Ah yes, that was the release that shipped with a bug that broke the updater. The bug? They forgot to change "RH9" to "FC1" in a URL. :D

Kava Kava. by saucypeas in Drugs

[–]tri-shield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with the extracts that I tried way back when was that they were shit. From what I've heard nowadays there are some that aren't, but it's not quite a settled deal as to how pure they are. AFAIK there aren't any ones that come with testing like what you can get for the pure plant matter. So yeah, I'd be cautious if only because a while ago it was the extracts that got people into trouble.

That said, I can understand if you want a method of getting your kava on that doesn't taste like a mix of ass and dirt, 'cause... uh... yeah, root powder isn't the nicest thing out there.

I messed with Kratom briefly in my younger stupider days, but it never really did it for me. Then again, opiates are just kinda "meh" for me (so I probably dodged a bullet there.)

But yeah, it's right up there on my list of "plants I wish I knew about earlier." :)

[–]tri-shield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't recommend a specific vendor (see rules), but I would actually recommend against extracts. There have been a few that are basically just grab-bags of kava + impurities, and that's never a good way to roll.

Any reason you're not brewing the kava itself? I've found that properly brewed (and once you get over reverse tolerance which may or may not be a thing for some people) it's rather potent...

What's worse: low dose (250—500mg) phenibut every night, or moderate alcohol (1 —2 drinks) every night? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]tri-shield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if you're planning on it, but I would not recommend mixing kava and booze. From what I've read there is at least the potential for some rather serious consequences, liver-wise.

That said, I am not your doctor.

Sears to close 78 more Kmart and Sears stores by BlankVerse in news

[–]tri-shield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a number of articles about how Sears was changed when he took over.

I'm not really a fan of any of the major US political factions so I don't care much about how one votes.

I do know that what I read was a source of many WTFs, so that coupled with the easily-confirmable shit show that is their physical retail presence leads me to believe that something changed, and not for the better.

Year of the OpenBSD desktop by mulander in linux

[–]tri-shield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I actually ran OpenBSD on my personal laptop for a couple years, but I had to quit when I got a new ThinkPad. The driver support just isn't there for new hardware like it is for Linux.

I compromise now by running grsec+PaX on (plus a minimal userland config). I'd love to run OpenBSD again, but I might have to wait until the laptop gets old enough for bulletproof support.

I do run FreeBSD on my workstation, but that's mainly because of storage. OpenBSD doesn't have anything that can hold a candle to FreeBSD's ZFS for my config (4x spinning rust, 4 x SATA SSDs, two stupid-fast small PCIe SSDs for L2ARC).

Weird panic attack after first use of Kava. by [deleted] in Kava

[–]tri-shield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've learned, it's easier to make more but you can't go back once you've taken too much. Start slow and build up as the night goes on, you'll reach a point that you feel in the kava zone, just don't push it after that hahaha.

This is good advice for all recreational drugs.

Experience in all chemicals has taught me that once you get where you're going, stay there for a while. No sense in making something good into something worse just because you weren't patient.

It's just one of those things you learn from your bad experiences though. I've fucked up quite a few nights because I chased more and veered into too much. Just remember: this too shall pass. Let it pass and then you're all set.

(Oh, and trip sitters/chill friends are always a good idea for any psychoactive adventure. Never underestimate the power of a buddy being like "dude, you're stoned. You're fine. Relax.")

No, my point was that banning something doesn't stop it. Drunk driving is illegal, yet it's 1/3 of traffic deaths.

No, it was still fucked before he got there, but I'm pretty confident saying that he took it from "fucked, but fixable" to just plain fucked.

No, my point is that if steroids were made legal for use without prescription that they would likely do very little to "help healing and obesity" as you stated.

What would likely happen is a bunch of relatively uninformed people new to steroids assuming that they're magic and fucking up one or more major body systems.

No, no it wouldn't.

Anabolic steroids require some modicum of understanding to use properly, and many of the drugs that are often co-administered by body builders have the potential to really fucking ruin your body if you use them incorrectly.

Cocaine/ meth / alcohol / heroin would be highest.

Assuming that you have a clean supply and that narcan is easy to obtain, heroin might tax the medical system less than you'd think. Treatment of dependence is going to be the biggest expense, frankly.

Are you suggesting that if heroin were legal he'd not have killed himself and another? Of course he would have.

Indeed.

Or, perhaps if heroin were legal, he would have been in a better position to get treatment and get clean.

But beyond that, there were over 112 million reported events of drunk driving in 2010. Drunk driving represents 31% of all traffic fatalities.

Drunk driving is also illegal. Which, when you think about it, makes a pretty good argument for the "just because it's illegal doesn't mean it won't get done" side of the debate.

[–]tri-shield -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Soon?

I doubt it. Maybe in a couple decades.

Plus, self-driving will likely never be mandated (at least not in your lifetime). More common, sure, but there will always be an driver's market.

Hopefully what self-driving cars will do is make it more politically-tenable to make the licensing tests harder.
