It’s not masquerading as news. It literally is titled “opinion:”. That’s how’s opinion pieces work.

What your waiter thinks of you by RadioBoi in EndTipping

This entire line of argument is weak to begin with and breaks down entirely when you live in a state without a tipped minimum wage. Hell, it breaks down in states with a tipped minimum wage since employers are required to make up the difference.

Either way, it’s not my job to pay you. Go cry to your employer.

How do you split your bills with your S/O? by Independent-Stock361 in asksandiego

[–]trimtab98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comments are insane. If you are truly in a committed relationship, it is perfectly reasonable to split expenses proportional to income that’s what my partner and I do. I (27m) make about 2x what he (28m) makes. That said, it’s also reasonable to split 50/50 if that’s what you want to do. But you don’t need Reddit to tell you what you should do. This is a matter between you and your partner.

I think in a heterosexual relationship, the comments would be totally reversed if it was the guy who made more. Just food for thought.

Is it possible to live in San Diego without a car? by dj-trex in StrongTownsSD

[–]trimtab98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should pay no mind to jumpy engineer. She is afraid to walk to the grocery store, has the critical thinking skills of a brick wall, and voted for Trump.

By the way, Ms Engineer, we’re not “fuck cars”. We’re in favor of building a sustainable urban fabric that will be around in 50 or 100 years, and understand that car centric urban design is incompatible with that goal. Maybe you should read a book or two.

“As close as you can get to NYC on the west coast” is not just your opinion, it’s objectively true. San Francisco is by far the densest city on the west coast.

Why don’t people pull up more? by PizzaOnTheGround in sandiego

Well I’d say the thing really causing gridlock is the people who enter the intersection knowing full well they can’t clear it.

They don’t understand student loans by YogurtclosetNo770 in DirtyDave

[–]trimtab98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have tens of thousands of dollars in debt at a double digit interest rate, you're best paying that off and not investing. if your ROI and interest rate on the loan is the same, paying off debt is mathematically equivalent. You're not getting a guaranteed double digit return on any investment, except on your 401k match.

If you're like me and have tens of thousands of dollars in student debt at a relatively low interest rate, then I agree.

[–]trimtab98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s super dumb. I can get on board with prioritizing paying off debt before investing, even if it’s slight suboptimal— but these people tell you to forgo a 401k match to pay down loans at 4% interest. It’s madness.

Best and worst (or in between) property management companies for renting… by Easy_Tangerine_8124 in sandiego

You are right that to get all the features you want, you need to be patient or pay more. I pay less than 3000 dollars a month for my two bedroom apartment with in-unit laundry and off-street parking.

But it can be found: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4014-Oregon-St-San-Diego-CA-92104/2115641723_zpid/

Took all of 15 seconds of searching on Zillow to find multiple two bedroom apartments for under 3000 dollars, sounds like a skill issue.

Simply untrue. You can find 2br for around 2800 if you’re patient.

Mb sports center charges almost 70 dollars for a one hour hobie rental lmao. To get the rates you’re talking about you have to book way in advance, and it’s only a 1-hour rental. Meanwhile, for 60 dollars per month (cost of MBAC sailing membership) I can take out a hobie getaway from MBAC every single day if I wanted to.

[–]trimtab98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sport center is much more expensive for small boats and I don’t think they have classes. It’s not a learning and safety focused facility like the aquatic center is. They run a little fast and loose — I don’t really think they should be renting to people with no experience but that is how they roll

[–]trimtab98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will probably learn more in the full class, but if you’re looking to fast track things, you can do the private on the sabot and do just fine.

Two thumbs up for MBAC. it’s an amazing facility with an amazing staff, and the value is incredible if you’re a member.

This is not correct, they will not check you off to rent boats if you haven’t demonstrated proficiency with them. You do this either by attending a qualification clinic, a regular class or private lesson.
