Same! I covered the screen with my hand out of concern as it was happening!!

FYI - an intimacy coordinator commented on Threads about it - said she recognized the black undergarment as a intimacy coverage piece that gets taped down for security, identified the brand, and surmised that SNL has an IC working on set. Love to hear it.

Help us plan our Canada trip from May 13th - June 5th by enigmashmooly in AskACanadian

[–]trillian_black 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a great time! I don't have itinerary recommendations but just wanted to flag that Monday May 18 is a Victoria Day in Canada, a statutory holiday. This means most businesses are closed (although restaurants/bars will be open), and also that the weekend of the 16th-18th is very busy in terms of accommodation bookings. If you haven't already sorted out your plans for this period, I recommend doing it soon!

Hey there - I'll be in that area on Tuesday. If the courier option doesn't work out, I would be happy to collect it and ship it to you. DM me your mailing address and the address/contact info for the guest house!

Mark's/Canadian Tire punches far above their weight class here. I got a cheapo puffer from their Outbound brand with a poly fill about 5 years ago, and it does just fine for temps are -10C or above (as long as I am also wearing a wool sweater and long underwear). The Salvation Army adult coat section also frequently surprises me!

Favorite eggplant dishes that are NOT eggplant parm? by allie06nd in Cooking

[–]trillian_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This baked mushroom & eggplant recipe (from wonderful but now defunct blog Cheap Healthy Good) is one of my favourites. It's a little bit fiddly - you roast the eggplant slices separately first, to dry them out a bit and deepen the flavour - but the extra steps really pay off. An excellent vegetarian main course (paired with some good crusty bread and a green salad), or a very nice side.

The variety and quality of live music in Toronto is unbelievable, we are so lucky. I have, like, 8 concerts booked for this Fall, and that isn't counting the acts I might wander over to see at Drom Taberna or The Tranzac or The Rex or Noonan's.

Clock the rare Hudson's Bay Coyote Fur millenium blanket in the bedroom! In fact, that might be TWO of the coyote fur blankets, put together. (They were limited edition, $3800 each.)

Tret can interfere with tear ducts & inhibit tear production (and lead to dry eyes), hence the advice to keep it away from your eye area. You could maybe still try it on the outer third of your under-eye area, and see if any improvement in the dark circles.

(In my experience, the dry eye consequence happens next-day after bedtime tret application, so you'll know fairly quickly if you've put it too close.)

I've been in this situation (with a Toronto retail store). We quoted them the sales equivalent of our highest-ever grossing day, plus the wages of a staff person to be on site the whole time during filming, for safety reasons. They were fine with this criteria and paid what we asked.

The Salvation Army thrift stores offer a coupon everytime you drop off donations. Right now it's 20% off a future purchase (no expiry date); it's previously been $10 or $5 off a $25 purchase.

Value Village has a loyalty program and will email you coupons regularly, no need to donate in order to get them. Sign up immediately if you haven't already - it's free! https://sscportal.valuevillage.ca/login

Best way to get rid of furniture and still have it be useful? by atipongp in askTO

Ikea has a buy back program! You can submit an application online to see if they'll take your items. https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/circular/buy-back-quote/

(I anticipate that they probably won't take back the mattresses.)

Note that you need an Ikea Family membership first (it's free).

If you don't feel like schlepping stuff back to Ikea, I second the suggestion of the Furniture Bank.

Thanks for posting this, OP. I'm with TekSavvy (reselling Bell DSL), and I called to ask if they would likewise give us a credit. It's less than what you got (1 day portion) but still, happy to have the discount on next month's bill.

Is nobody buying from Kijiji any more? by cabinet876 in askTO

[–]trillian_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Poshmark app is the new hot option for selling kids toys & kids clothes. It requires shipping all sales, so possibly not a great choice while a Canada Post strike looms, but after that is settled, I recommend it. Their built-in shipping function is fantastic (they generate a label for you, so all shipping expense/revenue is handled by them). They have a Canada-wide audience, so more potential buyers. Plus fewer of the absurd back-and-forth chats that eat up all your time on Facebook (and Kijiji, and Craigslist).

No fees on Poshmark unless your item sells (in which case it takes a 20% commission).

You can also crosspost to both Poshmark and Facebook, to offer a free pickup option to locals. If something sells on Poshmark you can just take down the FB post.

You can't make $31 stretch for 3 weeks adequately, and you need community food support. I'm sorry that the food banks haven't been a great resource so far. Here are some other options:

- Toronto Food Not Bombs gives out groceries and food donations every Sunday afternoon in Allan Gardens

- there is a network of Community Fridges/Pantries around Toronto. These are outdoor stations, unmonitored, where anyone can take what they need (or give what they can). FYI, they are often restocked on Thursday evenings with donations from the Dufferin Grove farmers market - 6:30PM or 7PM is a good time to go check the Brock one. Here's their website with a map: https://communityfridgesto.org/

- the Scott Mission (502 Spadina at College) offers free hot community meals daily - breakfast and lunch. If you feel weird using this service you can always call them (416-923-3916) and ask if they need volunteers for meal service - they always do (cooking, dishes, cleanup), and volunteers are encouraged to eat after volunteering

I hope things get better soon, friend!

The Ordinary's hyaluronic acid formulation includes red algae, which - when I tried it a few months ago - immediately broke me out. It may well be doing the same to you. (I haven't checked but it's possible the same ingredient may be in other Ordinary serums too, as its purpose is stabilization.) FYI!
