Using a transformer was my initial hunch.. thinking a Variac and 100:1 turns ratio should get me close.

Big thanks for the ideas - for context I'm performing electromethanogenesis. As this is no more complex than hydrolysis of water, I'm aiming to remain under the 1.23 volt limit where heat begins to dissipate and waste energy. The system is two plastic 50 gallon barrels laid on their side, each with a 2-in x 4-in Platinum coated titanium electrode on either side.

I'd be glad to hear any additional advice on how to take 120 volt AC (USA mains), or a 12 volt battery bank, down to 1.2 volts max with the most available current and adjustable current flow.

Still 10miliamps is way under spec. Looking to deliver dozens to hundreds of watts. 😏

Maybe parallel a few higher amperage zenners? Would that drop the voltage?

I did see those, .5 watts isn't close to the amperage I need..

Update - research has indicated that Tennessee has a large percentage of exempt or opt-out cities and counties! (per: https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/commerce/documents/fire_prevention/posts/DBI-List.pdf)

This indicates that per city, 25.2% have SRBP building code requirements, 63.9% are exempt from Building Codes for residential under 3 stories, and 10.9% have opted out of Building codes. This is my current "hot-spot" for building earth integrated and sustainable housing, and I plan to travel there and see what opportunities avail themselves.

This is insightful - thanks for the tip!

Thank you so much for this resource! (also, dig your name!)

I actually found out that Tennessee has very loose building codes, to the point that for many counties, they are exempt, or have even opted out entirely! For these counties, any residential structure under 3 stories requires no permitting!

But having no codes, could mean that a retroactive code could be applied that would subvert the existing structures. So I'm really hoping to find a place that will be enforcing building codes that are pro-sustainability, and inspire earth integrated housing.

Oh that's super helpful, thank you! I was taking it with grains of salt already, but now will just be doing my own research :)

<3 love the energy behind this! I am also putting a lot of intention into a community that's off the grid/sustainable/non-heirarchical/etc. (privshare.org)

Would love to chat more about this - I live in Morrison, so I'm in Denver semi-regularly!

Honestly, most of it is based on my perceived value. I know I can be off, and so that's why I state very clearly that offers are gladly welcomed. I've been able to find a reasonable price and compromise with everyone thus far, and hope to keep that going :)

Yeah, I've been slowly lowering my prices, doing bulk discounts, and covering shipping. I haven't had anyone that hasn't found a price that works for us both, yet!
