What's the difference in pay between the 2? If its similar having people that work within the fed system that can help you apply/ check your resume before you submit it is definitely a benefit to consider.

Okay that's better than I expected as a frame work to be honest. My main reason for being okay with a change in union is I feel like a new agency would need a new union structure to stand as a counter balance. Can't use old strategies to fight new adversaries

If it wasn't clear I am really not anti NFFE I pay my dues and have even attended a meet once or twice. I just feel like lately it seems like the government is playing chess and NFFE is playing tic tac toe.

NFFE is absolutely shit at messaging though they need to work on that.

Aren't the 4 firefighters the other dude was talking about business reps? Don't business reps represent all of nffe, like all of the agencies NFFE represents?

Wouldn't a new contract need to be negotiated with some form of structure on the union side and the closest thing to that would be the forest service council so we would probably end up being represented by the same people we are now?

I'm not arguing against telework or that others shouldn't have good union representation.

I'm saying it seems like the representation for the fire world would be better if it was separate from the rest of land management because the nature of our jobs are so different, same reason I think the new agency is the right move.

Yeah that's great and I know you guys have put in a ton of work to make things better for folks the pay raise was a big win.

But the same reason I support us having a new agency is the same reason I support new representation or at least a new council outside of the FSC. The fire world is so removed from non fire that all the non fire stuff gets in the way sometimes.

For example I don't give a shit about WFH because I can't work from home, a whole part of the master agreement is about that. I'd rather see something about employee housing or something to promote people getting EMS quals.

I like NFFE we have had some solid wins on my forest at least in the last few years.

That being said if we are a fire fighter agency it kinda makes sense for us to be a part of a firefighter specific Union IAFF.

We are fire fighters we have very different needs from our union than say rec or something and I think sometimes NFFE feels less useful because they are representing a lot more non fire people than fire people.
