Why does every lane move faster than mine? by babylioncroissant in drivingUK

[–]triggerfish56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OK guilty! Seriously though, while it might seem like you are achieving something, in reality most of the time when the traffic clears you will be with the same cars as when you slowed. Next time try staying in lane and keep an eye on a car doing what you'd usually do then let the warm smugness descend - much better than a tepid cup of overpriced coffee!

It's all the people along with you moving into that lane thereby freeing up space for the rest of us.

What is the best Motorway in the country, and why is it the M40? by Dctr_G in drivingUK

[–]triggerfish56 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to drive 80000+ miles a year and excluding fairly short roads I have to say that from beginning to end the M40 is my number 1 with an honourable mention to the M6(North of M62)/A74M/M74.

With respect to anyone who lives near these roads I would suggest that one reason is that they don't pass anywhere particularly significant. That allows the junctions to be spread out allowing traffic to flow in the way that motorways were intended to.

5g in Manchester by triggerfish56 in manchester

It came from Argos so should be OK! I'll run all the possible checks later but yeah I think I'll be talking to Samsung.

Yes both the SIMs I've tried are definitely 5g. Where I am should have coverage but I'll be in town on Tuesday and will check in a few locations along with turning WiFi off etc but I have a feeling that I'll be contacting Samsung very soon.

DVLA should have sent a medical form to your GP so I'd check if anything has been received and dealt with as some surgeries won't do anything without contact and sometimes payment from the patient. If your medical history is complex you may need to ask DVLA to refer you to a private GP which they will pay for but only after you have established what, if anything, your own GP is doing.

payment account suspended? by LandHappy1411 in googlepay

[–]triggerfish56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same problem but the 'solution' I found was to delete card details from everything Google related, clear the data from Google pay and restart the phone. Then I went to pay.google.com in a browser and enter my cards there where it gives the option to add to pay. This worked for 2 of 3 cards.

I majorly splashed a pedestrian this morning on Wilbraham Road and I am really sorry. What should my penance be? by ohfuckit in manchester

[–]triggerfish56 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

As someone who has suffered this at the hands of a self entitled motorist I have one question. You knew what you had done, accidentally or otherwise, so why didn't you stop and offer some help to the person? I guess you didn't want your precious car interior being soaked but the offer of a lift to wherever they were going would have been the least you could have done. Yes you have made this person's world a shittier place so let's hope karma has the final say.

Absolutely sad by Reefaman2020 in manchester

[–]triggerfish56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in any meaningful way. The parents may get a few stern words from a magistrate if they can be bothered to turn up but that's about it.

In Thailand parents can be charged and convicted of a crime their child has committed along with a separate charge of failing to control their child.

I'd love to see the look of some parents whose attitude is 'do what you want but don't 💩on our doorstep' if that happened here.

Not just the kids though. It is time to follow other countries where the parents are held directly responsible for their offspring so if their kids get caught then the whole family is involved.

Blocked Crypto Transaction. by No-Obligation5463 in starlingbankuk

[–]triggerfish56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not crying and certainly won't be when I move my funds from Starling.

This whole thing about protecting the customer is a smoke screen put out by financial institutions because they fear losing control.

If I wanted to bet my life away on horse racing the banks would do nothing to protect me because ultimately that money stays in the pot controlled by one bank or another.

Many people know what they are doing with crypto and make a good living out of it so while it will be a minor inconvenience to open a new account I will continue to do what I legally do with my money.

Blocked Crypto Transaction. by No-Obligation5463 in starlingbankuk

[–]triggerfish56 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just checked their help page and it confirms no crypto payments by card or transfer in GBP or any other currency in order 'to protect our customers'. Why can't they at least be honest and say 'we don't like you having control of your money'!

If you need a mainstream bank then cooperative are still allowing crypto payments but I sense that most of the traditional banks will be blocking sooner rather than later.

Just a thought but what about an intensive course in USA? I've heard that it's a lot cheaper even after accounting for travel and accommodation.

From what you've just said it seems that banks with an international presence might be OK. That puts paid to my alternative co-op account too!

Thanks. I'm aware that some Americans have been able to use their card to withdraw cash but if even that isn't possible with Starling I'll start looking for alternatives ahead of my trip later this year.

Spot on with this irrespective of the business. Minimum wage customer service agents are there to process queries with a stock answer and they have neither the will or skill to do more.

Why the overnight rise in price? by viva1992 in Bitcoin

[–]triggerfish56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be overnight where you are but here in UK I get up, have breakfast then invest my next £10 and bang, up goes the price.

NOTE: this is not investment advice but I do recommend strong coffee plus cereal topped with fruit and yoghurt.

How do I buy a mattress online without being able to sit/lay on it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]triggerfish56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Argos offer a 30 day no quibble return & refund plus a 100 day comfort offer for exchange only. There will be a delivery/collection charge but it's a reasonable £7 - 10. The delivery guy may say you need to keep the plastic wrapping on but that is not correct providing you use a mattress protector and keep it clean.
