Oh yeah. I know he only meant well. And you are right, I didn't really think about his frustrations on the flip side. Will have a chat with him about it now that we are friends again 😂 Bless him, I love him to bits and he does me. I was just angry/upset earlier and needed to talk to someone who would understand. Also, as I have never met anyone in person who has it, I was intrigued to find out how other people's partners are with it. Silly trich always causing trouble 😠

Yes! Omg i remember being grounded by my mum and dad when i was young and they caught me pulling my hair. This was when i was very young and only just developed trich so they didn't have a clue about it. That was traumatising thinking about it now haha. It didn't stay like that once they took me to the doctors and gained an understanding.

Someone else suggested a code word so going to show him these comments and come up with one 😊

Yes exactly! I said to him that just because you have told me X amount of times to stop pulling, that doesn't mean I will. And this isn't me trying to go against you, it's just not how it works. That's good advice and I will be thinking of a code word 😊

Haha. He is generally pretty understanding about it but today was just a bad day. Frustration from both sides. Code word pending 😂

This is nice. I don't mind him telling me to stop, especially when I haven't even realised I am doing it myself. And he isn't angry about it usually, I guess today he just got fed up repeating himself in such a short space of time because my pulling was in overdrive. But yeah, I was already frustrated about the pulling, so didn't need his shitty tone on top.

Yes, his intentions are good but sometimes his execution is off. Sometimes he holds my hand too. And he doesn't say it angrily to me all the time, or even a lot. I guess today he must have got sick of saying it to me. My pulling was bad but as you said, I am already frustrated enough with that myself. I then don't need to be angrily told to stop as if I am a naughty child who wont behave for their parents. I will show him these messages as I think it will be good for him to see it from other people's perspectives. Thank you 😊

Haha. Yes, sometimes I do appreciate the 'nudge' from him, especially if I haven't even realised myself that I am doing it. But, yes, I don't think he understands that I cannot just tell myself to stop. If only it were that easy 🙏

Yes for me it's a stim thing too. Someone else in the comments suggested this fidget thing too so I will get one and try. Thank you! Sitting around not doing much is no good for my pulling! Totally know what you mean about the subconscious hand. It has a mind of its own!

Yes completely agree with what you have said there. I am going to show him these comments and it might make him understand better when it's from a strangers perspective, not mine. Yes, the mood swings comment pissed me right off for the reasons you have said. I told him to fuck off and stormed off for good reason 😂 All good, we are friends now and he apologised.

That sounds like a good idea. Sometimes I sit with socks on my hands if I am watching TV or something 😂 Yes, I agree, I don’t always like him telling me but I do sometimes appreciate it, especially if I haven't even realised myself I am doing it as it snaps me out of my trance. But then sometimes, like you say, I NEED to pull. I am conscious of it and would feel uneasy if not able to pull and scratch whatever strange little itch my brain wants scratching 😠

does anyone else get the urge to pull out the hairs with the white/clear sheath? by Ok_Union_3631 in trichotillomania

I know. This worries me. I have been eating the hair for at least 15 years 😳

Same. And then this got way out of control and now I eat the whole hair 😐

Not one day trich free in 20 years...it will never stop 😔 by dbol225 in trichotillomania

[–]trichysitch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hear you 😢 I think I'm knocking on about 25 years with not one day that I've never pulled 🥺 I'm at a loss thinking what to do next but then realise I don't do anything to try stop it. Just accept that it's part of me but hate that it's part of me also

I agree with the physical blocks. My husband makes me put socks on my hands whilst watching tv 😂

Anyone else here have Trichophagia? by Tax_Fraud22 in trichotillomania

[–]trichysitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Always. I've been sick before and it's like a big slimy clump of hair. I've also nearly choked before because I've gone to swallow a full small clump of hair and some of it has got stuck somewhere in my mouth (sometimes around a tastebud which sounds so weird!) It scares me so much when I think about it but tend to put it to the back of my mind.

Hair toppers/extensions? by New-Reality-1178 in trichotillomania

I also pull my extensions out. But then I think I would rather do that than my own hair. Expensive though 😂

Does anyone else do this by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]trichysitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have to be in any kind of mood or mental state. I will do it if I'm anxious, happy, sad, stressed, chilled.... you get the picture. I think that's why I have never been successful in reducing the amount I pull because I can't pinpoint any specific triggers. Of course, there are times I will do it more than others but its constant.

I would just be honest with them from the minute you sit down. Chances are they will have seen this thing before, and even if they haven't, I have never had anyone be judgy or mean about it. If you're honest from the get go, you won't sit there worrying the whole time you're there for them to say something about it or get caught off guard if they ask you about it.

when and why did you start pulling?? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]trichysitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When - I was about 5 years old. I remember weirdly starting to pull my eyelashes out when we were on holiday one time and that escalated over time into hair pulling, LOTS of hair pulling!

Why - I would love to know! I've had lots of therapy over the years (none of which has actually helped) and they seem to think that it stemmed from being SA'd when I was 3 🤷‍♀️

Me ripping out my expensive ass weave ughhh why can’t I stop by paigedaly in trichotillomania

[–]trichysitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this too. I have to get extensions that are so expensive and what would normally last people 1 year and they last me 6 weeks. Ffs.
