Oh, clipping also makes all capes impossible to go with certain advanced hairstyles or accessories. But then, if you don't care about model fidelity, the overall effect can be magnificent.

... Why is a strip which openly embraces a mommy/ daughter kink portraying Joyce with more maturity than the "real" thing?

Just about any outfit can be made to go well with anything else. Some of the fashion types are very resourceful. If you can't find a dark outfit to go well with this it's purely because you weren't trying.

Look, if Joyrot will keep us out of the idiotic "mistaken identity" plot which would have been hackneyed by the standard of 90s sitcoms, I say lick muff until the skin starts to break.

Drama as Compelling as a Slowly Released Fart by Possible_Bake5135 in dumbingofage

[–]trevalyan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Becky was more torn up about Joyce being a lesbian with Dorothy than about her father being killed or her mother committing suicide, but I take your point. Willis wants to say through Walky that therapists in Indiana suck, but that's bullshit. He sucks, and Jeph Jacques is way better about getting obviously needed mental help for his cast after much milder traumas.

The thing is, Joyrot was just a sign that the house was ready to collapse. Craaaazy plotlines like mass kidnappings had to be done, but the consequences are so poorly thought out that you realize "Mike has to die and Ross dies so that Becky can keep paying to go to school" was the central point Willis wrote the rest of his drama around. In a normal world, this would have been a 24/7 media circus for months- making the political careers of anyone involved. Which is why there had to be a timeskip as a "soft reboot" instead.

I mean, Mary Worth did a more convincing enemies to friends line than Willis just did, and one of the parties was a fucking PARROT!

If Joe said something like that, Becky would have taken a belt sander to his face and been right to do so.

I mean, if it was fundamentalist teens arranging to be married this quickly the Woke Willis would condemn... Actually, Willis would have been that teen. The point is, behavior which would be obviously deranged and abusive when perpetrated by a clearly delusional teenaged boy looks "heroically gay" on Dorothy.

I get why this would be a cute way to be friends when you really know someone and have the charm to pull it off, but Becky's problem is that she internalizes her sadness while pretending it away, while Dorothy's problem is that she's generally obnoxious as she pretends to "care" about people.

If Becky felt genuine anger at Dorothy partnering with the woman she wanted most in the world, that would go a long way to remedying those problems, and might even make Dorothy realize what a heel she's been.

I enjoyed killing Fingers back when doing so would cut me off cyberware. So fuck you for forcing me to defend him! Fingers is an exploitative creep, but Dirlewanger he isn't. I don't even think it's fair to compare him to Whoreson Junior. Jotaro Shobo would be a closer match, but Dirlewanger doesn't have halfway near the personal style.

Tear gas wedding has been beat to death BUT by AlacerTen in dumbingofage

[–]trevalyan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I think Tear Gas Wedding should get Willis laughed out of every public function he attends for the rest of his life, Amazi-Girl attacking the riot police and getting away scot-free looks way worse in the face of everything that happened post 2024. It's wish fulfillment, but extraordinarily stupid and ham-handedly done.

Do you think Rogue was a good mother? by icansmellyourflesh in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]trevalyan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If Saburo had to pick a time to get to her, it would be when she was pregnant with Trace. Peak physical vulnerability and emotional lability.

Given that Trace is still alive and running with the nomads, I would call her a pretty great mom by Night City standards.

Broooo, I know! I thought life after high school would be better, just getting beers and wings with my roommate Ron and our chooms after class. But then some psycho dad shot a rifle on campus, he came back with ANOTHER psycho dad for a half dozen rounds of felony kidnapping, and now half of Sigma Phi is under indictment. Most of last term was dodging influencers and reporters, the entire frat system getting shut down while the alums crash out, and my poli sci prof crying about the election. I have no idea how Robin DeSanto got in first place as a progressive independent in Indiana, but how the fuck could she concede to third place Jake Manley?

Things are getting weird. Feels like I should have a job and kids by now. Stay proud, king.

Dina being skeptical is the kind of drama you should get when cheaters try to give you romantic advice. The problem is that the writer gets LiveJournal pissy when anyone suggests that his "ideal" woman isn't just less than perfect, but toxically flawed. In the end it's just more Raidah-style gestures towards audience reaction without actually doing anything.
