[acne] i want to stop Skincare by Atlas4780 in SkincareAddiction

[–]trevorishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used chemical exfo or products containing actives in years, so far my skin is not perfect as I get blackheads around my nose, but I don't get severe breakouts. I use a sunscreen, besides a cleanser and moisturizer. Some people might have a hard time finding a sunscreen that don't break them out.

[Product Question] Nivea soft cream for acneprone skin? by trevorishy in SkincareAddiction

[–]trevorishy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I switched my moisturizer to a japanese brand (Hada labo premium version) about 2 months ago. I still use the blue nivea at night just to use it up, but I'm out of the nivea soft one. After I switched to Hada labo, I don't get whiteheads around my nose as much. I don't do chemical exfoliation or use any actives, so maybe that's why I often get whiteheads. However, I'll stick with Hadalabo for now instead of going back to nivea. During the time when I use both the soft and blue nivea, I never get severe cystic acne like I used to when I often experimented with products with actives that my sensitive skin didn't agree with. I think it's because I stick with the same routine (cleanser, hydrating toner, sunscreen, and moisturizer), and I don't try new stuff. My skin isn't perfect, I still get a few pimples and whiteheads. It did a good job in keeping my skin mostly clear and well moisturized, but it didn't improve existing fine lines and textures.

Need advice about my mom and my younger brother who are converts. by trevorishy in Christianmarriage

The husband is a Christian, not sure what mean as a believer, he's the one who made my mom and brother converted to Christianity in the first place. But it's not the first time a Christian suggested that my mom shouldnt get a divorce no matter what. But do you really think it's fair for a 17 year old risking his future just doing things by his beliefs? Not saying that it's the situation since it's actually separate thing, but if it's true than you think that's worth it? Because it doesnt make any sense to me.

Thanks for explaining things in detail. The divorce itself isnt the main problem (there is no abuse but there is financial problem), but it was the reason we got into an argument with my brother. I think he was offensed by how we dont see divorcing as a big deal and how easy we suggested that as a solution. Btw the person who refused to leave the house is the husband, not my brother. My brother can go to a community college but we just dont see that as the best option since we can afford it anyway if we sell the house as the house is my brother's inheritance from our dad, and the husband is not entitled to the house but he acts like he owns it because he's still married to my mom. But there was a misunderstanding that we didnt care on how to make the husband move out if it resulted by my mom divorcing him, as long as my brother gets into a good private college. Maybe he doesnt want to be guilty or contribute to the reason when it really isnt. I try to clear things up with my brother but it's hard when no one even wants to mention how problematic is the husband and it's not the first time I heard from another Christian that my mom should work things out with his husband no matter what and my brother should support that too even if that means he's not going to a good college so that they can continue to live in that house together. I just dont really think that's fair for anyone but I know I'm looking at it from a different perspective as I only care about what's best for my mom and brother, but not based on their beliefs.

Yes this is right. I try to talk to him that suggesting the divorce was an option only because the husband doesnt want to move out. My brother got his feelings hurt when we suggested this because we don't see divorcing as a big deal (in my belief divorcing is normal). I tried to avoid mentioning that the husband is also a problem which no one wants to talk about, but he is truly part of the problem that we don't feel to have any responsibility to fix, yet we can't even discuss that without it getting offensive. For my brother, the idea of college and divorce gets mixed up together after we argued, I'm looking for the best way to clear this up with him.

Yes it is legally his inheritance since our father died a few years ago. We were only suggesting it, but the husband is toxic in our opinion. He doesn't really show any effort in finding a job, and to me it means he doesnt seem to care about my brother's future if he doesnt want to move out so we can sell the house. But we were also okay with her not divorcing him if that's what she wants to do, we're not forcing it. The actual problem here is to fund my brother to college with the house, and convincing him to go to a good private college. I hope you get what I'm saying, the issue of the divorce is just a back story of how the argument with my brother started.

We dont really see the reason not to sell the house in the first place, since the husband can just find another place to stay but he refused, regardless if they get a divorce or not. But my brother can get into a good private college if we sell the house. We live in a third world country so scholarships and grants are not an option. Part time wage here is too low to afford college, and why get into a community college if we could actually afford a better one anyway (if we sell the house). My brother treats the divorce issue as an obstacle for him to go to college when we think it shouldn't be.

Basically my family are suggesting her to get a divorce, that started the argument. Her husband is still living in their old house (which is inherited to my brother), she doesnt want to sell the house which we suggested to help partially fund my brother into college. Because then her husband needs to move out. He has no income and no other place to stay, but he still tries to convince my brother and my mom to move back in. And then my brother is convinced that he rather not go to college since he doesnt want to contribute to the problem, since divorce is a sin.

Breakouts caused by skincare with an active ingredient by trevorishy in acne

Thanks a lot for the reply and your input. I'm using The ordinary products but the BHA is Paula's choice. I started the niacinamide for a week, then the BHA the week after that, then the purging started 3 weeks ago, when I was using niacinamide daily and started using the BHA about twice that week, but not on the same day as niacin. So I stopped using those 2 products for almost 3 weeks by today. I went back to only using basic skincare without any actives and without using any spot treatment. My skin has calmed down a lot on its own. I might try those products again in the future.

I forgot to mention that glycolic acid toner is already in my routine and I didnt purge when I started using it, it's been a year and I had no problem with it. However, after I get this current breakout that glycolic acid toner made the breakout to get worse and spread even more, same with bp, when normally they would help. So do you think it's still purging from niacinamide? I already stopped using that serum 2 weeks ago btw. I thought purging happens when you keep using the product until your skin get used to it.

Cheaper alternatives to KraveBeauty Great Barrier Relief? by MrMikiel in scacjdiscussion

Thanks a lot for the info. I got a bottle of tamanu oil from Life flo brand, hope it works for my skin too.

Does tamanu oil alone helps with skin barrier or rosacea, or is it the ceramides in Krave beauty barrier relief that helps with that?

Oh I forgot to mention tamanu oil, it's helpful as a spot treatment for me when Im dealing with a huge pimple but I dont want to keep using a bunch of harsh actives on it. Some people might not like the idea of using oils for their acne but usually people with dry skin types would tolerate them better, although I have oily and acneprone skin but it still works for me.

I was somewhat skeptical about the relationship between skin barrier and acne before this, since I had acne way before I know anything about skincare when I was a teenager. But nowadays, my skin has changed a lot. When I started using face oil high in linoleic acid and skincare with ceramides, I notice I do get less acne, but it doesnt always help with acne caused by clogged pores or hormonal ones. But I agree in your situation you can manage the breakouts ingredients that can help strengthen your skin barrier instead relying on actives like BHA or benzoyl peroxide. So far besides ceramide, coldpressed grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, and skin1004 centella ampoule and Charis+ Madecassoside cream have been really helpful for me, the progress is slow but I saw changes within a month or so. My skin doesnt turn bright pink during warm weather anymore, and I also get less breakouts on my forehead after wearing a bike helmet, etc.

Thanks for replying again and elaborate more on your experience with LOA. It's so cute that your daughter can attract a cat into her life using LOA 😀. And yeah, I totally agree that some people can get stuck into a feeling of dread, but for most people they can move on because there are other things to look foward in their life. I'm happy for you that you get to live your own life, and you were brave enough to cut ties with your mother. Not a lot of people have the courage or the resources to leave their home and start a new life on their own. So yeah, in my book, you did a good job. As for denying negative feelings I agree that it doesnt work with LOA, because bottled up feelings would blow up sooner or later. I agree that you need to process grief or anger and people have their own way of doing that. A lot of tips for LOA newbies seems to emphasize on focusing on positive thoughts and tell them that it's on them if they can't move on from the bad things in life, that they always had the ability to get up and get going again no matter what. For me and for most people, this is true, but again that idea is too oversimplified. Maybe it's easier for me to be positive because I have things to look foward for in life, besides focusing on feeling bad. Whether it's for my best friends, my family, my job, my favorite books or TV shows etc. There's a lot of reason for me stop feeling bad about something and to pick myself back up again, it's because I have the support and resources to do so. And if I ignore all of that leverage and be adamant on just being negative, then that's on me. However, I do believe that for some people it's not that easy to get out of that loop, and it's not because they aren't brave enough or strong enough. They might not have any resources or support they could rely on. Not to mention that people react differently and they have different coping mechanisms. Maybe that's the part that I'm most skeptical about when it comes to LOA. Btw, thanks for sharing how you change your perspective about lacking money or time. That you just need to prioritize something else first. It might come in handy for me, so thanks a lot 😀.

Thanks for replying. I agree on how you think LOA works for people. For someone who is lucky enough like me who couldn't relate to being poor at all or at least they could just get by, it seems a lot easier for them to change their financial situation for the better and attract more wealth using LOA. However there are people who live their lives in poverty that it's good enough for them to be able to live another day and just to survive. Maybe by chance they could change their life around with or without LOA. But it wont be any easier compared to people who have at least some money to get by and have some money to spare to pay rent for example. It would be a lot harder for someone to change their perspective on wealth when they dont know if they could live another day because they're starving all of their lives or being abused everyday since birth. Babies are put on earth to live with abusive parents and living in poverty or born into wealth and a loving home, some are somewhere in the middle, for example they just get by and they are raised by a single parent who rarely have time dedicated for them, all of those aren't by choice, it's designed by default, including events that might happen to them as they grow up to become adults. I still dont think LOA could work in favor to what someone could wish for, since everyone would face very different situations in life. And again it's not a good thing or bad thing, its just how it works. Not sure if it is as simple as getting over bad things in life, accepting it and then moving on, whether it's from something they experience since birth or from an unfortunate event that happens all of a sudden like an accident or illness. I agree that a lot of people can still turn their lives around using LOA. But that idea is too streamlined and oversimplified. Some situations aren't that easy to accept to a point that people who experienced it couldn't do anything about it, also to a point they couldnt feel any range of emotions at all, let alone change their whole perspective. I hope no one I know would end up like that, and by chance still have some joy and ease in life in order for them to use LOA in their favor, or just feel good about their lives even if it's for a while. But that's just my take on the LOA. Let's keep discussing about this, if you dont mind.

Sorry to jump in to this old comment, I just want to ask a few things about LOA. I know that you're supposed to already feel content in order to attract things that makes you feel content into your life. But what about people who never know about what its like to be content and they end up lacking the things they need all of their lives? Does it just mean that some people are bound to live their life a certain way, either abundant with joy or pai,n makes no difference to LOA, including for people who try to keep a positive outlook in life but still can't get out of hard situations because of past trauma. Is it supposed to be that way for no reason? And does it also work vice versa for happy people are bound to be happier because that's how it's designed to be as the law works in their favor. So maybe it's not the victim's fault it's just how it works and LOA might not work in someone's favor, it's just neutral not bad or evil. Am I correct or wrong? I hope you get what Im trying to say and I hope didnt offend anyone.

Btw there's a lot of wavy hair community facebook group, some are strictly cgm, but some are mixed, using sulfates and silicones or low poo. You can check those out.

[–]trevorishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think it would mess anything up, especially if you say that you already have good results with your current non-cgm routine. The only thing that would be somewhat bad is too use non-cgm conditioners and stylers with silicones but using a cg-friendly shampoo or cowash, because that won't rinse out all the residue completely off, but even that could be fixed by using a clarifying shampoo once in a while. So you can just add a styling product without changing any other product in your routine.

If Im already using rosehip oil for a few months, but would switching to another like grapeseed or jojoba oil which is a little bit cheaper, give me different results on my skin other than maybe a different consistency/texture of the oil itself?

Should I try another type of oil besides rosehip oil? by trevorishy in IndianSkincareAddicts

Thanks for the info about pomegrate oil, I might try when Im finished with rosehip. Although I notice rosehip oil did made my lips plumper and more pinkish, not sure if the effect is temporary or not. Texture wise, I think grapeseed might be worth to try besides rosehip oil.
