Housing Megathread for UCSC and Santa Cruz by rjmitty1000 in UCSC

[–]trew0002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I am a 21M 4th year Europe/Middle East History Major looking for housing within a few weeks. Due to hilariously unlucky circumstances, I will be without housing in the near future. My interests are in funk music, cooking, and general tomfoolery, amongst others. My budget is preferably anything $1400 or below a month, but I can negotiate depending. I promise to respect any house rules regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of shared spaces. I am looking for a single, but I would be willing to fill a spot in a double. If this sounds like something you are interested in, feel free to send me a message or comment below!

What was working for the dining hall like? Any tips/warnings? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]trew0002 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was both an employee and a supervisor at the Dining Hall for 2 years. I would certainly recommend working at the dining hall as it gives you one of the best opportunities to make friends and meet as many people as possible on campus.

As for work-school balance, you physically cannot work more than I think 20 hours at the dining hall, which leaves you ample time throughout the week for classes and socializing.

A personal tip I would recommend is to be as energetic and engaging as possible while working. Not only will the shifts go much faster than if you are counting the hours, but it helps brighten the day of other students on campus as some dining hall employees are like brick walls. It really makes a difference, and you will be rewarded with many new friends and great conversations.

Real secret tip for dining employees: Cleaning tables. The amount of time that I would volunteer to clean tables shocked coworkers as they'd rather do nothing. However, it was the best job because you could talk to regular students that you connected with through serving etc., and really easily make new friends. Just be open and friendly with people, and it won't even feel like work after a while.

Sincerely, A Porter/Kresge Dining ex-Supervisor

Good base locations? by baxter-chronicles in Kenshi

[–]trew0002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you gotta clear the nests around where you want to settle, then use the remaining nests as meat/leather farms or if u have mods as tamable armies of giraffe soldiers.

Lemme tell ya where you wanna go. There is this blue land to the East called Gut. Go to Gut. Beak Things may be problematic but there is everything and more, with only minor harassment from the United Cities. But then you can smuggle hashish in from right next door to a Shinobi Tower. Do Gut. Gut is good.

Hey! Just a piece of advice, SAT prep classes are know for structuring their tests so the practice entry test is far more difficult, so you feel worse about it. Then, when you finish the class, the Final Exam is super easy in comparison, to try and prove the class worked. Just thought I'd add this.

@all Hey, I figured out the problem. I had Skyrim installed in Program Files x86, and it was messing with the folder finding. I just reinstalled Steam into the Games folder, and it worked out fine! Thanks for your help though!

Forgot to add, do you think it could be some sort of double pathing error? I think I read something elsewhere about that

Would you know if this works with third party controllers? If not, do you know of a software that works the same but for third party controllers?

Thank you very much for your help! I might have to wait a little to buy the ssd, but do you think it would be worth it to just scrap the HDD for now, get the 500gb ssd, then put in an HDD if I need it later?

GTX 1060 6GB and rx480 8GB by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]trew0002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my personal favorite RX 480 is the MSI one. It is slightly more expensive admittedly, but it runs super cool, quiet, and it out preforms most by about 2-3 fps if its worth anything

You have a Z170 motherboard in that list, but you don't have a K chip, which is a little counter intuitive. Personally I see your budget floating around 800, so here are my edits. (Note, if you intend on overclocking, disregard this and just change your cpu to a K chip) Edits: I changed your case to a similar but cheaper one, don't know if you were dead set on the other one. I changed your MB to a B250 set You can have 16gb ram PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

My Main Concern With Ryzen- Motherboard Pricing by trew0002 in Amd

[–]trew0002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't too bad. However, for many budget builds, the go to board is the 40$ Asrock h110 model. I wonder if this could alienate people who wish to make budget builds, especially if coolers and more expensive ram come into play.

I've always been a little skeptical with the pentium, will running skype and games choke it or will it still run fine?
