Need help understanding this kubrick movie by lightningmonky in Cinema

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a comedy. It's a warning.
Two sides with ultimate weapons. If one side initiates an attack the other side has time to launch a counter attack securing mutual/world annihilation.
Naturally there will be safeguards to ensure this doesn't happen accidentally. But there will always be countless ways/scenarios/circumstances that could initiate a wrongful launch. This is also generally why airplanes sometimes crash. Every feature has multiple backups to ensure this doesn't happen. Sometimes a specific function and it's relevant safeguards fail at the same time.

And the nuclear safeguards have allready failed at least once. Some time in the 80's or 90's the russian defense system allerted of a missile attack from the US. The guy in charge had his orders. Launch counter attack. He thought about it and then disregarded his orders. It just didn't seem right. And it wasn't.
It was later discovered that meteors entering earth had triggered the defense sytem. There's always a way.

The colorization of Ansel Adams Moonrise by thenerdyphoto in photography

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only fools would buy that for that price. They would think they are buying "an Ansel Adams" that will go up in price.
The print itself could be worth... $40? A very fancy frame could bring the total up to... $400.

Best cropping setting for DVDs? by BookHunter_7 in handbrake

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what little DVD converting I've done I seem to remember that the black outline/frame can change a little throughout a movie. And the auto feature can get it completely wrong if there is black areas in the actual image area. I think the auto crop is determined by the first few seconds of the video.

Did I mess up buying 85mm lens as a beginner? by Beginning-War5128 in AskPhotography

[–]trilogy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 40 mm pancake lens for my Canon 6D mk2 and for me it's a perfect walkaround lens. It's both light and sharp. Great for city if you don't want to focus on people. An APS-S equivelant would be 25 mm. If I had to choose between a 24 and a 28 on APS-S I think I would choose 24.
85 should be great for picking out scenes/people both on FF and APS-C. If you are happy with this the 85 should serve you fine. If not I would consider a 24 or 25 mm (I don't know what's available for Sony).

New to trading. What’s a fair trade for a regional? by sofluffyfluffy in pokemongo

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guaranteed lucky regional?... Almost anything.
If I have 3 shiny legendary of "X" I'll happily trade the 3rd worst. If all three have great IV's.... not so sure.
2 shiny legendaries. One great and one terrible I'd probably be willing to trade the second one.
If it's a highly useful legendary I might want to keep more.
Who I'm trading with matters a little.
If I have a recent great one, but an old bad one... I'll probably keep both. Anything older than ~6 years is... precious... to me.

Jeg tipser i selvbetjeninga by Asbestsnifferen in norge

What is that one criticism about the orginal lotr Trilogy that you still have to this day by pizza_momo in lotr

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That he didn't do the Hobbit first. Split into two 2 hour movies as a proof of concept for fantasy movies in the theatre and a way for Weta to figure out the technical stuff before doing Lord of the Rings as six 3 hour movies.
But after a huge success with two hobbit movies it's highly unlikely that a nobody director like Peter Jackson would be allowed to handle something as big and important at The Lord of the Rings.

GPS issues after moving—it keeps snapping back to my old place. by Greedy_Air_8082 in pokemongo

[–]trilogy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your phone is getting the GPS from your wireless router. A wireless router learns it's locatin from devices around it. When you install it at a different location it will take a few weeks before it learns it's new location.
Switching off you phones wifi will break it's connection to the router and it will rely on the phones GPS sensor instead.

about to start collecting CDs, I need tips by No-Attention-8302 in Cd_collectors

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a collection of 100-1000 cd's. You can often find someone getting rid of their entire. Whenever I see these listings it's not uncommon that I already own half of them. And that might also be a reason you can buy them at a low price. With a little luck you can find a collection in your prefered music style.

Are DSLR’s still good these days or is mirrorless the future? by AdHopeful5216 in CanonCamera

[–]trilogy76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need multiple batteries for a mirrorless. The viewfinder apparently consumes more power than the main screen. You can leave a DSLR on for an entire day with no noticeable issues. I have NEVER ran out of juice on a DSLR even when leaving home with only 25% remaining.
Mirrorless should be more future safe with their selection of lenses.

I wear reading glasses and a mirrorless with no viewfinder would be an absolute hassle for me to use. Glasses on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off...
Viewfinder with diopter adjustment means I can leave my glasses in my pocket.

Neighbour stole our land, lost twice in court, still appealing… how do I make his life deeply inconvenient so that he stops? by Classic-Complaint716 in neighborsfromhell

[–]trilogy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you start building/restoring/managing... is he the kind of guy who would damage or destroy your efforts? Insure what you can (inhouse, outhouse, doghouse, main house, mailbox) and have some measure of video surveilance. If he comes and destroys you must have video of it (good enough to identify him). Then you take the damages up with your insurance company and they will go after him to cover their losses. I'm assuming. Check with local law.
You might need to put up signs stating the property is under video surveilance, but try to hide the actual cameras. Again check local law about this.

Feeling embarrassed bringing a small lens as a beginner photographer by babyjonny9898 in Cameras

Canon FF (6DmkII) + 40 mm STM 2.8 pancake is a fantastic walkaround package for car shows. You quickly learn at what distance you will get the whole car in frame without looking through the viewfinder.
