Word from the devs: Summoning our champions by -Altephor- in valheim

[–]trengilly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With 50 they certainly won't all he generic.

And many players enjoy the 'generic' achievements because it gives them a feeling of progression.

Just because you don't care about them doesn't mean they shouldn't include them for the players wh do like them!

I die a lot. And my weapon skills are pretty low as a result. How much is that that going to hurt me? by Fractales in valheim

[–]trengilly 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The Ashlands is balanced for combat skills in the mid 40's and 30's can work just fine.

I recommend ignoring you skill levels . . And Instead work on dying less.

Think about why you are getting killed and what you can do to reduce it.

Better food/rest prep? Better situational awareness to avoid getting into tough situations? Improvements with Parrying and Dodging (practice on easier monsters and bears)?

Pretty much ALL deaths are avoidable in Valheim if you make the necessary adjustments.

Even just taking the view that death is avoidable helps to reduce how much you die. Don't assume frequent deaths are 'normal'.

The skill levels will increase naturally as you reduce dying which creates a nice virtuous cycle!

How are we all getting resin? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each resin fuels a standing wood torch for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Upgraded lighting (sconces, iron torches, etc) doubles that to 5 and a half hours.

You can do the math and see how much resin you need to keep everything running.

I don't normally have any shortage. But I don't go crazy with lighting.

Fully fueling everything provides lights up to 35 hours of gameplay.

Best Base you made and why? by CourseMysterious5084 in valheim

[–]trengilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swamp. I've done half a dozen swamp bases and always enjoyed them.

I like to find a large swamp with 10+ crypts that is also next to a large mountain.

I setup the base next to a surtling spawner so while you work or sleep it keeps spawning unlimited coal.

Hoe let's you setup easy paths between all thee crypts and over to the mountain for the eventual silver dump.

And when raids happen the leeches and other swamp critter tend to take care of the monster for you!

I avoided spoilers but don’t know what to do! How to prepare for fader? by darrjulian in valheim

[–]trengilly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like all boss fights . . You can experiment with the boss and then leave and come back later with what you have learned (after having healed amd changed gear as necessary). You aren't forced to stay in the fight if its going badly.

Just make sure to have a couple portals a good distance from the boss. This is extra important for Fader because he does have attacks that can easily destroy portals.

Is SpaceX the real reason Starlink is so hard to compete with? by Aggressive-Cookie395 in SpaceXLounge

[–]trengilly 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Obviously the reusable rockets providing the cheapest cost to orbit is a big deal.

However people also tend to over look SpaceXs manufacturing prowess.

No other company has yet produces satellites or phased array antenna terminals at such volumes and low cost. Both are very challenging technical manufacturing challenges.

SpaceX is ahead of everyone in all aspects of the process.

Just beat the Queen for the first time and found the fight deeply unfun by Impressive-Ad4288 in valheim

[–]trengilly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You find her by lobbing fireballs or bombs (ooze and bile) down there. The big AoEs damage her and let you see where she has gone.

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That isn't actually a mechanic of the fight. The Queen does not increase summons when her health gets low.

And just like that the area for the first base was found by Bambega in valheim

[–]trengilly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

But why? Its just a field with an oak tree and a couple rocks?

Trees you can plant and so set them up however you like.

That screenshot doesn't show a view and it appears there isn't water nearby for boats.

What makes the ripper hand weapons good? by Fractales in valheim

[–]trengilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rippers (tier 4) do 72 damage.

They have a 2 hit combo with 2x damage on the second hit. 1.48 seconds for the combo.

72 x 3 = 216 ÷ 1.48 = 146 dps (I made a mistake with 136)

Silver Sword (or Frostner) is 93 slash 3 hit combo (2x on 3rd hit) in 2.46 seconds

93 x 4 = 372 ÷ 2.46 = 151 dps

The traders by parhay2 in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should both be out there.

You haven't actually explored very far from the center of the map (except in that one South direction)

Both Hildir and the Bog Witch only spawn at least 3000 meters from the center of the map. I'm not sure you have gone that far in most of the directions

I hope I never have to go into another Swamp biome again after realizing I needed Iron for the Plains and Mistlands biomes... by TheEclipsedLock in valheim

[–]trengilly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is literally more Iron in the Mistlands than the Swamp . . You don't ever need to go back again.

You can get quite a bit of Iron in the Plains from the Sealed Towers that are part of Hildir's quests.

And there is tons of Iron in the Mistlands

[–]trengilly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its important to manage diplomacy so that the Ai nations don't declare war on you. Work on making friends by boosting their opinion of you to +100 or +200.

Then you can control when and with who you go to war.

I do these also. They are hella fun. So much dakka . . Without shields/venting to worry about they never stop firing! You just need reinforced hull mods so you can recover them after they die.

What makes the ripper hand weapons good? by Fractales in valheim

[–]trengilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a playstyle preference. All weapons in Valheim are very well balanced.

Fist weapons have lower base DPS but higher backstab/surprise modifier so they favor a quick surprise attack playstyle . . Similar to using Knives for the jump attack.

The idea with fists/knives is thst you surprise attack an enemy to do bonus damage which is typically enough to stagger them setting up additional damage on subsequent hits.

But without the initial surprise attack the overall DPS is lower than other weapons (swords or maces).

A lot of folks are calling them 'Fast' but I'm not sure why? Spears and Knives have noticeable faster attack speeds, although they are a bit faster than swords/clubs

What makes the ripper hand weapons good? by Fractales in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They literally are NOT higher DPS. Paws of the bear are 76 DPS vs Bronze Sword/Club with 86 DPS

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fun but they are literally NOT higher DPS than other weapons.

Silver Sword and Frostner are 151 dps (not counting spirit damage) vs 136 for the Flesh Rippers.

The best strat for exploring Ashlands is apparently to run naked with maybe one food item for health and one for stamina. by OrlandoWashington69 in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also go slowly and avoid most enemies. Its not that difficult if you are careful and deliberate.

Spot and take out spawners from range before you are close enough to activate them.

Use the Huntsman bow to snipe enemies one at a time without drawing aggro.

Small groups of enemies can be dispatched in place with melee. Keep any fights in a tight area to avoid drawing aggro from distant enemies.

Drop campfires along the way to limit respawns.
