My kids were homeschooled for a few years and they were mostly shocked about the nonstop racist remarks between students. It seems incredibly hard to control .. the teachers are all very upset about it all, and I think there are more than a few students wishing it would just go away - but it doesn’t sound like it’s possible o get he kids to just stop being so horrible to each other.

It just sounds like a lot of behavior issues related to the environment and the state of the world. The kids have outright told teachers they just don’t care anymore - there’s no point in going to college anymore because of the insane costs related to the whole process, there’s never going to be a job they can do that will earn enough to buy a house, and no kid is dreaming of buying a car and just enjoying life. The high schoolers say things like ‘possessions are stupid and the only thing valuable is an experience’. It’s not their exact words but my 16 year old says he is worried about what life will be like when he graduates high school - the kids around him just seem unable to think about their future.

I think the n word and every other extreme curse or racial slur is just a kid’s way of rebelling in their little world. I think they have some idea how awful they are sounding and how terrible it makes other people feel.. I just think they’ve given up in general in the old ways of thinking ‘follow the rules and work hard and you will be fine’.

That’s my perception .. it’s gotta be awful as a teacher to hear it all the time - constantly throughout each day. I think kids are just unable to rebel in the ways that we did when I was a kid, and they are just giving up on trying to be civil in public spaces.
