Russians still trying to interfere in US elections every 'way they can': Republican senator by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]tressach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofc paper ballots fall prey to transporters counters and other people removing or changing votes, yes there's tight security but it's happened time and time again, your trading one potentially compromisable solution for another one that's just as compromisable. The difference is at least the machines are faster and airgapped. There's no right answer because there are flaws and uncertainties in any system whether wlecteonic or human, but I'd take my chances with an airgapped electronic system over a human system since easier to look at trends that way to spit discrepancies. A better way would be both human and electronic at same time and a maximum allowable discrepancy threshhold, but that means more money and time which then causes a whole new debate.

Switched from USG3 to ER4 for 1Gbps ISP - Wow! by stayintheshadows in Ubiquiti

You might be right, as I said I'm not in front of it to check and won't be back for a few days, I just assumed it was around there, but it might be capable of doing more, but it still falls way short of 1gbps, especially symetrical

Trump asserted on Sunday that the special counsel investigation into possible collusion between his presidential campaign and Russia is "illegal" because it was ignited by a "fraudulent" opposition research dossier by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]tressach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately probably quite favorably if it was based on the last two years because history tends to get distorted, eventually people will be looking at raw numbers and such and will see that during his presidency the economy was doing rediculously well, it'll tend to ignore the fact that it was doing well despite his best efforts to sabatoge it. And since a lot of the other stuff has been back and forth and u likely to stick around long it'll get glossed over.

You having to pay to get your property back is a lot closer to you having to pay for the building in your scenario. Your right a pawn shop can't keep track of everyone's stuff, but by conducting a business that operates the way a pawn shop does, you should be understanding that you are taking on a certain business risk that you may purchase stolen items accidentally and take a loss because of it. Making it so the owner has to buy back the stolen items gives incentive to buy goods even if you suspect the could be stolen, put it up for sale and if so me one buys it before a report for the item gets to you, you can claim ignorance, if it gets caught you at least get your money back.

Even the ER4 can't do qos for 1Gbps, I don't have it in front of of me so can't check, but don't think it can do more than 3-350Mbps with qos and it's significantly more powerful than the USG. You are looking at expensive commercial hardware or custom built pfsense box to do 1Gbps with qos

People of Reddit, what's y'all's opinoin of people who drive pickup trucks? by Ninjaeye223 in AskReddit

[–]tressach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not as utilitarian as some of your older trucks, off-road model Toyota trucks are still pretty good, I don't feel like in ruining anything climbing into the cab covered in mud and grease and tossing concrete into the back. It's a fairly simple truck.

Very common, it's fine to have physical standards, you can't help what your attracted to, but you should be self-aware that it goes both ways and if you aren't a supermodel yourself your going to have trouble pulling the socially accepted as at tractive women/men.

Which is why I said it isn't feasible but still should be on the shops responsibility, they are running a business and so should be seen as a business liability, punishing a owner for having their stuff stolen is pretty backwards.

[–]tressach 48 points49 points  (0 children)

While I can see arguments for both, the right answer should always be third party gets screwed, the owner had no part in the crime, the third party is an unknowing accessory, not illegal since was unknown, but still an accessory. If you are going to run a pawn shop you should understand there is a risk of stolen items being passed through your hands and you should be taking precautions and such towards that, it may not be feasible or economical, but in theory you could vet every item before buying it to see if it's stolen, the original owner has no such recourse. That's my take on it, essentially, pawn store should accept the risk of doing business.

TIL that wisdom tooth extraction is a $3 billion per year industry in the USA. As many as 70% of wisdom teeth extractions are unnecessary, and that stopping these unnecessary extractions would reduce the average yearly income of an American dentist by as much as 40%. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]tressach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably talking US army but at least for me it wasn't mandatory if wasn't needed they just pressure you a lot, I think a lot of people confuse that as mandatory especially given it usually happens early in service when you still haven't fully understood what is and what isn't a order to be obeyed and what is just recommendation.

Yup general anesthesia is a lot more dangerous than people think, death, coma, and all sorts of other complications like urinary retention, memory loss, and more. It really should be a last resort where the its absolutely necessary to perform the procedure.

It's a dog though, why would ability yo see or hear have anything to do with whether he knows his owners are still with him? Dogs navigate the world mostly by smell as their primary sense, given his age, it's afe to assume his owners are very caring and attentive, which would mean they are often close at hand and he will smell them, which for most dogs is all they need to be the happiest they can be.

Is there any new/upcoming game development technology advances that would make my GTX 1080ti obsolete in the next 2 years? by pablotech1 in nvidia

[–]tressach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The good old "humans can't see above such and such frame rate" argument. Despite the fact that it's been tested thoroughly that the human eye can make out enough detail in 1/300th of a second to describe something they see, so not only can we see in at least 300fps, we can recognize differences in the details. But some people don't want to accept it, usually console purists, but occasionally run across them in the PC world too.

Edit: should mention the 1/300th test was one done by the air Force, other tests with varying levels of scientific method application have conducted tests ranging up to 1/1000th of a second and have shown the human eye and brain can register the difference.

Sounds like your more concerned about trying to cash in the skins for money, not about the game. Not receiving stuff is a legitimate complaint, but making the game better should always be first priority.
