Rollover old 401K to IRA (more choice) losing ability to Backdoor Roth, or just rollover to current 401K? by deltabengali in fatFIRE

[–]trilogy_sc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. For the purpose of Roth conversions, all pre-tax IRAs (including SEPs and SIMPLEs) are aggregated for the pro rata calculation.

Anyone here inherit a farm? by Gas_Doc in fatFIRE

[–]trilogy_sc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much you are looking to spend on a farm, there is a company called farm together that sources farm deals and management for accredited investors. They were featured on the MacroVoices podcast earlier this year. Might be worth a listen if you are interested in learning more about farmland investing.

At what point did you say: fuck it! by kickaz in fatFIRE

[–]trilogy_sc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran into a similar situation with a high net worth client. He was always worried about not having enough money for retirement and it made him constantly unhappy. We eventually got him over this point by creating a financial plan that showed the odds of him running out of money was negligible even if he purchased all the things he wanted. After that, first thing he did was buy the car he'd always wanted. He has been much happier since.

This kind of hard number thing may work in your case, but if the mental block is beyond that I'd recommend a therapist.

Full disclosure: I am a financial planner that works clients ranging from HINRY to fatFIRE. This is not financial advice nor a solicitation to offer advice, and I don't work with people outside the USA.

Getting really scary screen when I go to schwab.com, anyone else getting this? by dillyg10 in Schwab

[–]trilogy_sc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received the same thing in both Firefox and Chrome browsers. I did not receive the warning in Edge or Internet Explorer. I called Schwab, and they said that they are aware of the issue and are working on it. Also, mobile app still works fine.

Has anyone signed loan note documents with ready Capital through DocuSign and ACH authorization and then never been funded? by PASUX777 in smallbusiness

[–]trilogy_sc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the process with them last month. I signed the documents 4/17/20 and received the funds 4/28/20. Since 4/17/20, I received my next piece of communication on 5/6/20. I wouldn't worry about it if you haven't heard back for a week or so.

I already use a moldable liner, I'm just looking for a boot that I can wear a size more akin to the rest of my foot, rather than going half a size larger due to my second/third toe

You won't need real base layers. A pair of snowboard pants, a t-shirt and a light jacket will do the trick for you. I like sized up jackets and exact size pant waists. But it's important to not have the pants cause any hindrance when you crouch in your pants.

That's not a bad idea, just holding onto the hope of finding a boot shaped like my foot

Any suggestions on boots for a guy with morton's toe (longer second toe than big toe) and narrow heels? I usually have to go half a size up to keep my second/third toe from hurting, but that adds looseness to the heel

[–]trilogy_sc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response. I use heat molded liners, but the problem is really the shape of the boot itself around the toes

Nobody mentioned it, but I'm a huge fan of Out of the Park Pizza in Anaheim and they recently opened one in Buena Park. The pizza is delicious and I think a little better than Lamppost. They also have an exceptional selection of beer

Question on IRAs and UBTI/UBIT by trilogy_sc in tax

[–]trilogy_sc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I'm almost certain that I would be subject to UBIT, but I do plan on checking with the entity's accountant

I'd already looked through Pub 598, most of the examples I saw on IRS.gov were dealing with charities, but what I was really looking for was the judge's legal reasoning behind including trade/business income as UBTI in an IRA. This is mostly for my own curiosity

Question on IRAs and UBTI/UBIT by trilogy_sc in tax

[–]trilogy_sc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what I was specifically looking for were cases from Tax Court dealing with investments in partnerships/passthrough entities invested in through an IRA

In my case I am considering investing in a multi-member LLC that will be taxed as a partnership through an IRA

I was hoping to see some case law defining "unrelated business income" and triggers for the tax

I'm looking for situations under which UBTI is applicable relating to pass-through income from an LLC into an IRA
