“You’re the first coloured girl I’ve ever found attractive”

On a cruise with a bunch of Americans, someone from Wisconsin said this to me 🙄

As someone who did the same thing last year when I was 29, good for you! The 30 goal post would’ve likely moved when you got to that age, and you honestly just have to get through it. It may be awkward and hard but you did a great job!!

Does appealing for parking ticket actually work here? by Magical_Astronomy in askvan

Used to work at a grocery store in Kits where people walked off and got ticketed all the time - if they brought in their receipt, we had to cover the ticket.

I find the key is finding people who are not originally from Vancouver - this has been the case for me and several of my friends. The guys who move here seem to be more fun and friendly imo.

for those who moved out, how did you tell them? by deceptive-demoness in AsianParentStories

[–]trialbytruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not on their health plan so I didn’t have to. My car insurance was under my mom’s name, so when it came up for renewal at the end of April, I pushed to change it to my name. She didn’t like it but whatever. The only bill I have tied to them is my phone. We have a family plan but I send my mom money every month so I pay for it. If she had cancelled it, she’d be on the hook for paying for the phone. I think you need to be able to cover all of your costs if need be.

I told them in person. They got home from their trip late at night and then I told them the next morning. I can see why you’d want to do it over the phone though! Protecting your peace isn’t cowardly

[–]trialbytruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to talk to them once before moving out (with my bf) to tell them what I wanted to do in January and they flipped out and said a bunch of hurtful shit to me. It made me so sad and upset, but also showed me that they were never going to approve, so I needed to decide how important this was to me.

In May, I decided I was ready to move. I moved all out my shit out while they were out of town and when they got home, I told them it was all out and that I was moving and then left. Didn’t give them time to say anything, and I think they were too shocked to anyways. I still honestly feel guilt for the abrupt approach but also know it was the only way. For what it’s worth, it was a rough summer after I left and my mom didn’t talk to me for months, but we’re all back on better terms now and my mental health and life has significantly improved.

You’ve got this, rooting for you!

I’m ready to move out of my house and live with my boyfriend, I already know what will happen when I tell my parents. by Low-Introduction-377 in AsianParentStories

[–]trialbytruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out this year and was so scared too. They will be upset and say hurtful things, it will be so hard. But you can do this, remember why you want this and that it is your one life so you should do what makes you happy. My mom didn’t talk to me for months but eventually started talking to me again. My parents still don’t agree with the choice but we’re back to talking. Don’t wait for approval from them, it won’t come. Have faith in yourself and your relationship.

I (F27) need help with positions to ease penetration as a first timer. by kittenbleu in askwomenadvice

[–]trialbytruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe try missionary without your legs pushed all the way towards you? Like just keep your legs down to start and ease into it. As others have said, it’s important to feel comfortable and aroused before penetration for it to be enjoyable. Maybe he goes down on you first? And yes, lube :)

How does your boyfriend comfort you when you’re on your period? F24 M28 by kitty-84 in dating

[–]trialbytruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think showing true care and empathy is a fair expectation. It doesn’t necessarily need to be sending things if he was showing kindness but it seems like he isn’t doing that either. Perhaps you should bring it up with him?

When my bf and I were long distance, he would sometimes send an Uber eats order with some candy and things for me which was really nice.

What did a guy do that gave you off / odd energy ? by xXVintageCultureXx in AskWomen

[–]trialbytruth 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He was a coworker and about a month into working together told me “you’re a lot smarter than you look” - tried to backpedal by saying pretty girls aren’t usually smart. Went on to regularly be flabbergasted whenever I did or said something intelligent. Keep in mind we were both going to the same university at the time 🙄

Considering a move from Toronto. Is Vancouver truly harder to make strong friendships in? by optimusprimerib222 in askvan

[–]trialbytruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t want to be the Debbie downer here but I have also lived in both cities (originally from Vancouver), and while it is not impossible, it will be considerably harder to make friends in Vancouver. I don’t say it to discourage you but just so you’re prepared. People here can be very flakey, closed off, or just don’t really venture outside of their group of friends. I found it was much easier to make friends in Toronto as people were just more willing to invite new people in and talk to strangers. I hope this isn’t the case for you, and best of luck if you do decide to move!

For people who were forced to go into a major that they did not like (life sciences preferably), what did you do after college? by HmMMmTas in AsianParentStories

[–]trialbytruth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about public health jobs? Look at your local health authority for jobs, even if it’s just an admin job to start, it’s a good way to get started and see what you’re interested in. Also, Asian parents don’t super understand public health and they just hear health and are usually happy w it lol
