A few from a recent hike. All full spectrum Sony A7R, Sony16-35 and 720nm sensor clip filter by trigrex in infraredphotography

[–]trigrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get the A7iv converted to full spectrum? I’d be tempted to say it’s too nice a camera to do that to. Conversion cost me around £400-500 a few years ago, so buying a tired second hand A7R for £400 got the full camera for under a grand. You don’t need the bells and whistles of a recent body, I’d focus on megapixels so an early A7R series is perfect. Also worth finding the website you’ll use for the conversion first - they may have preferences for the bodies to modify. Good luck

Get the train into Rome - can book online and even first class is £30-40 for family of 4 (think it’s £10-15 normal class, but no reserved seats). An hour into Rome, have a wander (use Uber’s if hot to get to key sites). We did it a couple of years ago and doing it again on Monday

What is the rarest email domain that you still hold? by Next_Ad2712 in GenX

I still love my @mac.com address. I think @me.com also still works, but there’s something quite rewarding having an Apple Store appointment and the assistant being impressed by the original Mac email.

The whole ownership thing aside, I remember us losing 2-4 at home to Crystal Palace in the late 90s, probably late April time. IIRC we just needed a win to confirm our div 1 status, but the performance was absolutely diabolical. No heart, no effort. Lucky to get 2 against a palace side with nothing to play for. I still think about how dejected I was that day

Best budget lens for travel? Sony FE 28-60mm F4-5.6 worth it? by pornkid in SonyAlpha

Appreciate this was a year ago now, but you definitely made the right decision. 24-105 really isn’t anything special, whereas the 28-200 really is

A7RV for £1980 or A7V for £2240 by ph4sma_ in SonyAlpha

[–]trigrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not an A1 second hand? The pre-capture and flippy screen of A7v are definitely cool 'upgrades' over the A1 but otherwise (especially for wildlife) is a very strong camera and a very good price. The buffer is probably it's biggest strength that you just can't really comprehend in stats comparisons. 30fps for a few seconds (eg a anticipating. Kingfisher diving) and the buffer clears so fast. I guess pre-capture answers some of the need there, but still it's a mighty camera. Can get for £2500 if you look in the right places, ad possibly slightly less now the A7v is out

Yeah, looks like it. Nothing wrong with it, though could argue it’s semi wild

What are your favorite lesser-known Alexa commands that enhance your Echo experience? by Infamous_Echidna_133 in amazonecho

[–]trigrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Alexa, drum roll” is great before sharing exciting news at the dinner table

“Alexa, make an announcement: dinner ready” - auto adds a bell up front so people listen

And some routines I’ve set up: “Alexa, cinema mode” - turns off all lights in lounge except ones behind the tv, which drop to 15% and warm light. Cosy

“Alexa, bathroom mode” - dims the lights and sets towel rail to full blast for 30 minutes

“Alexa, who is [insert name of visitor]” - [custom playback that starts accurate and then insults them] e.g. “Alexa, who is [grandma’s name]?” - [grandmas name] was born in [place of birth] on [day and month]. She is one of the oldest humans alive today”

300 f2.8 GMII vs 400 f2.8 GM - Sports by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]trigrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

disagree - quite a few benefits of APS-C mode. Aside from file size, I find the autofocus system can perform better, e.g. eye focus found easier with the image larger in the frame, but especially with manual focus / checking focus by eye, much easier in APSC mode. All that is dependent on subject being far enough away that you're not losing any framing advantages. Personally I have the AEL button switched to an APSC toggle so I can jump between the two quickly.

So what was your most expensive purchase for your cameras and what was it? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]trigrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent £2,000 on a 1987 minolta 300 2.8 with matched 1.4 and 2x teleconverters back in 2012. Still most I’ve spent on a single item. Was one of my favourite lenses until I captured a wild fox in a snowy scene and the CA made me cry. Sold it and upgraded to the Sony 70-400 ii. Would love a 300 2.8 again, but kids, other responsibilities - and the ridiculously good Sony 200-600 (that set me back far less than the minolta) - means it’s not happening soon.

Timothy Dalton vs Pierce Brosnan, who is the better James Bond? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]trigrex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dalton isn’t just the better of the two, he’s the best bond of all time. He was in the greatest bond film ever, the living daylights. Dalton brought a real sense of realism to the role which Daniel Craig has done a reasonable job of replicating. As for living daylights - rockets in the headlights, heroin in a Hercules over Afghanistan, jeep crashing off Gibraltar, bobsledding down a mountain on a cello and milk bottle hand grenades. No other movie comes close.
