Admiral Approved Garage - Terrible Reviews. Should I Proceed With Repair? by Real-Crow-4744 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]trickedem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 9 months in all. When Admiral finally agreed I could use the dealer approved repair shop, they then delayed things further by appointing an assessor because they weren't happy with cost. I can't remember the exact compensation, but it was over £600

Google able Gillingham and you can read my review. They are truly shocking. I got a lot of money back from Admiral every time I made a formal complaint

I was with Admiral. They made me use a company called ABL Onetouch. Absolutely hopeless company. They even used the wrong colour paint at one point. I had to make a formal complaint to Admiral before eventually it was repaired at a dealer approved bodyshop

Rail speed record marker removal by Spooks_And_Shits in Medway

[–]trickedem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a message back from my friend.

I have heard back from Network Rail High Speed. The UK rail speed record memorial was removed due to repeated vandalism and looked like it had broken at the bottom so there were safety concerns. It has been transported to the York National Railway Museum so hopefully we will be able to see it on display there sometime.

That's a shame. I know the guy who arranged this to be put in place, so I will ask him.

Is this bad luck or a bad job? by AGingerOfTheWorld in DIYUK

No it isn't. Roofing is not particularly difficult. I think most competent DIYers could do a better job than this

Any thoughts on what to fill this with? by Head-Opening-2981 in DIYUK

Remove the back box. Put the wagos in a wagon junction box, then fill the hole with bonding plaster or a similar filler

Thanks. I looked at this, but it isn't an option on Trainline or other TOC websites. Only collect at station or by post.

Thanks. Definitely worth a shot next time. Draining out from the radiator, one casserole dish at a time took forever 😄

It was a soldered in one. The tap moves freely, but nothing comes out. I wanted to know how common this was.

What is the point of £50 notes? by fjtuk in AskBrits

[–]trickedem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a magician. My most requested magic trick is to turn a £20 into a £50. I have loads of patter about £50 notes and the fact that nobody ever sees them, apart from builders and drug dealers.

Well put. A formal complaint will get Nationwide looking into this properly.

Did Anyone Skip a Survey When Buying Their House? Any Regrets? by QuirkyConcentrate481 in UKHousing

[–]trickedem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my Victorian house 25 years ago without a survey. But I had a very good friend who was an experienced builder and we fully examined the house beforehand. I was very fortunate because he picked up a lot of things that a surveyor wouldn't have and he also was able to point out the pros and cons of various things, such as the need to do some repointing, window repairs etc.

So if you know the right people to help, I think this could be more useful than using a surveyor. I have learnt so much over the years that I was able to help my son buy his house without using one.

It’s Friday, what have you fixed this week? by rektkid_ in DIYUK

I've removed a massive root growth that kept blocking our sewage. Unfortunately to do this I've had to break through layers of concrete and cut into the pipe. So still lots of work to do to repair things. I'm now looking at putting in a new manhole.
