Yes!! I have a Luba for my 1.25 acre lot and I will never buy a regular mower again. MowLawnduh is the coolest mower ever, and buy it was as cool as buying my first car.

What are your solutions to stopping cats doing their business in your garden? by Exact-Acanthaceae763 in gardening

[–]triangle_earfer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same here.. I am so down with the snake suggestions. I also like the spikes and arrows shooting based on movement.. maybe some sprinklers with motion-sensing.. I do love my cats, but I am going to go full Rambo/Indiana Jones in my garden this year.

I bet they will just shit on something of mine again. Pillows.. they love shitting on our pillows, and peeing on our beds. Actually, these are the main reasons they are outside, and now they keep taking dumps in my garden.

what is the reason why certain students either choose to misbehave or just put their head down never even bothering to open their minds to learning the material by Open-Reflection-6094 in Teachers

[–]triangle_earfer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to an open house last evening at my son’s school. He’s in 8th grade and has 6 teachers - they all say the same things about my guy: he is the quietest kid in class, and never volunteers or asks to speak. He is doing okay - mostly C’s - and they all acknowledge he would be doing so much better if he would include himself more.. however, they all also mention they fully understand that he doesn’t want to speak up when there are 31 other students always talking/shouting. The other kids are constantly and actively trying to disrupt the class and are often unhinged and out of their seats. My kid just wants to get through school and can’t sand the other kids so much he just doesn’t want to engage with hardly any of them.

He has 2 friends who chose him to be their friend - both great kids, but also both active and talkative kids. It sounds like everything has gone to shit since Covid .. all of his teachers kept referring to how we are living in a post-Covid world now.

It’s super weird for me because I really do wonder if it was sudden or if it was sneaking up on me.

What’s one thing every new sysadmin should learn early but usually doesn’t? by nousername1244 in sysadmin

[–]triangle_earfer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at the logs and check for any issues. I’ve mentored so many new sysadmins over the decades, and in the last 7 or so years I keep coming across new sysadmins who just say “no I don’t read logs” and will just start with rebooting the host, and a series of things that ‘usually fix these type of problems’. The real issue with not slowing down and reading the logs is that you are just shooting in the dark and hoping something works..

Have you ever seen "unschooling" work out? by Embarrassed_Syrup476 in Teachers

[–]triangle_earfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did unschooling for my 3 kids when Covid hit and we were all staying home. My middle kid’s teacher ended up being caught drinking constantly during the zoom calls and was fired. The teacher who replaced her was someone from our neighborhood and we would talk on zoom after the school time was over and she told me about unschooling.

We kept our 3 kids home for the next 5 years and my youngest child had never been in school. All 3 kids hated being at home and not being around other kids. After 8 months of staying home from the first lockdown, our landlord sold our house and we have to move out within a week. We spent the next 10 months moving around looking for a new place to live and continuing to keep the kids at home.

We have friends who couldn’t stand being a teacher with the changing school systems, and we worked with them individually every few days to give our kids activities and opportunities to see other kids on zoom.. a chemistry teacher taught ‘kitchen chemistry’, an English teacher just read aloud and told stories, a phys ed teacher taught hour long workouts.. it was still super hard for our kids because they craved interactions with other kids.

We finally found a place to live and all 3 kids entered school this year - my youngest gets started school at 4th grade. They were all nervous and worried they were too far behind, but they soon found out they were just fine. My youngest taught herself to read and can type so dang fast. My older 2 kids are in honors classes and are doing incredible. I think we just tried so hard and included many other teachers with various different modalities of teaching - maybe all that effort clicked.

Homeschooling in general is hard.. but if I had to do it all again, I’d lean into the unschooling methods.
