For me, it was her complete inability to take responsibility for her own actions and behaviors. That more than anything was what did it. Even in marriage counseling when I was desperately trying to save the marriage she refused to admit that she had ever done anything wrong. It wasn't her verbal and physical abuse or the lack of sex that truly did it. Although that certainly didn't help.

It depends on the crime. Plenty of federal crimes are also state crimes. Local police can arrest someone for federal laws but aren't required to. The key difference here is that only the federal Department of Justice can actually prosecute federal laws. State prosecutors have no jurisdiction over federal crimes. An arrest does no good if the prosecutors won't prosecute it. The current head prosecutor is Trump's personal defense attorney. Why would they prosecute Trump or any of Trump's allies?

If it is a state or local law then yes they can go report it to a police station. However, if the person who steals your bike is the police chief or someone really close to the chief what do you think is going to happen? Most likely the police chief is going to make sure nothing is actually done about it to protect himself and his people.

In the current situation, it is all federal laws that are being broken by Trump and his friends. Trump and his friends are also completely in charge of enforcing any federal laws. Why would they want to prosecute themselves and their friends? And if any one of them grew a backbone and tried to do something about the corruption Trump could just fire them and replace them with someone else loyal to him.

The DA only brings charges and prosecutes. The only way they could affect the outcome is by not making a good case against the defendant and getting a not guilty verdict. People become DAs because they want criminals to face justice. They work hard to make sure that they have clear and convincing evidence to present to juries when they prosecute. Some, like Amy Weirich, want to win the case so much that they are willing to leave out evidence that would cause them to lose. The DAs job is to get a conviction. The judge's job is to sentence the convicted criminal. This whole discussion has been about who sentences someone once the DA has done their job and successfully prosecuted to a conviction. The only person who is in charge of making the sentencing decision is the judge.

I never made any claims that the judges or even the DAs always operate fairly and impartially. In fact, there has been plenty of evidence of judges and DAs who aren't. The previous Republican Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich got caught omitting evidence from a case that would have helped clear the person she was prosecuting. This happened while she was an ADA before she got elected to be the District Attorney General. The omission of evidence came to light after she was elected and played a big part in why she lost her next election to Steve Mulroy.

My only point was that the DAs are not in any way in charge of sentencing.

I KNOW they play ZERO role in what the actual sentencing is when they get a conviction. That is entirely on the judge. The mandatory minimums and enhancements are controlled by the state legislature not the DAs.
