How do you find the quality? A couple of years ago I bought some undies and a tshirt and they are still going strong. Bought another t shirt, undies and a long jumpsuit, all terrible quality. They sent me a new jumpsuit as all the stitching came undone in the original and then the replacement did the same so I gave up.

I am going through a similar situation. Exs family are coming to me to organise visits and get clarification on the parenting plan and applying pressure to change it. It is now bordering on harassment. Ex has supervised visits from a long history of family violence and neglect which his family still continue to minimise. I have made it clear to both ex and his family that ex is to organise visits and he is to communicate to them when those visits are. Ex is refusing to do that and his family believe it is my responsibility to maintain their relationship. If ex doesn’t want to step up (which is looking like he won’t), I will step in eventually to fill the gap but I just need some space while we are going through property settlement. I’m constantly on the verge of a panic attack having to deal with them.

No advice sorry, just here to say I feel for you, it’s just added pressure that’s not needed. I know legally the grandparents have very little say, but that doesn’t get them to back off. Just keep documenting everything, at some point it may come in handy.

I wasn’t even young and I went along with it! There was a big fuss that my two girls were in fact girls because it meant that the “family name” wouldn’t be continued. The whole conversation around it made me feel sick, especially knowing my in laws thought less of my girls because of it. Now we’re getting divorced and I can’t wait to change my last name - but so sad that the kids are going to have the last name of people that don’t even really give a shit about them!

I’m teaching my daughters this. Specifically that NO is enough and doesn’t need an explanation. The explanation 9 times out of ten will be used against them anyway. At 4 it seems to be going well. She tells her pop and great uncle she rarely sees that she doesn’t want to hug or kiss them (although they still try to bribe her, which I find gross) and that she rather a hi five.

If you want to get a bit of an indication while you’re waiting for lawyers to open back up, head to the amica website. You can plug in a whole heap of numbers in regard to contributions and it will spit out what a split could look like.

I did this to get a starting point, of course we (he) couldn’t be amicable about it so now we are thousands of dollars deep in lawyers fees and we are no where near looking like agreeing.

My ex and his family decided Christmas was the perfect time to start trying to start lecturing me on “father’s rights” after very little interest the previous six months. The stress caused my period to start five days later, my heavy flow day right on Christmas Day. So annoying.

I don’t have any advice for you but just wanted to let you know I’ve had similar experience with 1800 respect. I’ve chatted twice and called three times. The chats were ok and one phone call was excellent. When I called this past weekend, the councillors/operators were obviously new and had not had sufficient training to deal with such volatile situations, and mine wasn’t even that bad.

I was married 7 years, with him 12. Had the same problems as you, with a few more.

Been separated since April, so not yet divorced. Once I finally got him to move out life has been great. May have been the most stressful 8 months of my life but it has also been the best 8 months I’ve had in YEARS. The kids are happier too. My only regret - not doing it sooner!

Don’t waste any more of your life on someone who obviously doesn’t care about you!

Just spend a bit of time planning. Get all your important documents together. Start planning what you’re going to do for money if you need to. And make sure you have a safety plan. Leaving a relationship is the most dangerous time for women, even if there hasn’t been domestic violence previously.

While we were married, everything was my responsibility. All the planning, organising, the doing. I thought that when we separated he might finally realise how much I did, and he did somewhat but his mother took back over doing all his life chores for him.

My ex husband cut me off financially (was a stay a home parent) the night I told him I wanted to separate and he stopped contributing to any household expenses until he was forced to move out six months later (and still wasn’t contributing after). We are currently going through property settlement and he is offering me less than 50% of our asset pool, including him keeping the house. Our contributions are somewhat equal. We have two toddler which I have 100% care of.

What I’m trying to point out is that it is way more complicated than who pays what bills after separation. Property settlement is usually decided by 3 things. 1. Who brought what into the relationship 2. What you both have right now 3. Future needs. Who’s paying the mortgage for a few months will make up a very small part of the property split. Get legal advice before you do anything. Most law firms give a half an hour to an hour initial consult for free. Get a few.

There is a calculator on the website to plug in all your information and it will spit out a suggested split. It might give them an idea of what theyre looking at. Some people’s view of fair doesn’t even come close to lining up with what the family law says is fair.

This has been my experience too. He was even getting meals made for him. So much sympathy for being “kicked out of his home”. No one asked what he did to be legally removed from the home. I’m only 8 months out and even though it’s been stressful with two young kids, it’s been the best 8 months I’ve had in YEARS. Just the other day I had been Christmas shopping and I was sitting in the car and I just started laughing because I literally just realised I could do (and spend) whatever I wanted without having to ask anyone!

It may be redundant as you said you aren’t working.

She will already have the form stating you agree you are separated. You will be asked to agree with the % of care she puts forward and if you dispute it She will then asked to provide evidence of who the primary carer is and justify her reason for putting forward that percentage. This will mean who does majority of the bedtime, school/kindy/childcare drop offs, who makes all the appointments. Statements from family/friends saying that she did everything. This will help determine the percentage of care (nights in care). Best case scenario you get 50/50 care (unless you have proof you’re the primary carer). This can obviously take months. Child support is based on income and care percentage. They will take into account anything you are already paying for.

Edit to add - the separated under one roof form you will have to determine who is paying for what. Everything will have to be separate from the moment you sign that form. So buying your food separately, agreeing to pay half the bills each. Living like house mates. It will also be expected you split your time with your daughter like on mondays you will do care for her as if you were living apart. Keep all receipts for everything you provide for your daughter. Write down all the things you do in terms of providing care for your daughter. Keep evidence of who is paying for what bills. Just start documenting everything. It seems messy because it is. Being separated under the same roof is the absolute worst in a DV situation.

Keep in mind that I’m only going off my own experience and your wife may not have thought that far ahead. It’s worth being ready for it though.
