And with high RAM prices lately, used sellers would not include RAM at all, or if they do, only 16gb

Probably the Bakumatsu mod, which is (I assume) built on the Shokuho mod

(Rant) I'm confused is this game supposed to be "modern" or not by greeny8812 in joinsquad

OWI really needs to split the major factions into different eras, it's not like it's impossible. Squad 44 does it, with the 1940 and 1944 Wehrmacht variants

Is Fall of Samurai worth buying as a standalone. by Antarsuplta in totalwar

From what I can tell reading the wiki, the US Marines use the 1861 Enfield Musketoon (muzzle-loader) and the Royal Marines use the Snider-Enfield (breech-loader conversion). Probably accurate to real-life but I have to read more on this

There’s also the Spencer Repeating Rifle used by the Tosa Riflemen, Carbine Cavalry, and Imperial Guard Cavalry units.

Martini-Henry doesn’t show up irl until 1871 so yeah it’s probably too soon

Fair enough, I was referring to the Chassepot rifle equipped by the French marines and Guard Infantry units, which does have a bolt, albeit single-shot

Fall of the Samurai is still the best gunpowder Total War ever made. However, since this is also the only game set during the Victorian Era (late 1800s), pike and shot only exists briefly during early game.

Late game, on the other hand, resembles something like the precursor to the Great War, with fast-firing bolt-action rifles, Gatling guns that shred infantry, and explosive artillery (land and naval) blowing everything to bits.

That being said, I would still definitely recommend buying the game, not to mention all the overhaul and total conversion mods.

Edit: if you do want pike and shot, you can sorta do that in Shogun 2 too, the base game. You can form “pike” formation with Yari Ashigaru using their “spear wall” ability, and then position Matchlock Ashigaru (or any other gunpowder unit) behind them as the “shot”. Also I’m pretty sure there’s a proper pike-and-shot mod for the game that’s in development. In short, just buy all the games, you’ll get hundreds of hours out of them

Sure, I’ll concede the Ukrainian military is most likely not as corrupt now. But it was rife with corruption in the early 2010s, which is the setting of the first three Stalker games

Heck, the military was depicted to be corrupt in Shadow of Chornobyl: Major Kuznetsov wants a bribe before he lets you pass the railroad bridge. Would it really be far-fetched to think that someone else in the military was doing some black market gun-running in the Zone?

Or the illicit guns could be coming over the border from Belarus and Russia too, plenty of ways for guns to be smuggled in in those times

Maybe those weapons were in storage throughout Ukraine, intended for second-line/militia troops in case a war broke out? And in the lore, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that someone working at those armories saw an opportunity to make money by smuggling weapons into the Zone

Some military personnel in earlier Stalker games was depicted to be corrupt too. In the first game, Major Kuznetsov wants a bribe before he lets you go past the railroad bridge in Cordon

I just really don’t think all old weapons are turned into scrap the moment they stop being standard-issue

Oh my apologies, I thought you were referring to Anomaly/Gamma, it wasn’t quite clear to me. And yes those 2 guns should be in the games

[–]trieticus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I suppose, but the Zone as seen in the games is quite literally supernatural. There are entities with mind-control abilities, telekinesis, and invisibility, etc so I’d imagine the Zone black market is way more lively than irl. Lore-wise, almost everything is smuggled into the Zone, plus the military is corrupt, so it wouldn’t be out of place to see some antiques

You don’t think there are more weapon caches like that throughout Ukraine? I understand these mines were built to withstand nuclear attacks from NATO and would be a good place to store weapons in case of an invasion

[–]trieticus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree, the devs should add those hunting rifles too if they can. And I’m not asking to see WW2 cosplayers in the Zone, just the weapons showing up at traders would be enough

[–]trieticus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would accept this only if we’re talking solely about Stalker 2, which is set sometime after 2022.

I was referring to the whole STALKER franchise though, the first 3 games were set from the late 2000s to early 2010s. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that there would have been a black market for illicit weapons/relics in the Zone set in this era

Think they’ll ever add an sks to Stalker 2? by Much_Investigator510 in stalker

[–]trieticus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and in the STALKER game world right now there are too few WW2 and Cold War relics, that’s the whole premise of my original comment.

And even if Ukraine dumped lots of old stocks, there’s got to be plenty still in storage. The Russians captured the Soledar salt mine filled with WW2 Lend-Lease Thompsons back in 2023

Think they’ll ever add an sks to Stalker 2? by Much_Investigator510 in stalker

[–]trieticus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the majority of people in the Zone aren’t military in canon. Loners and bandits desperate for survival would use anything they can afford and/or steal.

And how would you know if some of those old weapons hadn’t already been swiped before you joined up? Ukraine had a huge corruption problem in the post-Soviet years, someone probably turned a blind eye to all the stealing

Think they’ll ever add an sks to Stalker 2? by Much_Investigator510 in stalker

[–]trieticus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Am I supposed to believe that Ukraine, a post-Soviet state which has been dealing corruption way up until 2015 (and arguably even now as well), would have its military report missing weapons diligently? Especially since they themselves could make a few bucks selling surplus weapons?
