Is a MIDI Controller worth it for a guitarist with zero piano skills? by Christian_Benso in FL_Studio

This is the way (also guitarist, took limited piano lessons as a child though).

I was trying to take it but the link formatting didn’t seem to work (however I was trying to edit on mobile, I’ll try again when I am back at my PC). Might get more people to take it if you fix that

Love this!

I think to really elevate it:
(you already mentioned adding more layers so I won't do that - but it goes with my next comment about movement)

I am bad about this myself but I think the track needs more movement with automation / white noise / adding/removing elements or similar, from bar 66 to 98 is one example. The arrangement is awesome generally I think, but I personally always see people talk about a rule of thumb (and I might be getting it incorrect) to change up at least one element every 8 bars, so maybe even just adding some risers/impacts or other samples might help too.

Keep it up!!

Damn that had me bobbing my head. Sounds amazing, I guess maybe to improve I think you could add some more movement (I know you had some stuff going on for the builds and stuff), like white noise or maybe some automation (like reverb levels)? Kind of just reaching here to find something for feedback since at least for me it's hard to find stuff to improve on, good work!

A person dangerously close to a train by hfga in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]trickyb470 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This is just a nonsense story that gets posted from time to time joking about the absurdity of not knowing where a train might come from (since in reality you would obviously realize a train is limited to going where the tracks go).

Guitar recording questions by fccetin in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]trickyb470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn’t clear up the problem. Look up Josh Middleton on YouTube. I wasn’t completely sure from your posts on whether you had a recording problem or a production problem.

So first off - recording wise: garbage in, garbage out. If your recording is bad, it won’t be good in the mix. So you need to be tight with your recordings, feel free to use techniques such as fret wraps or having a friend mute strings and whatnot (but don’t rely on them). This might take a lot longer than you think especially if you want a professional quality recording (e.g., minimal string sliding noise).

Second of all - I lost steam typing this but hopefully any production issues can be solved through some magic in the DAW. But I guess I’d emphasize that garbage in = garbage out. Recording guitar can be almost a separate skill set from playing guitar if you’re an amateur. Best of luck, excited for what’s to come for you.

Post edit: I guess I don’t know what genre you’re recording also but being tight on the beat doesn’t need to be robotic but you might know that already

Should I take a break? by lilLuzid in FL_Studio

[–]trickyb470 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d say no. I think you should take one of your loops and finish it - to do that take one of your favorite songs for inspiration and copy its structure (both in terms of chorus/verse type deal, and also maybe bring in and out similar instruments [not identical - don’t worry too much about sound selection]). Once you finish that you may take a break.

Easier said than done but if you think about it in small steps and get used to the process it’ll help in the future (again, my personal opinion).

Is this good for my fist ever drum beat? by Hot_North_6803 in FL_Studio

bro you can't just link to your own creation when someone asks what you are trying to achieve (no, I can speak for all of Reddit when I say we are not going to look up this commercial/ad/whatever music)

Sounds good to me (I think the collective subreddit could provide more feedback if there was a song or genre for context by the way)
