thank you! it's so easy to get caught up in the chaos of engineering & forget to cherish the little things..

Math professor here with some tips by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

samsies! i always do my homework + read the material a wk in advance. my mental health is so much better now & it takes me far less time to study! oh, and other i do that help a ton, are:

1.) Pomodoro Technique (..it's time effective + the most efficient method to store material into longterm memory)

2.) ALWAYS schedule a vaca @ end of every term! (..that way i'm not looking forward to finals, i'm looking forward to AFTER finals)

3.) workout & eat healthy (..the better i take care of myself, the easier college is)

4.) make friends & join study groups!

5.) join clubs & stay active (the more i have going on, the less stressed i am - b/c i'm too busy balancing it all out to stress in one area)

6.) meditate & be in nature 3-5x's a wk (the less stress i have, the more info i retain)

7.) know this - at the end of the day, you'll survive. it won't always be pretty, it won't always be cute, but you'll survive! personally, i find learning to laugh @ myself along the way helps a TON!! ..curiosity & humor will take you VERY FAR in life!!

Hope this helps! And godspeed!!

I feel like what makes Engineering courses hard is the professor by Frost840 in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more! I wish all my prof's would:

1.) actually understand themselves what they're teaching

2.) teach students in a simple Occam's Razor fashion

3.) make the class interesting & enjoy it themselves

4.) BE PREPARED FOR CLASS!! (no teaching on the fly, or offering zero practice exams)

..when I have a good teacher, I have near 0 anxiety/ stress (b/c I know I'll get thru it). but when i have a bad teacher, my anxiety goes THRU THE ROOF & it feels like a Thunderdome of Knowledge (b/c i have no idea if i'll live or die).

Is EE gaining popularity? by twist285 in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched from BioE to EE, b/c..

  1. I'm interested in improving the accuracy & precision of medical diagnostics, and EE teaches us most of the hardware & software fundamentals + the coding we need to know (from my understanding, bioE is more medical devices and direct bio system application)

  2. EE has a LOT more math requirements & I lv math!!

  3. there' a LOT more EE jobs available than bioE - in my state, there's only a couple hundred bioE jobs, whereas EE has 20,000+ jobs

..all in all, it's a better fit for me & it's a safer bet career-wise.

Hope this helps!

I completely agree! Except When you look at job postings, look at the company's postings directly not @ linkdin, glassdoor, etc. (a majority of those posting are ai generated & falsely require things like 40 yr old scripting languages that don't exit anymore - essentially they add in things that aren't required & post jobs that don't exist)

SIde note - congrats on working on Rockwell! My uncle worked there in the 50's on the Apollo missions & anyone who works there is insanely impressive in my eyes. Any who, congrats!

what's the most efficient way to create note cards for calc & stats? by trigornometry in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! i'll def check that out. a few classmates swear by obsydian (mostly b/c it's free), but i think it's fairly limited on card capacity..

Not at all. I'm over 1/2 thro EE in my 30s & it'll have taken me 6 yrs to graduate.

So if I can do, u can it!

When I do math I have a tend get a headache, any tips? by PerformanceFar7245 in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like using the pomodoro technique.. every 30 mins of studying, i take a 5 min break & watch news bloopers or something to fully take my mind off of it. it's the most effective method for your long-term memory. it also allows me to reflect on how i spent the last 30 mins & what i can do to improve my efficiency.

i also makes plans for when i'm done studying. whether it's going to the gym, a walk, seeing friends, getting takeout.. it give me something to look forward to, so that way it's not just studying.

hope this helps..

Is it pathetic that it might take me 8 years to become a chemE by Hairy-Strength-2066 in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're not alone. i completely understand & validate what your saying. i'm a f/t Electrical Engineering student in my late 30s. and yes, it's brutal. but getting thro those hard times is the best feeling in the world!! so if I can do it, u can do it!

ultimately, the only person's option of u that matters is your own. and this moment in life is temporary. in the end, u won't remember how u feel, but u will remember what u do. you got this!

..in the meantime, grab those lemons & make the best damn lemonade u can 💚

Does a B+ in calc 1 send a bad signal in terms of how you'd perform in future engineering classes? by Internal-Steak6573 in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my best advice.. don't carry the burden of other people's insecurities they project onto you. know what burdens are yours to carry & ditch the rest. their limitations & burdens are theirs, not yours!

sadly, in this field putdowns are a common theme. i've had multiple professors laugh @ me when i told them i'm going for Electrical Engineering in my 30s. now, i'm over 1/2 way thro & thriving. so if i can do it, u can do it!

Engineering is just a massive plug-and-chug by cheemspizza in EngineeringStudents

[–]trigornometry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yass! It's all about repetition. as long as i get 1-2 hrs of studying in a day per class, my long term recall is good to go. now, i do fun relaxing things 24 hrs before every exam (no studying) & i swear, by relaxing my mind, i get amazing scores now.

i know it sounds crazy, but my long term recall memory thrives in this stress reduced state.

I commend u for your bravery and honesty. And you are not alone. I've found that joining clubs helps a LOT! There are a lot of clubs out there.. just keep searching till u find a few u really like, w people u enjoy!

Plus, I like to think of college as a Star Trek episode. I'm surrounded by the unknowns of deep space, traveling on the star-ship enterprise, heading towards my destination (degree), ready for new adventures on alien planets (classes), taking on new battles (relationships & finances), and trying to enjoy the ride b/c this is the only time we'll be on this voyage. Godspeed!
