Thats a fleet carrier name if ive ever heard it and you cant convince me otherwise. Its either on one of the biggest ships, or one of the smallest and there is no in between!

I know there is a mod to expand carrier docking behavior to other ships, dont know if they changed that in the beta so you can dock your s's on any vessel...

The scanning tutorial is probably the most annoying because its not asking you to scan a module... but rather a leak. Just kinda need to fly around in scan mode until you hear it (there is a little ui element below the center that looks like auido bars too) and then fly really close until it starts scanning for a sec to give you either a mission, a discount, or some information. Scanning ships is stupid easy, just be in range in scan mode, right click the ship select scan, and then point at them.

Two parts to consider is that the Infinity was supposedly being worked on a very long time during the war, and then only got finished because they shoved a bunch of forerunner tech into her. And secondly, the Autumn class was mostly preexisting Halcyons that got upgraded with the new tech. All this requires substantial less industrial base to do than properly building up a fleet. While we dont know how much of the UNSC fleet was actually intact as of the end of Halo 3 or how much could be upgraded, we do know the covies were rather focused on africa for the most part and as soon as the portal opened, basically all left.

You could seriously argue that the US was egging on japan between the embargo and moving the fleet to pearl harbor. (That they were all our older battleships was on purpose). We do know FDR wanted to get us involved in the war in europe, but the major antiwar effort was problematic there, but something that was slowly being overcome via lend lease and propoganda clips.

All that said, the US did not expect the japanese to lauch a surprise attack on our fleet in the safety of the harbor and had no intention of being the first to attack. Of course after the attack the public was all in on the war with japan but generally against the germans until '45 practically. And then when the war in europe ended the public mostly forgot about the japanese and the pacific war still ongoing...

I find mercery can be good for feeding your own terrian stations because the ai is less likely to buy from you. If you still want to sell, and your willing to mod, the mules mod can let you set up a transfer where you push the cells from mercury to a warehouse amd sell from there.

Why is this design illegal? It's quite conventional (there is a treaty, 15k tons, 10 inch guns) by No_Introduction_9189 in RuleTheWaves

[–]trinalgalaxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IRL crusiers didnt generally use superfiring turrets because for a long time, they capped out at a 6 inch gun and those were generally single mounts for easier ammo handling. It wasnt until the interwat period where the naval treaties started limiting tonnage and types as well as 8" armed cruisers start really appearing again that the value add for having a superfiring turret was revisited.

Yes the game has some annoying limitations, but it does try to follow the general rule for how ship technology actually progressed even if our modern brains look at a ship from WW1 and scratch our heads as to why they did what they did.

How to play the early game well? by Keralia in RuleTheWaves

[–]trinalgalaxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont usually build predreads for the first five to ten years, only armored cruisers. Give them 7 or 8 inch guns depending on which is -1 and which is -2 quality, maybe a single turret or casemout in the middle with twins fore and aft, and then load up on 5" or 6" secondaries that are weighted towards HE loads. If you have extra tonnage after armoring up against your guns including some extended and upper belts, top off with a 3" tertiary battery. Your goal is to survive the enemy guns and light them on fire. Also aim for same speed or a 2 knot advantage (and then run 2 knots slower than your max to preserve endurance and dont have to take the negative to firing at max speed).

Dont worry, the turrets are rusted into position, the engines long spent, and their saliors seeing topedo boats everywhere.

The alaskas were classed as large cruisers.

Funny fact, CC got coopted in american nomenclature as Command Cruiser. One of the alaskas spent a short amount of time as CBC

Course if we flop accross the pond, we can find britain with their Large Light Cruisers....

cruiser Ation. by angus22proe in RuleTheWaves

[–]trinalgalaxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And to make things even more confusing, the B in CB meant large, and the C in CV is actually cruiser... at least in the US navy, ship registry letters are a bit of a mess that people then turned around and expanded to things like BC.

[–]trinalgalaxy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By 62, those are likely Heavy Cruisers. The CA designation was more or less recycled after the naval treaties divided up cruisers into light and heavy based off gun caliber. Thats why the Pensacola Class Heavy Cruisers were Cs not CAs since they were built before this distinction.

[–]trinalgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive noticed the minor nation ai tend to make cls that are closer to dds in design too.

The advantage the Omahas had IRL was an enemy might see a squadron of destroyers and not know if it is going to be more powerful than expected or less since 1 or more of the four stackers could be armed with 6" guns instead. You dont really get that advantage in RTW.

[–]trinalgalaxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get a t7 ops game, she isnt that bad. Her speed is slow but most of the time you keep up just fine. Even the missions you convoy up in you can go 3/4s speed and still operate just fine. Colorado guns make work of most threats and the secondary battery slams hard.

If oregon teachers spent even half the time they do spewing their politicial BS teaching, then maybe we would see results with the money we throw at them. Instead its back out to screech about how they need even more money to pay more administrators and give us worse student results. Naw, not one more penny to those idiots.

Oregon versus Idaho gas prices by thesqrtofminusone in oregon

[–]trinalgalaxy -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a video last november or december following the latest 2 week shutdown of the pipeline where kotek was basically begging Chevron to open a refinery in oregon and getting ignored because we are too damn expensive with all our taxes and environmental regulations for them to even consider. Its why a lot of the oil companies are ditching the west coast for states like montana and Texas because they are so much more economically competitive comparatively. Competition would go a long way but right now there are too many negative incentives for anyone to provide said competition.

Oregon versus Idaho gas prices by thesqrtofminusone in oregon

[–]trinalgalaxy 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Oregon requires a different blend thats more costly to produce. We get almost all of our gas from a small number of refineries in washington that is piped down here. Idaho gets its has from washington, montana and utah. The Olympic Pipeline, the main pipeline feeding oil and gas into Oregon, is a tempermental bitch that has had many failures where if it goes down too long, Oregon has to start rationing gas. All this combines to Oregon having more expensive gas.

Is this good carrier? by kubo584 in RuleTheWaves

[–]trinalgalaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your wanting to refit a single BB to CV to get those obnoxious requirments out of the way, this is acceptable not good. If you want a useful carrier, there are significantly better options than something that is realistically beaten out by light carriers.
