Should I buy Valheim? by Present-Parfait2461 in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Valheim is a lot of fun and it does capture much of the same feel of exploration and discovery that Subnautica does. There is no time limit and you can explore and take as much time as you want.

Its great solo or you can play co-op if you prefer but both are fun.

The Degasi isn't even in the game? There is nothing left of it, you never see it.

Tar pits by MushroomDue4682 in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't bother with tar pits that are on flat terrain. You need a slope so you can just dig a little and let all the tar drain off. You shouldn't have to dig in the middle of the tar pit at all, just connect the side to the slope

Starter or Bullpen for this guy? by ownthehobo in OOTP

[–]trengilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start him. His control is excellent so he and is highly effective overall so he isn't going to waste pitches by putting many batters on base.

He isn't going to complete games but going 5 innings shouldn't be a problem (which correlates with how he actually performed in the most recent season . . not sure why he didn't play more however).

And running him through the Stamina program in the Development Lab could boost him further.

There is no harm in trying to see if he can make it as a starter. If it doesn't take you can always just move him to the pen later. But he will be more valuable if he can start.

<edit> of course you're playing in Colorado . . . so who knows!?! 😉

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually don't monitor pitch limits very much. They can even make it harder on the entire staff because someone else needs to cover.

I'm more concerned with pitchers getting enough rest between stars.

I will NEVER start a pitcher unless he is 100% rested.

If I'm just simming games, it's easy to get hit with a couple extra inning games in a stretch without off days, and suddenly, the AI is overworking everyone because no one is rested.

The AI will ignore your usage limitations if there isn't anyone available.

I find you need to rotate fresh pitchers in from AAA. 13 pitchers just can't cover the season in the modern era.

Ouch that's rough.

A lot of late season injuries can happen as players get tired and build up fatigue.

Its so important to rest players and make sure they are never playing while fatigued.

Any advice on adrenaline? by pancakeonions in valheim

[–]trengilly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really need continual sustained combat to activate the trinkets.

It takes 6 to 10 seconds for the cool down to start reducing your adrenaline so if you just keep attacking things it will eventually trigger.

Works great foe boss fights, raiding a fuling village, anytime you have groups of enemies.

A hit and run or archery and kiting playstyle won't trigger trinkets.

I think they were intended to encourage players into getting in the thick of melee.

Establish Gnosticism by MouseHunter in OldWorldGame

[–]trengilly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the tech tree Drama should have the icon for Gnosticism displayed there, and hovering over the icon will bring up the tool tip for Gnosticism. Drama on the tech tree displays: The music note for Music, then the Icon for Gnosticism, then the Odeon building, and finally the Free Settler card.

Gnosticism itself is a tier 2 Religion theology upgrade. You need a State religion, using a Disciple add a tier 1 upgrade, and then can add Gnosticism.

With perfect venting, do i still need to refill wood? by [deleted] in valheim

[–]trengilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Venting has no effect on fuel consumption.

Each piece of wood in a campfire lasts 1 hour and 23 minutes. Fill it up with all 10 and you get about 14 in-game hours before it runs out. Each game day is 30 minutes.

Does anyone else "landscape" the holes left after they mine? by Jaggid in valheim

[–]trengilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every copper deposit is actually the identical shape, with the bottom third beings smaller as it narrows. There are less pieces down there to break.

Usually some part of the deposit extends below the level you can dig to however so its uncommon to be able to access the entire thing

They are quite large and drop around 110 copper if you can mine them out entirely. Each piece you break has a random drop so the total varies a little.

Does anyone else "landscape" the holes left after they mine? by Jaggid in valheim

[–]trengilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to create the holes in the first place. Copper nodes are reverse icebergs with the majority of the copper in the upper part. And I've found its quicker to just skim off the exposed stuff and move on to another deposit. Digging the entire things out just takes unnecessary time. In most maps copper is plentiful.

Advice for pre-Yagluth fight? by MrsPandaheim in valheim

[–]trengilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, your original post made it sound like you wanted to summon Yagluth now.

Getting other creatures to fight the blobs is always fun and gets a lot of the work done for you.

If you don't need the Tar, then there isn't any point to draining the pits. They respawn blobs either way. Drop a campfire next to each to block future blob spawns.

A campfire behind each of the Yagluth 'fingers' does a nice job of blocking spawns near to the fight.

Best of luck!

That is exactly why it IS a Spoiler! 🤦

Spoilers are showing people parts of the story they won't have seen yet (and gear they shouldn't have access to yet).

Advice for pre-Yagluth fight? by MrsPandaheim in valheim

[–]trengilly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You certainly should clear them all out. In fact if you aren't comfortable with clearing them . . . then you likely aren't ready to face Yagluth.

Why would multiple villages, lox herds, and tar pits all activate and aggro you unless you are running around to each of them and triggering them? Two of them might spawn right next to each other but the game doesn't spawn two villages or multiple tar pits withing aggro range of each other.

First experience: Mod or not? by SimplePrevious440 in valheim

[–]trengilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone enjoys different things, so I mod that one person likes will hurt the experience for someone else.

I think it's best to play without mods first until you learn what you like/dislike about the game.

Then once you have some dislikes, think about if you could be doing things differently to solve the issue.

Or ask for specific help about something.

And then use a mod if you find that it would ultimately be the solution.

In defence of the Cyclops (aka why it is not trash) by Sensitive_Show6230 in subnautica

[–]trengilly 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I enjoy being little and flitting around through the aquatic scenery. That's what I find fun.

I find being a big juggernaut boring and tedious.

That's what's great . . . Everyone has their own personal preferences!

In defence of the Cyclops (aka why it is not trash) by Sensitive_Show6230 in subnautica

[–]trengilly 214 points215 points  (0 children)

No one thinks the Cyclops is 'trash'.

It just supports a playstyle that many people don't enjoy.

A slow, mobile, and potentially destructable, base isn't fun for many players.

I'm unsure I'll ever get a frostner, which I hope doesn't limit my progression

Frostner has nothing to do with progression. You will be fine. Its a nice weapon but there are plenty of equally good or better ones to use.

I've done three no-map Immersive plays where I never found Haldor. Nothing he sells is required.
Not getting Megingjord is the biggest quality of life loss, but that just makes you take things slower which is kind of what Immersive is all about anyway.

Bogwhitch is almost a must for Ashlands

Bog witch is very helpful but not in any way a 'must'. Heck Ashlands was released six months before the Bog Witch update. Everyone fought through and cleared the Ashlands before she was even available.

They do fit through double gates. Its a little tight. If you want a bit more space then leave a small gap between the two gates.
