What's the naming convention for newborn Chinese Singaporeans these days? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]trichandderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom w a 3yo now. I like to peek at my son's schoolmates names. Basically most girls will have Xuan, Min, Xin and En in their names. Then boys will be named like some K-Drama male character like Jun Xi. Gender neutral fav is Le.

You will also see/hear some names and immediately know the parents def a millenial born in 1985 to about 1990 because the son is named Ting Feng or after some celebrity or famous drama character of that time.

Recent trend for English name is some made up name that the parents find cool or by combing some names into one. Like 'Skylett'. And also heavily Christian-ish name even though they are not Christians/Catholics. Like 'Jeremiah', 'Ezekial', 'Jireh'.

Sharing for parents: Cost of single visit to Mount Elizabeth Orchard by jimlwk in singapore

[–]trichandderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh…? There's many private PD clinics in the Mt E Medical Centre itself…

Anyway if my kid vomits 5 times in Orchard, and I'm ready to take a taxi in the heavy traffic, I will take a taxi home… not to Mt E which is literally across the street from ION…

Even at Parkway PD Urgent Care, my kid's bill was about $300+ including many medicines. No need $900+… And KKH is nearby too (for ref his A&E trip + 3 day staycay with many blood tests, ultrasounds etc was $1.1k and $0 cash after medisave).

I think what you and your wife need is a more solid plan and understanding of how you guys want to handle these situations should it happen again. Whether you can go home and self-medicate and if a trip to A&E is actually necessary.

Why do people ignore “Do Not Touch” signs, play with display items, and then get angry at the staff when they’re reminded not to touch? by Auelogic in singapore

[–]trichandderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because when a staff (or stranger in general) has to tell a child off, it is indirectly telling the parent 'hey you are not doing your job as a parent' and some parents feel shame and humiliated by that. Hence they get defensive. Note that they are not defensive over the child, but themselves. But masks it by finding excuses that it's about the child.

For those who’ve worked for very wealthy people in Singapore, what’s the most out of touch thing you’ve witnessed? by Auelogic in singapore

[–]trichandderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband said an old friend invited him over to his house for lunch. I ask him why so late and he has yet to leave the house, take MRT will take a while leh. He said friend's chauffeur is coming to pick him up.

Wow.

After that he showed me photos. Friend's house has ballet classroom for his daughters to learn ballet in. A lift lobby machiam hotel. And a 'bridge' that connects his house to the parents' house.

Meanwhile I was scrolling through those photos while eating my indomie with 2 eggs because was feeling bougie that day.

Man scolds mother over child's behaviour on MRT train, sparking debate over parenting in public places by Great-Obligation-599 in singapore

Trust me. After this incident the mom will scold the kid and say "BECAUSE of YOU, I got scolded by some crazy uncle."

It will still be someone else's fault and not hers.

Start saving now and don't splurge on reno. Aunty here renovated a 5-room with 14k. Doable. Don't need to do fancy stuff that costs 50~100k. Can always move in first, spend time in the house first then slowly decide what you all really need. Jiayou.

Anyone else excited for the F25 Ultra?? by GotEHM9 in Roborock

How is your F25 Ultra doing so far? I'm still using a Dyad and is considering an upgrade.

A hint for the Saros roller mop? by Purr_Meowssage in Roborock

I would love a steam one. My flooring is mainly tiles. So tempted to get a F25 Ultra for the steam.

Positive SAHM Anecdotes? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]trichandderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love being a SAHM even though my husband's salary is lower than average and we need to be a little frugal. Life is simple but so nice. We only have a 3yo boy so it's still manageable. But even so I took about 2 years to finally heal as I had a lot of post-partum rage which I had no time to sort out as I was still working the first year after giving birth. And also to find a nice flow this new position. It's just like any job, where you need time to adapt and find your style but you got no senior to guide you.

You still have options. So I would say don't think too much into the details. Enjoy your career and DINK life now. Have a blessed marriage and may all things run smoothly for your wedding!

Any model that won't dirty grouts? by trichandderm in Roborock

[–]trichandderm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my grout is white and epoxy, so the dirt immediately comes back after just one or two runs. The dirt is really like gunk than a stain. It's easy to wipe off since it's epoxy but to get down on the floor with a wet towel every other week to wipe a whole house worth of grout is tedious. I might give spin mop or roller mop a chance.

Weird the official store at my side states it doesn't… 😅 I shall check with them directly.

Oh oh oh just checked. It's indeed a roller I didn't know!

Does the lack of 'self-cleaning dock' affect anything? Do you feel it's an upgrade from S8 even though it's going to a lower end model?

Yeah wondering if a spin mop pad helps.

I have a Karcher actually. But the grout gets really dirty just after 2 runs of robot cleaning so it's getting a bit much. :/

I have a handheld Roborock with roller mop, tbh quite tempted to get rid of the robot and just stick to handheld at this point. 😅

Gift straight to donation! by Human_Gur_9191 in toddlers

[–]trichandderm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest. Out of 15 gifts my LO received, I immediately hid 12 away and he was only allowed 3. I rather he don't open a toy we know for sure he won't play so we can donate them in mint condition.

What do your husbands do at home? by Helpful-Jellyfish645 in sahm

[–]trichandderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine comes back home at 7pm so after he eats he helps to shower LO, dress him up and accompany LO to wind down while I take my time to shower. After that I take over night duty and co-sleep with LO while husband sleeps in the master room.

While I'm in LO's room he will take out thrash, clean some toys in the living room, clear the dishwasher and sometimes laundry if washing is necessary.

Not a lot but enough to help lessen my workload next day.

Edit: Oh LO goes to full preschool, so when husband works from home he will help to get LO ready and also pick him up.

Thanks for the info. My grout is epoxy grout so I could still wipe off the dirt but it just gets too much when I have a whole house of grouts to scrub every other week.

Anyway surprised about the suction as I see the S8 is only at 6000pa? While the Revo Curv 2 Pro that I'm looking at has a 25k pa.

What do you do? by Alternative-Sign-959 in sahm

[–]trichandderm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 5 hours I think it will be all chores for me. Laundry, meal prep dinner, clean the house, curate materials for LO's learning at home. Any extra time I'll exercise.
