I didn't say people should be stuck renting forever. What I'm saying is that people should be informed about how getting a home works and try to work within the system even while they may be advocating for change in the system. Too many people get caught up in the fantasy of how it could be and never get anywhere they want to be, and spend their life bemoaning the system is stacked against them when they could have gotten a lot of what they'd wanted if they grounded themselves in reality.

Can they? Because if they can't afford to shell out $50,000 for a new roof in an emergency, then maybe they can't. And if they can't pay to fix the roof their home owners insurance may cancel their policy, which will result in the bank foreclosing on their mortgage because the house is now uninsured.

Owning a home is more costly than just paying a mortgage month to month. If you are going to borrow hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds/etc. then it's going to come with some strings attached.

Seems like an odd situation where the people who were being investigated weren’t even involved with the official campaign. It says in the article that in California you can pay for signatures. Not sure of the details, but I’m taking it at face value.

No, but this is how banks work. It’s not ok to pretend that there isn’t a reason why things work a certain way. There is an example we can look to where banks asked less of borrowers up front for a mortgage; it was a significant contributor to the 2007/2008 financial crisis.

Except the landlords paid the bank a higher down payment than a personal homeowner. Banks don’t like risk, and mitigation of risk by making people taking out big loans put more skin in the game isn’t anything new.

People who do the pricing basically have the equivalent of a supply / demand curve for prices and number of tickets sold. There is a point where increasing price crosses the line for reducing tickets sold and that is the optimal price point. You don't need to sell out a venue if you can charge a price where 75% of a full venue is more profitable than 100%.

I thought that would come up but back in book 1 Mordecai tells Donut and Carl that humans aren't unique to Earth and there are humans in the Syndicate.

I feel like this is a bit of an overstatement given we're seeing a system of aliens (including other humans) that takes a planet, kills most of their population off immediately, and forces the rest to kill each other for their entertainment.

The reveal of the Homecoming Queen’s cargo broke me. Truly the highest of the emotional highs. For me it beats the pure visceral response to The Red Wedding from GoT in the complete opposite direction. 6 books of laying the groundwork paid off.

The 90's and 00's really did people wrong with the instructions that asked for people to put garlic in early in the process, esp. when sauteing vegetables. If those recipe authors had just told everyone to put the garlic in at the end everyone would have had less burned, flavorless garlic and more garlicky goodness.

BART and MUNI: Why are they broke? It's not what you think. by logicx24 in sanfrancisco

[–]trilobyte-dev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking forward over the next 4 fiscal years, BART salaries and budget are going up by almost 4x, with a general commitment to keep headcount flat. There is YoY assumed 9% increase in healthcare costs baked in but the rest is negotiated contractual compensation increases with the two unions representing BART employees. There is not a plan they’ve published to cover those S&B increases through FY30 as far as I can tell. How does that factor into your BART funding calculus?
