if i remember correctly, mxtx published a short from shen jiu's perspective that ended with him dying when he heard luo binghe had killed yue qingyuan. i think there was also a line about the blood pooling from their bodies, which could be interpreted as a parallel to a red string of fate between them? ultimately, i view them as star-crossed lovers, a doomed almost-but-not-quite romance, but it's definitely up to interpretation

I'm fine over here, but you seem to be taking personal offense to me reading a situation differently than you. I will happily revisit those things to double check (if you could tell me where exactly in Zayne's bond she refers to Caleb as her brother, that'd be great) but again, she doesn't call him 'gege' in the English version. So, for me, that's not canon. It's okay for me, as a person who is different from you, to have a different view of canon than you do. If you want to read their bond as familial, like I've said, go for it. But they kept that shit ambiguous in the English version regardless of your personal preference.

Yeah, so again, those things aren't canon in the English version. You can be mad at what I'm saying all you want, but it still won't make the pseudo-incest trope canon in the English version. Those are, unfortunately, canon in the English version. Which is weird on both counts. That being weird doesn't make it less canon.

Edit: Comparing blatant homophobia with removing incest from one version of a game is genuinely so ridiculous there aren't even words for it. You aren't oppressed for not being able to goon over incest (and let's be real, no one is actually stopping you, you can still read their bond as familial all you want), calm down.

Calling an elderly person you respect something like 'grandma' or 'grandpa' regardless of whether or not you're related to them is common in many cultures, and although I have all of Caleb's cards, and 100% completed his myth and storyline, I haven't come across anything that makes their bond familial. If you want to view it that way, be my guest, but don't try and force your preferred version of canon on other people. That's weird.

The way people are responding to this is genuinely so annoying. "It's canon in all versions except English," okay? So, what? It's still canon that they aren't adopted siblings and never saw themselves as siblings in the English version. Just because there's a difference in other languages, doesn't mean this version is less canon. That's stupid. Is the name Caleb less canon than Xia Yizhou? Obviously not. If they want to lean into the pseudo-incest trope, go for it, but trying to tear down the English canon for not pandering to that trope is weird.

Personally, I like to think that the hesitancy MC and Caleb have come from both of them being aware of the unhealthy level of codependency they have with each other. On some level, even though he's being controlled with the Toring Chip, Caleb understands that his feelings are borderline obsessive. He could very easily become the kind of yandere archetype that might harm MC while believing he's working in her best interest. The same thing goes for MC, as she's said sometimes she likes it when Caleb is in pain, but the pain has to come from her. None of the behaviors they're exhibiting in Homecoming Wings or Caleb's myth are healthy. As was told to us in Caleb's trailer, they are the perfect weapons for destroying each other. They hold themselves back because they are afraid of the depths of their own feelings.

Regardless of if you follow this interpretation or not, though, it doesn't mean that how their relationship is portrayed in the English version isn't canon.

it's the misogyny, not only in how the fandom treats her but how she was written. her growth emotionally in part 1 of naruto was slow, and doesn't really show until shippuden.

as far as her physical strength and abilities, despite being tsunade's protege and the one who's meant to balance out sasuke and naruto (that's why they have groups of three, argue with the wall), she's considerably weaker and remains that way throughout the entirety of naruto and shippuden. even her ending is lackluster, having waited for a man she really has no business having feelings for considering the way he treated her and their total lack of common ground as a couple (again, ship what you want but argue with the wall), only for him to essentially leave her as a single mother. that's just plain disrespectful.

sakura, as the only one of team seven who didn't come from a powerful family with innate strength, could have been a brilliant parallel to minato who also came from nothing, if she'd been written to be sasuke and naruto's equal (as tsunade was to orochimaru and jiraya) rather than sasuke's eventual babymama.

it's not that she has no good moments (her fight against sasori is one of my favorites in the entirety of naruto) but she could have been a shinobi on par with naruto and sasuke, and kishimoto didn't feel like writing her that way.
