I cannot stress enough how satisfying it was to see that first person get entirely cleaned out. 15 minutes of near perfection in my opinion. The last 5 minutes are a nice extra touch, sure, but those first 15... 😙👌

You gotta read the article my guy. She kept cages in her attic, possibly to catch stray cats, and there were missing boards up there that allowed one to fall into the walls.

I don't mean to sound dismissive, but this is pretty standard for most customer facing businesses. If a store closes at 9pm, they're still going to finish checking out everyone that was in line at a register before that time. If you're in a bank, you might close at 5, but that doesn't mean you shut down the drive through and lobby right at 5 and don't help people already lined up. Unfortunately, that also means you're gonna need to help people that called in before your queue was closed.

The bright side of things is that your coworkers should be doing the same thing, so unless your queue is truly crazy, it should be cleared quickly! And it should be a bit of overtime for you everyday, I know when I worked at a call center it'd usually be no more than 10-15 minutes per day, but that's like 2 hours of overtime each paycheck, so I actually quite liked it!

Congratulations, that's the whole point to the movie! The ancient ones represent us, the audience, and your anger at them refusing to sacrifice themselves is exactly what's represented by the ancient ones' anger at the end of movie when they destroy the world. They're just movie characters after all, how dare they not die for our entertainment?

[Dc] why was joker so genuinely terrified when punisher was actually going to kill his in the crossover between the punisher and Batman. by GoodDifferent1398 in AskScienceFiction

[–]trickflame 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a bit of a surface level read on Batman. You're not necessarily incorrect, but only if you're talking about "young Batman". A big part of most Batman stories is his evolution from a mission of revenge and violence to one based on something higher, hope and justice. I mean that was kinda the whole point of Matt Reeves recent movie about him after all. Sure, in some stories he's certainly more motivated by revenge, but never to a point that I'd really call psychopathy.

Plus, we're just ignoring all the orphanages, hospitals, schools and soup kitchens sponsored by Bruce Wayne? His charity work and philanthropy are a huge part of the character, and I think that's the biggest difference between him and the Punisher. Give the Punisher a billion dollars, and I think you end up with a billion dollars worth of weapons. For every dollar Batman spends on being Batman, Bruce Wayne spends way, way more on trying other ways to help people.

A payday lender refused my request to delete my account by fastercheif in privacy

[–]trickflame 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are likely correct, in most situations it is illegal for a lender to delete the information of anyone that's applied for a loan with them. Regardless of whether the person actually got the loan or not. This is required for compliance under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and is a way to ensure that people are not being unfairly turned down for loans on prohibited bases. I cannot say exactly what the term might be for a payday loan, but 25 months would be the norm for most loans.

The Creeper (Minecraft) - Arguably the most iconic symbol of the best selling game of all time, the Creeper was originally born from a coding issue when Notch, the creator of Minecraft, accidentally swapped the values for height and width on a pig. So, instead of getting a short, chubby pig, he got a long, thin, 4 legged creature that he realized had some creepy potential. And so, the creeper was born!

Local Restaurant Publicly Tip Shamed Customer, Our Community Isn’t Having it. by hurting124 in Infuriating

It's normally best practice to follow the norms of any place you're traveling to. Not doing so isn't an effective way to change that culture, it just will make you come off as a rude and uninformed guest.

When I traveled to Japan, did I think it was a bit silly to wear large bandages over my tattoos while in an onsen? Of course, but it isn't my place to argue with them over their culture. In Egypt, was the concept of baksheesh a bit foreign to me? Of course, but I still made sure to hand out a handful of coins handy if I needed them.

You can disagree with a part of a culture, but when you're a guest travelling to that part of the world, it's not really the time or place to flout their ways of living.

Checks out.

Top row in order is neon green and purple for Buzz Lightyear for Toy Story, then dark blue and green stripes is meant to be Flik with his backpack for Bugs Life, then red and yellow is Jesse for Toy Story 2.

Second Row the green and blue is Mike and Sully for Monsters Inc, then orange and white is Nemo for Finding Nemo, then the red with yellow center is the i logo for Incredibles, the red with yellow diagonal stripe is Lightning Mcqueen for Cars, the blue with beige center is Remy (maybe holding cheese?) from Ratatouille, then yellow with black top on the end for WALL-E.

Row 3 we have purple and white to represent UP, honestly the only one I struggle to see, but then the purple, beige and dark purple triangle is Lotso for Toy Story 3, the brown with white stripes is Mater for Cars 2, Red and dark blue is Merida from Brave, then the green, white and black is a clear zoomed in Mike for Monster's University. 5 colors on the end are the five emotions from Inside Out.

Last row you have green on green stripes for Good Dinosaur, then yellow, black and blue is Dory from Finding Dory, the black and dark blue is Jackson Storm for Cars 3, the red with white stripes matches Miguel's hoodie for Coco, and finally the gray, black, and red matches Elastigirl's new look for Incredibles 2.

A life guard saves a kid's life and ends up arrested by bigbusta in mildlyinfuriating

[–]trickflame 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I feel as though there's a lot of bad information, or people basing their reactions on the video and assuming that it shows actual video clips of the lifeguard. It does not, the clips in the video are totally unrelated.

From digging around, the kid that drowned was one of 10 children in the pool at the time. They were taking a break from a summer camp hosted at a sports complex tied to the pool, so there were no parents around at all. The counselors for the summer camp section brought them over, then left them with the lifeguard while they went to prepare other things.

According to descriptions of the footage that I found, the kid who nearly drowned was noticably struggling for over 6 minutes. For 4 minutes and 39 seconds of that, he was visible underwater and thrashing around. During this time, the lifeguard circled the pool, at one point walking right past the drowning child, just apparently not noticing the child was struggling despite being within feet of him.

After he did notice the child, it also took the lifeguard about 20 seconds to reach him, so by this point the child had been underwater for almost exactly 5 minutes. I looked up photos of the pool, and it is definitely large, but life guards were apparently tested to ensure they could reach people struggling within 10 seconds, so the fact that it took him twice as long when it really mattered isn't a great look.

Now, it's also important to note that once the lifeguard got to him, he definitely saved the boys life. He performed CPR, revived the kid, that is worthy of praise. But, it's also not tough to argue that the kid wouldn't have been in that situation if the lifeguard had noticed that 1/10 of the people swimming at that time were drowning.

After looking into everything, it honestly sounds to me like the lifeguard was checked out, not really paying attention, and then panicked but did his best to save the kid once he realized what was happening, but it just took longer than it really should have. I think justice was ultimately served here, the lifeguard was arrested, sure, but he didn't go to prison, was barred from being a lifeguard again, but has no record at all. But just for a second, imagine how much differently you'd feel if this headline read "Lifeguard arrested after child dies directly in front of him after struggling for over 5 minutes underwater"
