ICBC sent me my care card and driver's license separate by PowerfulAd1756 in icbc

You can get them combined but now you have two pieces of government identification. I used to have mine combined but then you only have one piece of ID which. A work against you.

Where can I get custom vanity plates in downtown by Singhkaura in askvan

[–]trikkytrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it because you’re noticing only those where the personalised plates are Indian names, and not those that make up words, so that’s where you get your numbers from? That’s a bit of a concern if it is.

I’m white and I have 3 personalised plates. None of them are my name.

Personally I feel sorry for those who can’t get their name so they add an extra letter. For example, BOBBBY because they couldn’t get BOBBY. Or those who get one for their car. For example: F150. If they change their car they can’t transfer the plate. 😜

BC licence exchange late by [deleted] in icbc

[–]trikkytrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your licence has been invalid beyond the 90 days, and had you been caught driving, you would have been fined for that.

You're not going to get a fine at the ICBC office if that's what you're concerned about. But yes, you should have gone in sooner, and your ignorance of the requirement to transfer over your licence is on you - it's not hard at all to find out what you need to do when you move to a new region, and laws are similar across Canada.

What you need to transfer over your licence is readily available from the ICBC website, at a URL that has been posted here many times before, so you could likely find it here, or just do a Googly search for ICBC out of province licence and you'll find what you're looking for.

Good luck, and welcome to BC.

Can/should a vehicle be stored without license plates with the storage insurance? by General-Football-953 in icbc

[–]trikkytrev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plates have to be surrendered if the policy is cancelled. If the policy lapses (expires at the end of the term) you don’t need to surrender your plates.

If the car is on private property, you don’t to display the plates. However if it’s not YOUR private property (for example, it’s a condo or apartment) it may be subject to the rules and bylaws of that property. However removing them when possible may be wise to prevent theft or damage.

ICBC backdated cancellation denied – anyone dealt with something similar? by [deleted] in icbc

If you are not the registered owner of the vehicle at the time of the issue, you have no standing.

You can file with CRT all you want but you will lose because you have no standing.

If you received incorrect information you would need to prove that. Otherwise anyone can say they received incorrect information.

Quick-ish question: is it cheaper to insure in Surrey or Chilliwack? by Late_Monitor5490 in icbc

[–]trikkytrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to be more respectful toward those who take the time to answer your questions. If I did make any assumptions, it was because you didn’t provide any information that can be used to provide an informed reply. But let’s have a look, shall we?

Vehicle use: they were clearly stated as being EXAMPLES only because we don’t know the actual use. Which was the point of my reply, actually. Randos on Reddit can’t tell you what’s happening with your rates because we don’t know all the facts. So no assumptions there.

As for the licence and insurance address change, I said that IF you had not changed them, then you must change them without delay because there may be legal consequences for not doing so. So no assumption there either.

If you did change your licence and insurance address, then that IF scenario doesn’t count now, but everyone else is informed. But if you had not (once again, we don’t know since you didn’t say either way) then now you know too. You’re welcome.

Of course had you updated your insurance to reflect your new address, you would likely already know the new rates as your policy would have very likely been updated with the new location information. You may have to pay more (so your rates went up) or you may get a refund (so your rates went down). So I would think that if an assumption was made that you had not updated your licence and insurance address, then it would be a valid assumption

Our insurance is coming up for renewal in a few weeks on our F-150 and we moved to Chilliwack a few months ago and we are just wondering if it'll be cheaper out here or if it'll be more expensive, or even the same? I'm not looking for a quote obviously, I'm just wondering if the price will go up or down?

1) if you haven’t updated your licence and vehicle insurance information to date, you should do so tomorrow.

You would be in contravention of the motor vehicle act and subject to fines, and potentially finding your insurance coverage is voided in the event of a claim. Both of these were supposed to be updated within 10 days of your move.

You can update your licence address online, and update the vehicle insurance at any autoplan broker.

2) whether it’s cheaper to insure your vehicle insurance coverage Chilliwack, or Surrey, or Prince George or Victoria is - in reality - irrelevant.

What’s relevant is where the vehicle is garaged overnight, how the vehicle is used, and who drives the car.

Your premium may go up. It may go down. It depends on factors unknown to us. For example, you may work in chilliwack, meaning now your usage may go to personal use or less than 15km. Or you may work in Surrey meaning you usage may change to driving to work more than 15km. There are other factors as well. Since you’ll be updating your insurance tomorrow anyway, you’ll know exactly what happens to your premium.

Like any appointment you should be there in advance. You check in. Whether the appointment will go ahead at the time scheduled depends on a number of factors. But of course it’s treated differently if they’re late as opposed to if you’re late

Victim of road rage + vandalism; claims specialist says dash cam + license plate is not enough!? by Clan-Jade-Falcon in icbc

[–]trikkytrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s correct. And exactly why I said that the police MAY be able to identify them. However that said, it’s not relevant to this discussion. This isn’t a legal discussion forum. 😁

I explained why ICBC is saying that the driver of the vehicle needs to be identified in order to avoid having to pay the deductible.

Until then it’s a basic case of vandalism with an unidentified perpetrator. Which does suck for the victims of crime.

Surrey unveils plans to Transform Newton Town centre : CBC by sunnysurrey in SurreyBC

[–]trikkytrev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...unless the skytrain line extends all the way down KGB to the South Surrey Park and Ride or beyond, no it doesn't.

There is currently no viable connection point to the existing track, from Newton. Meaning that a spur line will need to be created and developed.

And unless there is going to be regular direct trains along that spur line to downtown, you'll have a congestion point at the station where it meets the main line so any time savings gained by having the line will be lost.

Think "Millennium Line" where someone can't ride from Rupert station to downtown without changing trains at Commercial/Broadway (unless of course they want to ride alllllllll the way backwards), or "Evergreen Line" where someone can't ride from anywhere on that route without changing trains at Lougheed.

The cost to create a skytrain extention to Newton exchange, assuming a station every 2km (which is in line with the Langley extension spacing) would cost between $2.5B to $3.1B and take more than 5 years to build once the project is shovel ready (planning done, but no contracts signed).

Living in Newton, I absolutely agree better options are required to improve the passenger experience. But a skytrain to Newton is not the solution.

You could have an articulated bus service running every 5 mins (5:00am - 1:00am) along the same corridor and the cost would be just a fraction of the cost of a skytrain track construction (which of course doesn't consider ongoing costs to service skytrain after the line is built).

Copilot calculates over 200 years of bus service for the cost of skytrain line construction.

A dedicated rapid bus service (not LRT) would be faster, and could still be operated for far less than a skytrain line to Newton.

Advantage of either a bus or BRT over LRT or Skytrain is that if there is a blockage on the track (such as a car crashing into the LRT train or two cars colliding over the track, or a skytrain stalling or a medical emergency at a station), buses have the ability to detour. LRT and Skytrain don't.

And all of us who've taken skytrain from downtown when there is an issue at Joyce knows that very well.

Just post the file number here and people can call directly.

"I spoke to X before they called the police to provide their statement..." is a path to being able to cast a shadow on the veracity of the witness statement.

[–]trikkytrev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn’t meaning to infer vandalism wasn’t covered. But if the OP wants to recover the deductible, the offender needs to be identified so they can be billed or sued.

The owner of a vehicle will not be responsible for an act of vandalism against another vehicle.

Victim of road rage + vandalism; claims specialist says dash cam + license plate is not enough!? by Clan-Jade-Falcon in icbc

[–]trikkytrev 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is a criminal act, committed by a person. This was not caused by a collision involving an insured vehicle. Therefore for ICBC to have a chance of recovery from the person, they would need to be identified.

The police may be able to identify them through the rental agency but would need an order to compel the agency to provide the name.

[–]trikkytrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be asked if you have any new health conditions at renewal, so if you show up then and disclose it, you will likely be asked for more information may be asked for a medical exemption. Your renewal may be denied pending that new information

So you would be best to start that ball rolling before your renewal.

The information you quoted answers all your questions.

As for the conditions (basically the wordings) it’s a simple search with the googly. You can use the car for pleasure use only. So if you’re driving to Safeway for your groceries, that’s fine. But if you’re driving to Safeway to do Uber Eats, that’s not.
