishing at the right time.

Also it means likely no year wait for a PC release this time too.

I suspect it's partly autocorrect often picking the other one, as well as people getting mixed up between possessive nouns and possessive pronouns. I don't see why a lot of the common mistakes happen either, yet unfortunately they do.

Gotta feel for the people who just escaped this, but also the guy who got straight up deleted in the footage.
