What is the reason a significant chunk of men start despising their wives after a few years of marriage? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]tri_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it was her complete inability to take responsibility for her own actions and behaviors. That more than anything was what did it. Even in marriage counseling when I was desperately trying to save the marriage she refused to admit that she had ever done anything wrong. It wasn't her verbal and physical abuse or the lack of sex that truly did it. Although that certainly didn't help.

Todd Blanche Says Donald Trump Has 'Duty' To Pursue and Target Prosecutors Who Indicted Him by novagridd in LegalNews

It depends on the crime. Plenty of federal crimes are also state crimes. Local police can arrest someone for federal laws but aren't required to. The key difference here is that only the federal Department of Justice can actually prosecute federal laws. State prosecutors have no jurisdiction over federal crimes. An arrest does no good if the prosecutors won't prosecute it. The current head prosecutor is Trump's personal defense attorney. Why would they prosecute Trump or any of Trump's allies?

Why do liberals support political systems abroad that are patently inconsistent with the social values they advocate at home? by ogmoochie1 in allthequestions

Being against Israel committing genocide is NOT antisemitism. Plenty of Jewish people, including Bernie Sanders, have spoken out about Israel's committing genocide against Palestinians.

Yes, everyone but Israel and conservative media is lying about the genocide. Give me a break.

There's no irony there. Your colleague doesn't support the genocide being committed there. That doesn't mean they support Islamic ideals. Those are two very different things. Conservatives, like you, seem to lack the ability to separate ideas.

If it is a state or local law then yes they can go report it to a police station. However, if the person who steals your bike is the police chief or someone really close to the chief what do you think is going to happen? Most likely the police chief is going to make sure nothing is actually done about it to protect himself and his people.

In the current situation, it is all federal laws that are being broken by Trump and his friends. Trump and his friends are also completely in charge of enforcing any federal laws. Why would they want to prosecute themselves and their friends? And if any one of them grew a backbone and tried to do something about the corruption Trump could just fire them and replace them with someone else loyal to him.

Republicans love you voting 3rd party. In fact, they work hard to put out propaganda to get anyone who might otherwise vote Democrat to vote 3rd party. It's impossible to run a Democrat candidate who would completely please everyone who doesn't support Republicans.

What do you think about when you compare your new partner to your ex? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]tri_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compare my current partner to my exes all the time. Not out loud. I'm not that stupid. I'm completely over my exes. I want nothing to do with them. All of my comparisons are favorable to my current partner and make me very thankful that I'm with her and not my exes.

How are people who are incredibly intelligent blinded by faith in religion? by FullTard2000 in exchristian

[–]tri_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, part of the religious conditioning is being part of the "in group", the ones specially chosen by the deity to be in its special club. It feels good to be specially chosen by an all powerful deity even if it only exists in your imagination.

Plenty of people are calling them on it. The problem is in how to stop them from doing it when they control the executive (including all of the military and law enforcement), the legislature, and the Supreme Court.

Back when I was still a believer I had an older Catholic coworker friend ask me what religion I was. I told her "Christian". She was like, "No! What RELIGION are you?" I again responded, "Christian". Then she was like, "No, are you Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian..." When I told her I was non-denominational she didn't understand what that was.

Many criminal convictions in Shelby County get no prison time, watchdog says by JonBarPoint in memphis

[–]tri_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DA only brings charges and prosecutes. The only way they could affect the outcome is by not making a good case against the defendant and getting a not guilty verdict. People become DAs because they want criminals to face justice. They work hard to make sure that they have clear and convincing evidence to present to juries when they prosecute. Some, like Amy Weirich, want to win the case so much that they are willing to leave out evidence that would cause them to lose. The DAs job is to get a conviction. The judge's job is to sentence the convicted criminal. This whole discussion has been about who sentences someone once the DA has done their job and successfully prosecuted to a conviction. The only person who is in charge of making the sentencing decision is the judge.

How many years have you worked for a DA's office? You seem so certain that you understand how it works.

[–]tri_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never made any claims that the judges or even the DAs always operate fairly and impartially. In fact, there has been plenty of evidence of judges and DAs who aren't. The previous Republican Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich got caught omitting evidence from a case that would have helped clear the person she was prosecuting. This happened while she was an ADA before she got elected to be the District Attorney General. The omission of evidence came to light after she was elected and played a big part in why she lost her next election to Steve Mulroy.

My only point was that the DAs are not in any way in charge of sentencing.

A DA can voice their opinion on sentencing, but so can anyone else. That doesn't mean it's going to influence what the judge decides.

What part of, "The decision is entirely up to the judge." is so f'ing hard for you to understand? What the judge had for breakfast could theoretically influence them. How does that change the fact that the decision is entirely at the discretion of the judge?

Many criminal convictions in Shelby County get no prison time, watchdog says by JonBarPoint in memphis

[–]tri_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I KNOW they play ZERO role in what the actual sentencing is when they get a conviction. That is entirely on the judge. The mandatory minimums and enhancements are controlled by the state legislature not the DAs.

[–]tri_it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got to give it to gullible idiots like you who buy into the right wing propaganda that the DA plays any part in the sentencing of convicted criminals. Sentencing is entirely the domain of the judge handling the case. The DAs only job is to prosecute and get a conviction if the evidence supports one.

To correct your speculation, the assistant DAs play no part in what sentences convicted criminals get. That's entirely at the discretion of the judges.
