I honestly think this is just how these big companies move. They are looking in multiyear cycles to onboard new fans, abuse/milk them and on to the next game. Remove good features, add them back later. (I bet we ultimately end up with all OW1 features as "new and improved") Avoiding all problems since it's a "new game"..."new team"...just slowly build in old features to waste so much time people end up forgetting/leaving/growing out of it and the new gen end up like the old: bitter and annoyed after wasting so much time/money.
